Vehicle licensing question

I have been looking on the state and county websites and cannot find any info specifically for this situation.

Is it possible to license a vehicle in TN if I have a house here but my drivers license and other ID is for my main residence which is in another state ?

I want to buy a vehicle and leave it at my house in TN, it would seem stupid to license it in another state but it looks like I need TN ID to license a vehicle here.

Has anyone done this before ?

according to this site you should be able to - just says you need two pieces of evidence showing residence in TN

I would just give the county clerk a call tomorrow, they will do registrations - not the DMV.  Don't think they will care where you live as long as they get some of your money.

When you buy the car, give them your address here. I don't recall ever being asked for ID at the tag/title office.

I checked into this for my father-in-law a couple of years ago, and was told two different things at the Davidson County Clerks office. 

One person told me that all you needed were a couple of utility bills (water, power, gas) that were in the name of the person trying to register the vehicle and that showed the same as address.  

Another told me that the Tennessee property had to be your primary residence, unless the vehicle was registered under a trust or business.  

My FnL's health declined, to the point he couldn't drive, before I had to pursue it any further, so I am not sure who was correct.  My guess is that it will depend on which county you are in, and whose line you get in at the clerk's office.

Yes. If you have a business or residence in TN you'll be leaving the vehicle at you can use that address. It's not all that uncommon either. I know people who do the same with vehicles they leave on site in other states as well.
