Would you trade a hipoint 9mm carbine with laser and foregrip for a 1950's model savage 110 bolt action 30-06? It has a scope and open sights. I know nothing about the savage rifles of that era.

There is a lot of variables.

What condition is the Savage? What kind of scope? What model 110 is it?

Here are the Model 110 pages from the 2010 Standard Catalog of Firearms. Obviously prices have changed some.

From my point of view,  I would. You can always buy a new Hi Point later. A 1950's rifle may not land at your door every day. I am a fan of old guns though. Just be sure to check function and condition.

That is something we should get some of the other guys and gals to weigh in on. I am afraid I do not have hands on with either. I am guessing either would be a plus for you.

Funny thing, I was just looking at a a 760 that someone had posted somewhere from a different state.

Personaly I would take the Remington. The 760 is the hight of the non auto fast follow up shot rifles. They are durable to the point where they will put up with a lot of internal dirt. The only thing to look for on the Rem is make sure the extractor is in good working order. Rusty/sticky chambers will raise hell with the extractors by loosening up their rivet. If they eject nice and clean on firing, they are more than likely OK. The only old 110 that I would partly consider would be a detachable clip feed. Otherwise they are not bad but the 760 is a kick a** hunting rig. And you cant go wrong with the 06 cal.
