Been in the market for a new 22 pistol for some time now. I own a Walther P22 but the sights on it have always been an issue for me as I have to adjust for elvation(I hate that interchangeable front sight) so I gave it to the wifey(shoots fine for her.) Yesterday went to the gun store bought me a Ruger 22/45 4" barrel. Heres the problem It wont hold a group and getting a consistent zero just hasnt happened. I shot CCI minimag and blazer,Federal auto match, and a magazine of stingers through it. Im no expert pistol marksman but I can hold my own. I stripped it last night to give it a good cleaning when I held the barrel up to look through it and it looks like its been shot out. It has some but theyre faint, the walther has at minimuym 2500 rounds through it and the grooves are twice as deep. The ruger is new and I was wondering if anyone knows how many microns deep these should be? Im going to the gun store now to look at the rest of them to see if theyre the same way. Im sorry for the rambling but as of right now I feel like taking a ballpen to it a really BIG one!

I have a Ruger Mk III 22/45 and it shoots very straight. Mine has the 4 inch bull barrel, just like yours. Here's a photo of the rifling in the barrel...

With the addition of a red dot mine shoots straight. With a little help from the local gun dealer Ruger is shipping me a new set of sights off of a mk3 hunter v notch and hi viz. Even in the pic your riflings look twice as deep as mine, I looked at all them at the store today they all look the same. Who knows just another way of keeping up with those cheap, high out put weapons that every one runs to get why every one with knowledge says not to

If it wasn't new, I would think it was leaded. Did you get much crud out of it when you cleaned it?

Really wasnt much of anything but the barrel is so tight you have to cut the patches till you really dont have much patch. Correct me if Im wrong but I was always taught to use a 1/2" square patch on a 22 and it wont go. With the 1/2" patch I tried a jag and a loop and when you get half the patch in it stops and you have to pull it out,not really forcefully but not easy either.

Have you tried a brush? 1/2" sq should go.

Brush will go and a bore snake will also.

It was a BSA 30mm I had laying around, nothing great just enough to prove it was the irons and not the shooter.
