Cancer rates have as much to do with modern medicine as anything. There are exceptions of course, but generally we now survive long enough to develop cancer. Add to that very stupid lifestyles and some long term genetic effects of modern chemistry. You want to see a real raging argument, research Linear No-threshold theory (LNT) vs Radiation Hormesis Theory. The basis for regulatory pressure (and public perception) in radiation protection is essentially LNT....the idea that any radiation whatsoever has a detrimental effect. However, it is probably not true, and the LNT theory has had some major hits in the last few years, with the tide slowly turning to the hormesis theory, that some levels of radiation are actually beneficial to health. Health Physicists have been arguing the point for years.

Curious.... on this thread, over on the right, I am seeing a new button next to the quote button - "mark solved". What's that ?

I used to collect Kel-Tecs, so If it was ever found in the wild at a reasonable price, I would get one. But, I don't smoke crack, thus will never see one.

I am a die-hard Kelgren fan, but ......daaaaangggg...... This one is seriously ugly! The new RDB vaporpup - http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/01/chris-dumm/new-kel-tec-nothing-will-ever-able-buy/#more-287861 I bet George made this one HOPING that Ruger rips it off....

Thanks. I had been looking at that page and this one for required tools - http://www.itstactical.com/warcom/firearms/diy-ar-15-build-introduction-parts-and-tools-required/

Thanks, If there are any videos that you believe offer better close-ups and angles on detail, please post them. B.

Thanks, I have been watching some of them, but the eyeballs ain't what they used to be.

Welcome Nick You are right, this is a great crowd, and they love their cutty-slicey-stabby-choppy things.

Both. A neighbor friend and I are trying to learn/build together, each with own TGO set. There are two sets of stripped lower/uppers, and PSA lower /upper parts kits for each. (he has bbl & gas block also on hand) He has re-barreled an upper, but not done a lower, I have done neither one. Between the two of us I think we have all the required tools, and some of the more handy but optional ones too. Mostly, I was hoping to watch one up close so I could come back and set up ours (I am looking at videos and diagrams, but would like to see one live). B.

The ProChrono is pretty reliable, but make sure you are set back enough to minimize blast effects. I am generally 15-20' or more from mine

So is anyone in Oak Ridge Area building their TGO receiver? I would like to watch & learn. Thanks, Bert

You can't have enough powders to try out. I got tired of having to run around trying to find what I needed for a project load. Collect one every visit to the supplier, when you see them (and projectiles too). One of each of the popular ones listed above, then start adding depth to the width of your collection. Right now I have 22 types of powder (and more than one in the standards). BTW.... for reduced loads (for the kids, ladies, plinking, BIG magnums, etc) , keep a bottle of TrailBoss on hand.

Ironically, it was person likely born into slavery (Some say January 1864) who resurrected the economy of the South - George Washington Carver. -
Good Deal on Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50 MC

I sent RED X an email asking about future endeavors in .204 Ruger. I agree on good glass, just can hardly afford it until I get a decent job and maybe sell some toys. I have a very nice little Nikon 1-8x40 that is marvelously clear, but the larger scopes are just cheap 4x16x40mm Center-Point from WalMart. They do an awesome job for a <$100 scope (and better at long range than my Nikon due to the magnification). I am running sub-MOA at 300 yards with them on a Howa and a Encore. I am however, looking forward to better glass. I developed cataracts & glaucoma, and had a retinal detachment several years ago. It has been a real problem learning how to shoot again. Nothing is ever where I think it is anymore. I am looking at the 24" Shilen with matching bolt, largely because I can get one quickly. I understand via the guys at .204ruger.com that the 32 Gr Sierras and VMAX will still stabilize with it, and one guy even reported that the 26 gr Barnes did fine. I mostly play with load development on 34gr Dogtowns, which do surprisingly well for a very cheap projectile (I am running ~.375 to .5 MOA in some loads). B. -

Ok, I was just curious. My eyes ain't so good, so I am looking for a bigger scope for my 204s. I need to play with some decent scopes, but my 14x40 & 16x40 just are not enough over about 300 yards on small stuff. You are running better stuff than I, though. Question (sorry about jacking the thread) - On your AR, which barrel are you using? The 24" Shilen 9 twist? I have been looking for a decent barrel on the shelves, and there are not many out there at the moment. Most of the good ones are 6 Mo lead time, it seems. I really wanted the 20" Shilen government profile, but cant find one. -

Do you already shoot 204? -
Humanity survived atmospheric and sub-sea nuclear weapons testing, and will survive this. BTH, I saw news reports screaming about radiation levels of 1.8 Becquerel per liter (of radio-Cs) - basically two disintegrations per minute per liter of water. To put this in perspective, that is less than natural background levels overall, and is less radioactive than a banana. The professional communities response over all this reaching the USA is expressed in terms of :snore: I do like the price of fish dropping. I have been eating better.

and check your coolant for oil ingress, as well as look for coolant in the oil (will show on the dipstick)
-
Not a mechanic, but sounds like a blown head gasket. You certainly don't want to score a cylinder wall due to ingress of coolant.

What will be comical is when the Little General turns on Rodman and holds him captive for spying. I would love to hear the "negotiations" to get him freed. Norks: "Apologize!" State: "Nanu Nanu."
