Do they have HP38? Supposed to be made by Olin and the same powder as 231.I know most reloading data has the listed charges for each within .2 grains of each other.

231 is identical to HP38. They come off the same line, and any variance you'll find is just due to different lot runs (if you don't believe me, do like I did and call Winchester/Hodgdon... 296 and H110 are the same, too)

To be honest, I don't know if there IS such a thing as a good deal on supplies anymore. I shop at the reloaders bench a lot, and sometimes the powders at the back of the shelves are a buck or two less than the newer ones at the front, but they don't stock a lot of 8lb jugs either. I say if you find it, buy it. Trying to find it for $10 less could take you weeks to months, or you may never find it. Good thing a little goes a long way with those powders!

I have been reading that HP38=W231. I want to believe that as HP38 is cheaper. I need to buy a 1LB bottle and check some loads. I have seen HP38 as low as 103.00 for a 8lb bottle. That is only 12.88 a pound plus tax. I will just have to make that call to Winchester I guess.

Anybody need some AA #5?

Ditto if you've found a good deal on some.

Are you having problems with AA#5? All of the Accurate Arms stuff has been great for me.

I've actually been finding the Winchester powders to be a smidge cheaper in general, but that's just in my experience... I may have just found a bunch of old leftovers with old pricetags! :ugh:

The best way to buy powder is in bulk.. and the best place to get it is at Powder Valley.

I agree, they have great prices! I don't have any funds available right now, but what about getting together a group buy to reduce hazmat fees? I was a member of a saltwater reef club and we did things like that all the time. If any of you want to do that, I would be fine with somebody starting a thread with something like "Group Buy" in the heading and going for it. My advice is to try and keep it local (like within a 20-30 min radius) so you're not sitting on somebody's stuff for a week or more. Also, there has to be one point man who is the order placer and drop point for the shipment, and I suggest collecting all monies BEFORE placing the order. I've seen that go south in a hurry!

I have 3 full pounds of AA #5 that I listed for trade in the classifieds. Not a thing wrong with it, I picked it up in a trade and I tried some from a 4th pound and it was OK but not as good in my guns as 231/HP38 has been over the years. I decided I did not want to spend the bullets and primers working up new loads when I could just buy an 8lb jug of 231 and be done with it. I use it in my 9mm/45acp/38spl loads almost exclusiely now, though I still use Bullseye and Unique also for some.
