Well, I've put in for it. Seems like I read that, for this first series, they narrowed 350 down to 16 shooters. I'll bet it'll be a LOT more than 350 for the 2nd go-round. Anyway, I sure wouldn't have a chance if I didn't apply. I can shoot, but we'll see how well I'd do on television. Robert in Erwin, TN

I carry my 2" SP101 in a Crossbreed Supertuck about 80% of the time. The ammo is handload (Yeah, I know... my choice though) 158grn Winchester SJHP at 1080 fps. The other carry gun is a Kimber full size .45, depending on my mood & clothing. The revolver in the ST holster is easier to conceal & can be tucked. Robert in the hills of Tennessee (Erwin, TN)

Why can't we? I'd sure like to keep a shotgun (loaded, of course) in my car, but TN law says I'd be a criminal if I did. Maybe I'll write my state representative after the election. Does anyone have a sample letter written for such a purpose? Robert in Erwin, TN

Shooting Coach, Yep, I know the state wants its $$$$. I've been a licensed PI for quite a while & am familiar w/ their procedures, etc. Also licensed in OH, NC, SC, GA, WV, VA, KY. As for carrying while working, the firearm would only be for personal protection and would not be used for protecting property, other people, etc. Robert

PIs & security guards are two different things, although I believe they are regulated and licensed by the same state agency. Some PIs carry as part of their jobs, but they are not acting as SGs. Yes, like Fallguy said, PI & security guard are two different things. Some PIs can carry, if their license is set up that way. Mine is not & that's fine. I don't want to hassle with qualifying every year & all the regulations that go with it. Robert

Fallguy, Well, that statute indicates to me that it would be OK. HOWEVER, I deal with a lot of police officers. Some (most) are pretty cool & actually do know the law, while some are just plain horse's butts (think Concord, NC - but that's a whole 'nuther story). I think, just to be safe, I'll toss the unloaded gun into the back, out of reach. Changing subjects a bit, I'll just vent for a moment. I don't like that TN doesn't allow loaded long guns to be carried. Would be nice to be able to carry a loaded 12 gauge, like I used to in TX. Robert

I'm a licensed private investigator. Took my handgun carry class today & will soon turn in my application to the state. I am not authorized to carry a weapon under my PI license in Tennessee, but will be with my new CCW permit. So, my question is this: I often do surveillance from school parking lots, often spending several hours at a time there. Inevitably, I will end up talking to the police. Am I in trouble if I have a handgun in my vehicle in a school parking lot (never taking the gun out of the vehicle)? Also, what about adjacent states? I tried to ask this question of my instructor today, but did not get an answer - he just kind of hemmed & hawwed. Robert

I took the class today. It was OK, but it dragged a bit at times. They were pretty basic, teaching things like handgun nomenclature & how to clean a pistol & revolver. I thought that was a little odd, but of course there were some people in that class who were rank beginners w/ firearms. Anyway, the class is a no-brainer & you'd have to really try to not pass. Just listen & have an open mind; ya' might learn something. I did. Mostly what I learned is how different TN is from TX (I used to be a TX CCW instructor). The TX laws are a lot more relaxed as far as protecting property. In Tennessee, deadly force is only authorized as self-protection. RTL

Pepper spray does wonders at disuading them. Not threatening its use, but actually spraying them with it. Robert in Erwin BTW, I've never seen panhandlers in Erwin, but back in my Austin, TX days....
