  1. I'm with Garufa. Look around at most people.....If something that catastrophic happens lack of meds and medical care will kill more Americans than lack of food will. Then disease outbreaks and loss of sanitation will take a whole lot more.
  2. I think unless you're a regular primitive camper/hiker type person, the long range freeze dried food is not as good an option as what you are doing. It nothing happens and you keep the long term food too long, then I'd think it's a waste since you'd have to replace it. But if you were a regular user and kept your stock up by rotating it, the long term would be the best. I have some stuff, but nothing like the hard core people have. Water would not be a problem for me though.
  3. You are correct sir. It is the Optima Elite it seems.
  4. Well, I was able to sell a pool cue I had and decided to look over the Wolf package at Academy again after doing some price checking at Buds and buying an equivalent startup kit for a muzzleloader. As I was looking at them, I noticed that one of the 3 wolf packaged sets had $229 on it rather than $239 like the other two. I asked the salesman why the difference. He scanned the price tag and it read 239 and said it's 239 not 229. Another salesman told him to take it down and remove that tag. I though 229 was a really good deal and if I got it at that I'd be set. I told the salesman "I'll buy it right now at 229." He looked at the other salesman and he told him to give it to me. I went to the checkout and it rang up 239. I told the lady the guy in the firearms section said I could have it for the 229 that the tag shows so she changed the price and I walked out with the Wolf package deal for 229 plus tax of course. I'm happy with it and plan on shooting it later today. Oh...and thanks for all the help!
  5. Yep. My sister has a place and the deer come eat out of their yard. they also love the crab apple tree about 20 yards from their front porch.
  6. I know one thing. I love weight and the balance of the 50 caliber Wolf. The one I handled had iron sights, but they sure lined up great for my shooting stance. The stock drop and length of pull was perfect.
  7. I was in a pawn shop this morning and a man was looking at an optima they had. The person showing the gun said they have to sell them as a regular rifle due to it having several barrel configurations. He said you could buy a 243, 270, 30-06 barrel for it in addition to a muzzleloader barrel. They also said 12 ga and 20 ga shotgun barrels were available. Barrels were around $160 or so. If you don't mind a single shot, that would be the ticket!
  8. Thanks Dave. I'll have to do some comparisons. That may save me some money. I've bought 3 firearms from Buds, I don't know why I didn't think of them.
  9. Thank you for the info guys. I think muzzleloader season will be great for the reason you said and I'm thinking that reason and the deer are not yet skittish to all the people in the woods will increase my changes of filling the freezer. Not to mention 2 more weeks of being in the woods. I had a TC New Englander back in the early 70's and we had to shoot it to unload it, take it home and clean it every day....It was a real chore. The CVA Wolf is right in my price range. I'm glad to hear it's a good choice. I know a guy that's wanting my Muecci SE pool cue, so a CVA Wolf is definelty in my immediate future. LOL!
  10. Thanks KahrMan. It looked pretty good to me but I've been away from black powder too long, so thanks for the reply. The salesman said It is a breakdown rear breach type and the breechlock is suppose to be easy to remove and replace with your fingers as long as you keep it lubed.
  11. Even though we're still a couple of days away from August, I really can't help but get excited about fall....about fall fishing....about FOOTBALL....but most of all I'm already getting excited about DEER SEASON!! I know it's a ways off yet since I can't bow hunt due to health reasons, well that and not wanting to hunt in the heat of late summer as well as having to gear up for it. Archery equipment is pricy to say the least!! But, this will be my second season since retiring and being able to go anytime I want to go is really fun, so I’m already getting fired up about it. I hunted deer for 15 years or so back in the late 60’s and 70's and then quit, but I really did enjoy last year’s season. The weather was warmer than I’d hoped it would be, but I really enjoyed it anyway. I have decided that I do want to get a cheap muzzleloader though to add a couple of weeks to my season and time in the woods. I did hunt the black powder season back in the day so I’m not completely blind concerning what it’s all about. I have been looking around and things have sure changed in muzzloader rifles since I last owned one. My plan is to sell a few items I don't need any more to finance the purchase. I'm looking at a CVA Wolf .50cal package deal at Academy for about $240. It includes the rifle and a lot of items that would pretty much set me up I think and serve me well for quite a few years. So….I was thinking that maybe some of you veteran black powder hunters could look this package over and tell me your opinion and maybe make suggestions if there are other items I might need. Thanks!! http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/cva-wolf-209-magnum-50-muzzleloader-rifle-package Rambling over….
  12. I was there, but it was about 18 years ago. It's something everyone should see. The crashed UFO from Roswell, NM is especially interesting.....ya gotta ask to see it though.
  13. If Obama is involved you can BYSA it's not anything good.
  14. One problem I see with the term "mass shooting" is the term "shooting". It's used to place the blame on a firearm and not the criminal. The proper term should be mass killing, or something of that nature, especially since the recent mass killing of 19 people and 25 more wounded in Japan that was carried out with knives, and the mass killing by a truck in France that killed 77 and wounded many more. Mass killings will not stop as long as these people exist and a means exists to carry out their warped plans of destruction. We live in a very wicked world and people have been killing others way longer than the existence of firearms. An unarmed society is the dream of every criminal.
  15. There is no doubt about it. If she wins she will wage war against all guns and their owners. After a couple of SCOTUS liberal justices are put in place, the battle will be on.
  16. Gun control ALWAYS come first though.....just a thought. Well....you can't have the second without the first I guess is what I'm saying? Crap. I'm gonna pour another glass of wine and read this again. LOL
  17. That's a beutiful knife as well as one of a kind for sure!
  18. You are so right Bersaguy. Take Paul Ryan and his double standard for instance: Ryan said, “We want to have a system where people can come here and work– go back and forth if they want to… so that we have an open door to the people who want to come and contribute to our country, who want to come and make a difference in their families’ lives, and our economy.” I don't know who the "we" are in his comment, but it's not the we as in "We the people" http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/12/17/paul-ryan-builds-border-fence-around-mansion-doesnt-fund-border-fence-omnibus/
  19. Thanks for the heads up. I listened to several Joe Monamassa videos last night. He's very talented and puts on a great show.
  20. I thought this was an interesting article. It shows the Left trying to back away from the gun control issue (as they always do) for the remainder of the campaign trail. I felt the need to share it. Hildabeast does have a plan. Here is an excerpt from the article: " Clinton’s problem with the Heller ruling is that it reaffirmed an individual right to keep and bear arms that the federal government cannot violate. Two years later–in McDonald v. Chicago (2010)–the Supreme Court affirmed that this individual right is incorporated under the Fourteenth Amendment, thereby barring states/cities from violating it as well. Clinton is at war with Heller because she knows that if she can be successful in reversing the recognition of an individual right, then she can be successful in opening the floodgates for gun control at city, state, and federal levels." A liberal leaning SCOTUS for 20+ years into the future (the average time frame for a justice to serve) will be disastrous to the 2nd amendment as this would give them plenty of time to re-visit every gun control issue. http://www.breitbart.com/california/2016/07/22/politifact-hillary-clinton-misspoke-misunderstood-australias-gun-ban-trump-wrong/
  21. LOL....I used to do this back when we had a home phone and got telemarketer calls all the time. I had a fun time with some of them. I'd scold an imaginary child and tell them I was sorry, they'd have to start over and do this a couple of times in about 3 minutes. Sometimes I'd interrupt them several times to "go over that again....I didn't understand that part".....If it was a female I'd start asking them personal questions about anatomy....that always cut the call real short. LOL
  22. Very nice. Good work!
  23. My prayer list just keeps growing. Our country is headed into even harder times ahead I'm afraid.
  24. That's a good price for such a high quality belt.
