Have a line on a 3 inch .38 60-4 with adjustable sights. It is in very good shape, been carried and shot but not abused. What is it worth? Looking online I see some as much as $700 and some in thr $450 range. Wide swing there. This one has the blue plastic box. Just looking for value, not sure if it is worth me getting.

The 357's bring more money. i'd say $500 would be a fair price. Those are cool little guns, and weren't made for very long.

If you have a 60-4 TARGET (3” barrel with full underlug, and adjustable sights) you have a rare find. Mint it could be worth over a grand. Excellent is probably the $700 range you are seeing and below that the collectors don’t have much interest, so $500 or below range.

Please post pics.

This is one that actually sold. Is this what you have?

I dont have it yet, talking to a co worker about it.  He is wanting to sell it and I want to make sure it is worth it. All I have is a pic he texted me. In all honesty, I am just getting it to flip it. i have no interest in wheel guns, but thought it would be good trade bait. Here is the pic I have of it.

For a shooter, that gun can be bought new in the more desirable .357mag for $631 from Buds.

But I think you may have a rare find there.

I have the 60-4 and the 60-10. I stumbled upon both of them within a week of one another. The 60-4 had a little pitting and I have exactly $500 in it and honestly think that is what it is worth. I constantly watch auctions and mint 60-4's bring as much as $1k with boxes and papers. They came with cardboard flip boxes and not plastic ones. Any of the 3" 60's that are 38 spl are somewhat rare. The 60-10 is very desireable since it is a prelock 357 but there were more of them than 60-1's or 60-4's.

Oh, and all 60-4's would have came with rubber Uncle Mike's grips; either combat or boot grips.

Just an update to this I did pick it up the guy that I got it from was the original owner he said the wood grips were original on there and the blue plastic box is the original box has the label on the end with matching serial numbers and the label description is correct.

I have one of these and its my favorite hiking/camping gun. Small enough to easily carry, very accurate and the .38+P will handle anything I'm likely to encounter.

While these were limited production, they were made in small batches spread out over several years. Production started in 1990, but my gun's serial number dates it to 1993. While many did ship with rubber grips in a cardboard box, if the end label on that plastic box matches serial number and features, I'd believe it.

When it comes to Smith & Wesson, never say never. ;)

True, anything is possible with S&W. Greyfox54, the flashchromed trigger and hammer leads me to believe yours is from the first production run of very few numbers.

Pops, can I get the serial prefix? It's interesting that the numbers match the box because the plastic boxes came along after the end of the hammer mounted firing pin. The wooden magnas don't surprise me; I have just never seen a 60-4 with them.

It is BRN.

My 60-4 is a CAT prefix and my 60-10 is a CBL prefix. If I recall correctly the 60-4 is 1996 and the 60-10 is 1997.  BRN should be 1994.

The earliest confirmed plastic box I have found is 1995, but now yours is the earliest if it is 1994. Ironic still since later 60-4's have one piece cardboard boxes.
