I have looked all over the BATF site for an answer and can't come up with one to my question. Do you have to carry your paper work with you when transporting NFA's in your state? I would assume you FA guys do just because of the spectacle but what about SBR's??

ATF suggests that you have a copy of you NFA paperwork with the weapon. I always carry a copy with mine, no matter where I go with it.

From the ATF website:

(M25) Does the owner of a registered NFA firearm have to have any evidence to show it is registered lawfully to him or her?

Yes. The approved application received from ATF serves as evidence of registration of the NFA firearm in the owner's name. This document must be kept available for inspection by ATF officers. It is suggested that a photocopy of the approved application be carried by the owner when the weapon is being transported.

Yes, you do. A lot of People i know keep the originals in a safe location and make copies they keep in their wallet or on them in some form or fashion.

I have a friend that has a MAC-10 and he made a full color photocopy of his form, shrank it to credit card size, laminated it, and carries it with him at all times.

Thanks guys. Somehow I missed that page of ATF.:) I sent in a Form 1 for a SBR. It went on 12/31. Now I have to play the waiting game.

A guy I met had an AR SBR with a quad rail. He used a 1 inch scope ring, one of those cheap LED flashlights that have a 1 inch body, gutted the flashlight and stored a copy of his form in there. Always with the gun, looks acceptable.

I thought it was a good idea.

Some of the grips have compartments you could keep the papers in.

Yeah pretty much. :D

He just carries the copy of the form all the time, not the gun.
