9mm 1911

I've consolidated most of my calibers and got rid of all my 1911s and while I like my glocks they just don't fit my hands like a 1911 does. I want to stay with 9mm and I'd like to get another 1911. I've looked online at the EMP but from what I've read, due to the composite frame(?) you can't shoot +Ps thru them. Also, I wonder if the smaller frame will fit my hands?

What other 9mm 1911 options are out there? I know there is costume shop stuff in the $2k plus range but that's out of my league right now.

I'm in the dreaming stages right now, due to unexpected medical bills.

Colt, Springfield, Rock Island, etal make offerings in 9mm below the $1k price point.  Personally, I would look at the Springfield Range Officer.

I have not had any issues with my Kimber 9mm's or Springfield EMP. I personally like the pro size best. The EMP is just big enough for me to get a full grip but I wish it had a little checkering on the front strap.

The EMP does not have a composite frame.  It's aluminum alloy.  I'm not aware of any restriction on +P ammo, although I don't know why you would want to make that a habit anyway.  The difference in frame size is not that dramatic.  I like the EMP for a carry gun, but I really enjoy shooting my 9mm Range Officer Champion.

Ruger has one.

Been keeping that one in the back of my mind since it came out.

I've owned a Dan Wesson Pointman 9 and a couple of Rock Islands that shot 9mm.  One RIA was a 9mm the other was a .38Super which I installed a 9mm barrel.  Because the RIA 9mms work so well at the price point they come in at I would look no further unless you want one of the "mini" 1911 alloy 9mms.  I found no appreciable functional difference between the >$1K DW PM9 and the RIAs.

I have a 1911 9mm in the Rock Island flavor and it's a terrific pistol. I'd really like to add another one. Maybe the Springer Champion in 9.

I hope I'm not wrong here, but the RO 9 is pretty small from what I remember of it. Similar to the Browning 380 1911.

I always hear people telling how great the Colt is in 9, but never had my hands on one, so I don't know.

If money weren't the problem, I think I'd look at one of the Sig 1911 in 9. I've had several Sig 1911s in 45, and they've all been great. so that might be my first, or second choice.

But considering how little I have in the RIA, and how well it handles and shoots...maybe another one of them.

And speaking of how well it functions, my thanks to Sam Hoster in Gallatin for the little tweaks he did on it for me.

The standard Range Officer is a full size 5"  1911.  The RO Champion is a 4" barrel with full size frame, and the RO Compact is a 4" barrel with an Officer size frame (shorter handgrip).

It's not a scaled down version like the Browning.

I've got the Rock Island "ROCK" Ultra FS in 9mm.  I use it for IDPA in ESP class.  Through 2500 rounds it hasn't skipped a beat.  Best of all, it's very reasonably priced.

Well, I certainly had that wrong. lol But I did handle one and it sure felt smaller to me.

I know the thread is old......

I will put any of my RIA's up against any other 1911's I have, for reliability and accuracy [that's after you get ALL the shipping oil off them]

How about Colt's new Competition? Under 1k I was thinking about that as the next toy.

I've got a Kimber Pro in 9mm. If I was in the market for a full size 1911 9mm that's the one I'd get.
