What happened to all of the A2s?

Always wanted to build an A2 clone but never got around to.   Finally made up my mind and set aside a lower and now all of the A2 stuff is gone.  Figures that would be my luck.  Time to start hitting the secondary I suppose.

Current production is fine.  I remember not too terribly long ago Palmetto had complete uppers for something like 399 with FN barrels.  Those are long gone.  But even finding a stripped upper looks like its a scavenger hunt these days.  I just hate that flat tops have become so popular that places aren't even carrying the older style stuff.

Still do, I get their emails with them all the time.  This one doesn't have the rear sight/handle, but those are cheap too.

I built one a few years ago. At the time, the only place I could find an A2 barrel was BCM, and then had to send it off to get the front sight/gas block installed.

I have a new DPMS rear site kit if you find an upper receiver.

Thanks y'all.  I knew I could find the stuff.  I was more commenting on how quickly all of it kinda faded away.  I understand there are still a few out there but they used to be EVERYWHERE!

Yea, I never really liked A2s, just hate having a scope that high.  When I got my first AR, during the AR depression, I ordered an M&P flattop.  It took almost a year to get but at the then $800 it was a steal, now I can make two for that price.  Anyway, I still have a detachable sight/handle with a scope mount which I traded for, I figured I would use it as trading fodder for AR parts I wanted later.

I guess I just didn't notice.  Wish I had.  Oh well.

The upper receivers seem to be the only shortage.  Like I said, you are welcome to this rear site kit. It's a DPMS.

Thanks Mike.  I have another project ahead of this one so its going to be first half of next year but I'll let you know.

I'd like to do a retro build someday also. Can you still get the triangle hanguards anywhere at an affordable price?

When I did my A2, you couldn't get new ones. After doing some looking, I kinda determined that an A2 is as old as you can go and still get new parts.

Back when i was getting a retro build together, a TGO member put me onto NODAK SPUD.

There's more going on there besides AR uppers... Real deal retro copies and historical facts.  I found that site very interesting.  They even offer the very early original "finger" charging handle upper with brown furniture.  Now that'd be a hoot at the range.

Anyways, i did do a deal with them and even tho the fella isn't the best at communication, i can truly say he knows his product and when i got my parts they were perfect.  Check out the other retro links on their website too.  All kinds of info.
