Taking Ken's interpretation of MI law as accurate, all this proves is that clearly legally and clearly stupid aren't mutually exclusive.

Yep. Done said it twce. :)  We always believed that Voldemort was plenty stupid. But, I believe these Michigan boys are right up there with him. When it comes to almost getting shot, they smoked him.

Just like with the controversy  over the presidents travel ban, the issue with what these guys did is ...was it legal (and were they justly arrested).  The police act outside the law at times and I just want the good officers to be just in the application of the law, not to jam people up for lawful conduct and actions. I have great respect for those officers that do their job within the constraints placed upon them by our constitution, they themselves are not ABOVE the law.

This scenario is not as black & white as you've painted it. The officers' duty to protect and defend themselves overrides the rights of these 2 idiots' attention-seeking experiment. This isn't the first time one law or right conflicts with another. I'd say the officers followed their training perfectly by securing the scene to make sure everyone is safe first.

Thanks BigK for addressing the issue with your honest point of view, one which I can agree with. Do you think these 2 should be charged with a crime and what crime do you believe they committed? I know info is limited at this point but we seem to like to speculate here.

I will say it again too, all I am trying to do here is have a discussion on what they did and how it was handled, not a "what idiots" pile on fest. That's too easy.

As it is, there is history in Detroit where a man walked into a precinct and opened fire. No officers were injured I don't believe but the perp did get his wish of suicide by cop.

Speculate and arm chair quarterback is what we do. I’m usually hesitant to start making allegations when we don’t have all the info; but I don’t think we are lacking much here. No one was shot or killed so I doubt we will hear much more about it until someone posts the outcome of their charges on a gun forum. Not many will really care though because not many of us would be in that situation.

The info is not limited; the reckless perps supplied us with evidence of how they were dressed and what they were carrying. They also supplied us with the audio of the Officers reaction and them being arrested. One was charged with breach of peace, masks/disguises while parading, and failure to cooperate during booking proceedings. The other was charged with charged with breach of peace, failure to obey police officer’s direction or order, and resisting an officer’s demands. I’m sure they will get their day in court to answer the charges and explain why they did something so reckless.

They were idiots; it’s the overwhelming conclusion held most. You are correct though that determination is an easy one to make.
