I saw those in Cracker Barrel the other day. The design in the bottom would make it very inefficient on a glass top range (what I have) but it would be more efficient than a plain bottom on a gas range.

I have a glass range top at the house but my travel trailer has a gas range so I will try both and see how well it works on both.  The glass gets pretty hot, even though the entire surface is not contacting the glass it should still have enough contact to heat the pan up.  My only concern is scratching up, or breaking , the glass.  But I figure as long as the skillet doesn't get dropped or moved around a lot it should be ok.

It won't hurt the glass unless you drop it, it'll just heat up slower than a flat bottom pan on the glass but faster on gas.  The difference may or may not be noticeable.

And if you do break the glass, it's not hard to replace.

Sharp looking pan and good on Lodge for this effort!

i gotta say, I wouldn't consider cast iron on my glass top. I have a hard time holding any pan still when I do my magic, I know I would at least gouge the glass, eventually.

The grill will see one of these though.

Apparently they sold out again but are taking orders for a January delivery.  They have raised 50k so far, not too shabby, but is just a drop in the bucket for what will be needed I fear.

Gouge the glass?  Nah. The bottom of my pan is pretty smooth, no different than any of the other pans.

The aluminum popcorn popper, on the other hand, has been banned from further stove top use.  Last time my wife used it, she shook the pan for the duration and left a layer of aluminum on the glass which took a while to clean off.

I've experienced some aluminum smearing too. That's horrible, perhaps I'll give it a go with the cast iron.

Gofer it. We use ours all the time, the glass top is none the worse for wear.

With lodge cast iron you can be sure you are getting a smooth bottom. I won't buy any other brand. Some of the Chinese crap is rough as sandpaper. I've bought lodge seconds that are 10x better than other company's best products.
