M&P 2.0

Picked up one of the 2.0 M&Ps today in .40 and a 5 inch slide.

Initial impressions are out of the box it is a nicer pistol and the changes are thought out well.  BUT it is probably offers little that a well set up original design does not offer.  If your 1st design already has an Apex trigger and stippling , etc. then do not loose any sleep over not having the latest version.  You are not giving up anything to someone with a 2.0 model.

My interest in the 2.0 is for a thumb safety on a 5 inch slide model. Before the 2.0 I had to buy 2 pistols and make my own 5 inch thumb safety model and then I ended up with a 4.25 I did not really use.  I used the 4.25s to arm up with women folk in the family come Christmas time.

I'm glad that S&W has made some incremental changes but you can count me among those who won't be rushing to buy one.  The three Gen 1's that I own presently are sufficient and I don't see myself switching back to a full-size M&P anytime soon for carry purposes.  And to think that about 6-7 years ago I was a die-hard M&P fanboy.  My Glock 19 sees more action than anything else I own, and close behind it are my P320 and VP9.  Other than the CZ P-10C due out any day now, I don't see myself rushing to own another handgun anytime soon.

I'm personally really looking forward to this.

I will say that seeing how all popular handguns are reliable and durable, a lot of times my purchases end up being based on aesthetics.

Of all the problems the original M&P had, they seem to be addressed in the 2.0. Inaccurate barrel, slide auto forward when forcefully inserting a new mag, slick grip surface, poor trigger, front slide serrations. I personally really like how they eliminated the beaver tail from the frame as well.

I will be picking one up soon.

I dig the 2.0.  My first four shots went into the same hole, with rest darn close as well.  Dig the 5", and the thing barely jumps in the hand.  While not leaps and bounds better than the first gen, I will say it is definitely refined and improved.

I have been shooting one of the early production 9Pros since they first came out.  Of course like a lot of folks did the whole APEX trigger deal to make it shootable. I even fired off a strongly worded letter to the CEO of S&W about how sorry the OEM trigger was for what was to be a ready out of the box gamer gun.  Told him to go buy a G34 to see how it was done right.

Also never, ever liked the auto-load with mag changes.  It does it 99% of the time until you really need it to.

All that said, I like the feel of the gun.  Mine has the early barrel, but its been accurate enough for me.  I'm really thinking about buying an Optic Ready version of the 9Pro GEN 2.0 once they come out.

And here is a question that needs to be asked....., Why does S&W not make a 5 inch .45ACP M&P?  That would cause me to place some of my 1911s into semi-retirement.

Doubt the 2.0 will make me replace my Apex-out 5" pro.  The Apex custom fit barrel is remarkable.  Like DMark, the autoload 'feature' is not absolute.  The standard M&P 45 is my favorite....a 5" version made with attention to details would be a real attention getter.

Seems to me the FDE 5" was made for military trials. Otherwise we would only have the standard 4.25" on release.

Curious to see one. Never liked the M&P line, maybe this will be a mind changer.
