Gatlinburg Mayor just confirmed 3 fatalities. Still miraculous. There were a number of neighborhoods that were quickly blocked by fire / tree fall preventing notification by emergency personnel. Gov. Haslam - largest fire in 100 years in the state of TN
-
The firefighters & emergency responders did an amazing job in saving lives last night, under impossible circumstances. The wind here in Clinton was 30 MPH, I can only imagine what it was like up there. There may be some navel-gazing coming up, but damn, those guys were good.
-
Yeah, from what I understand ~100 structures (mostly homes) in Cobbly Knob alone.

Traffic is quiet right now, but 146.94 MHz on Bluff Mountain / Greentop - http://www.wb4gbi.com/greentop.html is the Morristown National WX Service Net Frequency, backup on 146.625 MHz . FM radio WIVK 107.7 is on the Bluff MTN site (same bldg. as .94), and was wall-wall coverage. They will break format again as needed. I understand DMR / TN SW is also active - http://www.wb4gbi.com/DMR.html And there is traffic on the MTEARS statewide network - http://mtears.org/ You may listen to State Forestry Firefighters on 159.330 MHz and 159.435 MHz Sevier County may be monitored here - http://www.broadcastify.com/listen/ctid/2505 (assuming communication links are still intact)

Useful TEMA information updates on the Gatlinburg fires - http://www.tnema.org/ Listening to the ham radio & a few news-guys on FB...it's not over. Hopefully the rain helped. 10mph wind forecast for today, 20MPH for tonight
-
Fire now at edge of Dollywood property. So far, only minor injuries reported.
-
<oh bleep!> The Fire Command Post in Gatlinburg is being evacuated.
-
I have been listening to side-traffic and NWS info on the 146.94 repeater. It is very bad. Areas of Pigeon Forge near the Traffic Light #8 to the Gatlinburg Spur are on fire and under evacuation order. Indications an hour ago - 30+ buildings in Gatlinburg on fire.
-
Oh, I agree. SP (~12 weeks all total there) was no different than Moscow (~5 weeks), Johannesburg (~26 weeks), Memphis (1.5 days??), or ... my own back yard in New River. It does makes things worse when you don't speak the language (although I eventually learned New River)
-
Heh. Like Hotel Sao Paulo? (an IAEA inspector friend had the living hell beat out of him not 10' from the steps to the entrance. When I stayed there, I am not sure I slept a wink)

<caveat - written under effects of post-operation anesthesia> I pondered this also, and largely agree. In the absence of crisis, "normalcy" returns for a while (re firearms demand). That said... it *may* very well be the case that "crisis" has simply switched political paradigm, and now the libtards really ramp up on gunthink (with requisite head-sploding of course) - due to their perceived threat of POTG/conservatives...and President-Elect Trump. SO, with luck the 2A wins out with further converts, solidifying the overall 2A state-of-health. AND all that crap above said ... What I think really happens is we (POTG/TGO) get is a 2-year or 4-year relative reprieve on price-jacking & demand - thus - smart $ continues to be "buy low, sell high", and "don't get on the box-car". <Don't beat me up too bad, Mac>

Parking lot law problems where I work
R_Bert replied to 2000silverz28's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Perhaps, but that will not save your job, nor deter employers. I do admit my experience with the local circuit court, does bias me. I effectively got - "you did the right thing, but it doesn't matter" (non-firearms related) Seriously...TN law is greatly biased in favor of employer. -

TN State employment law is what allows them to do what they do. The TN gun laws are irrelevant in employment termination issues. -

Keep your mouth shut. Keep your head low, and be productive in your job. It is the best that you can do, and even then may not be enough. As others have indicated, TN employers need *no* reason whatsoever to terminate you. And... certain select cases exempted... you have *no* recourse. If you go out the door, it is very likely that you are just simply screwed, no matter how right you are... (sound like the voice of experience??) -
My sorrows also. My heart breaks for you, your wife, family, and friends. Amen to the prayers given.

Hams Helping Hams series of forums - https://www.facebook.com/groups/1380163888675991/ will have announcements. There is a monthly forum at the King Library over the next year. It's free, and anyone may attend. You do not have to be a ham operator. I think either October or November is Advanced Foxhunting
-
Apparently not too much. They had a blast fox hunting today at the King Family Library in Sevierville. Did you attend? I am recovering from surgery, so did not make this one (apparently foxes like tomato plants)
-
Have you tried any Hornady? On a new gun, I think that a call to Savage repair technician might be in order, just to get calibrated. Send a short email w/ these photos. Bert
-
Are you shooting reloads? I had to go to a small base die.
-
You were even closer, then. Do give a holler.
-
how often you get over this way? I am less than a mile from the Clinch, & ~ 15 minutes from Peach Orchard ramp.
-
My reality. And to complicate things, I blew out another eye last week (retinal detachment)

We have a fair amount of decent activity down this end of the state. Folk around here complain about "no activity", but due to mountaintop repeaters, it is substantially more active than Atlanta or Memphis (I think). real-time SHTF still requires planning, setup, and practice. That is where the license comes in handy. You can then do those things with little fanfare or attention to yourself. And... sans practice, real SHTF Coms are chaotic, even counterproductive. Next, .gov already knows who you are, so an address in >one more database< won't make a lot of difference. Don't kid yourself that you are hidden just because you don't have a license for a radio. Don't kid yourself that you can find a "hidden" frequency. In the day of SDR technology, anyone can hear you...instantly (bandscope & DVR are common now. Finding you might take slightly longer, but you if you are on the air, you are already known by anyone with a few $ of Amazon.com gear like an SDRPlay)
-
and worse... those sheeple ham operators won't talk either.
-
That would be a heck of a budget, then. FCC is currently zapping some unlicensed dude in NY for $12K/day/violation. Right now, he is liable for ~$140K. It is also silly to *attract* unwanted attention.
