  1. Very good! Congrats!
  2. It's decision time. I've sat in my stand for 2 days without seeing a deer. I'm getting in plenty early like 6:20 with good shooting light not happening until around 7am. There's sign in the area with oaks and acorns everywhere, but nary a deer has dropped by. I'm thinking I need to move, but then, sure as I do I'll miss an opportunity. It's been really windy during both days and tomorrow is supposed to be calm. I got a spike week ago last friday from a different area and might go back there and see what's up. Oh well. I'll decide in the morning I suppose when I fire up the 4 wheeler. LOL! Good luck to anyone heading out tomorrow.
  3. The squirrels are really active. I'm hoping that's a sign the deer are too.
  4. I've been in my stand since 45 minutes before first light. I haven't seen a thing other than squirrels. Beautiful day though. I'm staying put for a couple more hours.
  5. Amen. Being in the woods is great! Seeing wildlife is a bonus, seeing deer a big bonus and putting meat on the table is YUGE..!!!! Haha....
  6. I'm heading back out in the morning. Good luck to those doing likewise in the morning. I'l be back in my stand about 30 minutes before daylight. I walked just enough to know there is quite a bit of sign in the area I'm in and I'm hopeful, even though I didn't see anything today. I've got my Grabber toe warmers and wool socks ready to go and warmer clothes than I had this morning.
  7. That thing just looks cool as heck. Your buddy is quite talented.
  8. That reminds me of a danged good joke......but this is the wrong place. It's still a good looking deer. I like the lighter color of the rack.
  9. I just came back to the truck for coffee and p/b&c's. Looks like most people out here have packed it in. I'm going back to my stand in about 10 min and sitting awhile. It's twice as nice now as this morning. Gonna enjoy now!
  10. It's still windy here and 39. I've not seen a thing yet. I'm thinking about getting down and slipping around a bit on a few log trails. PS. I wish I'd worn some long johns....muh lags is COLD!! Weatherman said low 50's all day.
  11. Same here. Gusts up to 15mph.
  12. It's 630 est and I'm in my stand. I'm very glad I came out! Good luck to everyone.
  13. YEP.....I'm going tomorrow to find my spot for Saturday. I'll probably just stay out until 11 or so. Who knows, I may still get another one for the freezer on the last day of muzzleloader. Then have the potential for 2 more does and a buck for gun season.
  14. VERY nice work! Especially the top right one in the dark brown leather.
  15. Ain't that the truth!!! Wind or no, I'm gonna be out there. I know I won't see anything from home.
  16. First day of gun season is Saturday which will begin with a predicted low of 50 deg with a high of 52. (I know right?) But here's the kicker: "Mostly cloudy early, then afternoon sunshine. Winds NW at 15 to 25 mph." SO...What would ya'll do. Go and take your chances with the wind......or sleep in?
  17. I'm glad to hear it will help! I'm really ready for an eight or better!!
  18. It looks like a cold front is headed our way for Saturday through the next week of Thanksgiving. IT'S ABOUT TIME!!! So.....what about the rut? Will it help? Or does the weather not really matter? I've been out of deer hunting for over 25 years and this is my second season. I do know that the bucks are chasing right now and I'm in the camp that weather has no effect on when the does come in "season".......What do ya'll think? I will be enjoying the cold weather though anyway. Deer hunting and warm weather just doesn't go together for me. I got a spike last Friday and fought yellow jackets and flies while field dressing him, then rushed my butt off to get him to the processors ASAP since it was a healthy and nice sized deer. I remember hunting in the snow in November 30 years ago. Now it's 70+ degrees
  19. Well, I let the area I got one on Friday die down over the past couple of days. I decided not to hunt and spend a couple of days with my wife. I'm back on the trail though tomorrow early am. Looking for a big boy now. I've got meat for the wife and I that will last quite a while.
  20. That's a huge deer! Congrats!
  21. My hat is off to you guys willing to process your own deer. At my age and condition, it's all I can do to field dress one and drag it out of the woods!! I can clean a mess of crappie though lickety split!! LOL.
  22. I finally saw a deer yesterday morning. 3 actually. 2 does came along a trail I was about 30 yards from. I thought about taking one since I have a doe permit but decided to wait. About 15 minutes later a spike came down the same trail with his nose on the ground. Very small antlers with one broken off but good body size. It will be some good eating though! He's at the processors now. Not worth a picture, but weighed in around 110 lbs field dressed. My first deer since I started back hunting last year.
  23. I agree with GT.....Great job!
  24. I turkey hunted last spring for the first time. I only saw deer. I've hunted deer every day this week and have seen 7 turkeys so far and no deer...
