Around my house it was perfectly fine to shoot on sunday's or even hunt for that matter as long as you didn't miss church. if you didn't go to church then no shooting. Just the way it was and I guess it has been engrained in me that is the way to this day I still do it.

+1. My reasoning as well.

When I was introduced to firearms, late 1940s, I was allowed to hunt my grandparent's farm. The farm was of several hundred acres and from many parts of the farm you could not hear gunshots on neighboring properties. Although my GPs and parents were not strictly religious they all respected the rights of others and would allow no excessive noise such as shooting on Sunday. Besides, hunting was illegal on Sunday back in MD.

I do remember going way out in the boondocks with my dad to this old boy who was a gunsmith of sorts. Sunday was like any other day to him and we sometimes hung out with him and shot. In fact that is where I shot my first 30-06 as a kid------another story.

So, I think it is about respect. If there is any chance at all that someone would be disturbed don't shoot.

JMHO, yours may vary.

I can remember my grandfart whining about me shooting on sunday. He always complained about everything I did, so I never paid him any attention. Sometimes my father would tell me to stop, just to shut him up. So I would put up my rifle and go ride my dirt bike.....a 1979 RM250 w/ the expansion pipe only...no muffler:devil:

If it is Sunday and after 11 AM and before 6 pm I do not see how anyone could make a case you are disturbing them.

Sunday is just one of 7 days of the week. No more, no less.

God would want me to defend myself on Sunday, so I guess he would understand practice on Sunday as well.

Went shooting today, Sunday- it was great. Took my wife, 13 yo stepson, and 24 yo daughter. We all shot a little of everything we brought. A religious experience, for sure.

I have heard of people not shooting on Sunday's so that they don't bother a nearby church or a home church.

That I could understand. It probably comes from Pastors not wanting there members out of church during hunting season and so trying to start some sort of "religious" tradition for prohibiting it. I pastored a couple of church's in Arkansas that became ghost towns during hunting seasons! Good fishing weather had a similar effect but was more spread out.:)

BTW - Sunday is just another day of the week. The Sabbath is Saturday.:D
