I just heard about Tennessee Firearms Association. Was surprised that I had  missed knowing about them.

What's the opinion on what they do?

Is it worth joining?

You'll hear about as much criticism about TSA as NRA here, but IMNSHO, it's absolutely worth joining and keeping up with yearly renewals.

I have been a member for years. They do really well at pushing the pro-gun rights agenda in the legislative arena.

I think they do a good job at fighting and lobbying for 2A rights. You may not agree with every single viewpoint they offer, but it's important to have this group watching out for us on the state level. The $35 annual fee is money well spent. Don't assume TN will always have pro gun bills passed. Over time more and more anti gunners will try to jam through legislation little by little. Important to stay in front of the gun rights issues and TFA does a good job.

Do they actually care about 2nd Amendment rights or just basic handguns and rifles?

Doesn't answer anything.  They can put whatever they want on their site and it doesn't mean a thing.  Just as the NRA's primary function is to make money, I suspect the same of TFA.  They exist to line their own pockets.

Then don't join, or maybe do some due diligence. They have contact info listed.

Considering what John Harris, the founder of TFA, says and does, they are very much about full 2d Amendment rights. They are currently pushing for constitutional carry and a lawsuit against knoxville over the parks law. So yeah.

Thanks for the opinions, I think I will join. I was active in the state wide group back in NY, not that it did much good but we tried. We actually was keeping the status quo for all but NY City till the Governor pushed his latest through in the middle of the night with no time for anyone to read what they were passing. Feel I should do the same here to be sure we don't go the way NY did so many years ago.

I have really enjoyed living in America again after to long in NY. Grew up in Ohio and didn't know what we had there till I moved. My first boss was actually relieved when I showed up the first day. He had forgot to warn me about NY gun laws (this was way back in 69) and knowing I was coming from Ohio thought I might be driving out with a car load. Apparently they had a new employee detained the year before moving in from the midwest with a back seat full of guns.

I know the feeling as I'm from Northeast as well (MA). It's important to support these local groups. People down this way often forget or maybe think that anti gun legislation won't happen here, and that kind of complacency is dangerous. I think, IMO, TN is fairly safe for a while, but there are lawmakers and activists in every state trying to limit our RKBA. Really important to stay out in front of it, and TFA is our voice on that front.

It's worth the $35 to join and support their efforts until someone proves otherwise.  You'll pay more for two boxes of carry ammo than you will to pay your annual dues with them.  Which reminds me that I need to renew.

I think they do a good job lobbying when you consider the resources they have and how the Republican leadership isn't anywhere near pro gun as they campaign on. TFA also has a great finger on the pulse of the legislature in regards to pending legislation assumed well.

I was highly put off when my membership info was given to another political issue organization not related to guns and I started getting pinged by them. They just assumed that all gun owners are conservative across the board I suppose.

What happened here? Because up until this point I was considering throwing some annual dues at them. I'm really not keen on being bugged by other political folks.

I just looked it up and I was wrong about TFA giving my info, so my bad on that. It was through their emails, but it was asking for people to attend a legislative rally to fight Insure Tennessee back when it was being debated two years ago. They framed it as "harm to your constitutional rights and protections" and that they were "locking arms" with other organizations to fight against the Medicaid expansion.

So, not as bad as I mistakenly posted, but still, it irked me.

Ok. That's mildy annoying, but not unforgivable. Appreciate you verifying the details.
