*I purposely did not put this in hunting, I do not hunt*

I want to get into shooting a bow and arrow this spring. I have been looking at straight and recurve bows online. Compound bows offer nothing to me.

Anyone like shooting recurve bows? Got any direction to point me in?

I used to shoot a recurve years ago.I still have it but I bet there is no way in hell I could pull it back now.It has a 68 lb draw weight and I am nowhere near as strong as I used to be.You will have to shoot instinctivly or in other words burn a mental hole in the spot you want to hit.I never shot a long bow but heard they are easier to shoot than a recurve. You can spend a lot of money on either one as the custom bows are pricey.I would suggest like in any thing else new start an inexpensive model to see if you like it first.A good web page to look at would be www.tradgang.com

I have great interest in bows although I have never really had much hands on, I found this on you tube some time ago I thought it was a world of information especially when he starts talking about non center shot bows vs. center shot & arrow rigidity. I think I would prefer a compund although not for hunting.

I shoot a 45# Bear Kodiak Magnum. I picked it up for 80 bucks off of ebay.

It's been extremely fun to shoot. Either going out to put a few in the target or hunting a little bit with it. Very fun.

Edit: Dunno how far Buena vista is from Triune but you are more than welcome to come out and shoot mine all you want to see of you like it.

I love to bow shoot. I like my compound best but the recurve is fun as well.

The best deals I have found on bows have been in pawn shops almost dead in between hunting season closing and opening.

If you get a recurve and the string is broke. Strings are dirt cheap. Like under $10.00, maybe under $5.00 and pull it back and string it. Even a used one with a string on it I would replace the string.

Arrows are the expensive part. I got a nice old Bear #50 recurve for $12.50 and the string at a local pawn shop.

But look for cracking or anything that looks odd or the tips broken.

Really really helps if you can find someone that knows how to shoot and hang out and talk bows a bit and shoot some.

Really neat cause about 25 yards anywhere with a decent backstop and you have a range.

Old couch pillows are awesome for said backstop if they are foam and free, then cover them with a cheap tarp from Big Lots and get a target. Couch pillows stop a field tip arrow cold.

Love the bows.I don't hunt either but it sure is fun to shoot stuff with a bow.

I have a dominant left eye so my bow has a left hand riser. That's another thing,If you are cross dominant you will need to get a bow for that eye.Other words right handed but left eye dominant you will need a left hand bow. Also beware when buying used recurves that the limbs are not twisted, lot of people twist them when stringing them improperly.A recurve stringer is cheap and makes the job a lot easier to do.
