MapPul X-22 Backpacker Stock

Like I'm sure many here probably have received, I too received an email from MagPul about their upcoming "Backpacker" stock.

I think it's darn neat. It's awfully close to completely replacing the AR-7. I wouldn't think the Ruger/MagPul combination would float. However, it looks like a very, very innovative and intriguing stock. I think I may have just made the decision to eventually get a takedown and this stock.

All of that being said, perhaps a Ruger 22/45 or MKIII would serve the purpose just as well.

It's not near as small as the AR-7, but it is a real rifle when it's together. I like (and own) the AR-7. It's a funky little thing.

My main issue when handling one was that it felt cheap. Honestly if Ruger were to take that survival rifle AR-7 concept and make a 10/22 version of it, it would sell very well.

I'm not sure. I think maybe a waterproof storage area. Fire starter, kindling, etc. I'm not positive.

Yeah, looking closer, it has an o-ring to help seal, and also looks like helps hold onto the barrel when stored.

edit: duh, plainly stated in product details: " Integrated storage compartment in the grip"

A main difference between this and the AR-7/Henry Survival Rifle is that the action and barrel are exposed here, but enclosed in the stock in the AR-7. Plus a couple hundred more clams for the Ruger+Magpul vs the HSR. Still, it's a neat way to pack up a 10/22 takedown.

Ok...I think I like it. I just added another one to my wish list. I have a couple of 10/22s, but no take-down model. Maybe I'll get into it...or maybe not. Too much else ahead of another 22 rifle. lol

Kinda ugly but nearly as much as the Henry. I have a take-down but I don't see myself changing anything like that on mine. Cool idea and innovative on Magpul's part though.

Wonder what sort of carry/protective bag it would have to fit in? I don't think it would(just guessing) in the supplied bad with some of the Rugers.

This is quite a bit more than the Henry. The Magpul stock will MSRP at $110. Plus you of course need the 10/22 Takedown which look to go for around $350. I've seen the Henry Survival Rifle as low as $178 on Bud's, but around $225 seems to be the current price.

I left out a word on there. I was saying that the Henry isn't as aesthetically pleasing as the Magpul stock on a 10/22. Personally I think the Henry is ugly but it is quite a bit cheaper. To each, their own.

meh.... different strokes for different folks..... it just doesn't do it for me. I've owned a couple AR-7's in the past and just never warmed up to them either. Personally I would opt for a 10/22 Charger over the 10/22 takedown with the X-22 stock given the choice. For a backpacking/survival hunting gun I generally go one of two ways currently. One is a scoped Crickett .22lr with a stock full of ammo and a bore snake for the lightest weight option(3.5 lbs total package). Second setup is a Norinco ATD( Browning SA-22 clone) take down rifle. It is a bit heavier than my first setup but it gives me a takedown full size tube fed semi-auto rifle. If I were in the market for another takedown .22lr backpack/survival gun, I would likely opt for a Marlin Model 70 Papoose over the Ruger. It weighs less, costs less, very accurate and reliable and still has the option for larger capacity magazines. Don't get me wrong, I love 10/22's but like I said...... different strokes for different folks!
