  1. deer are color-blind.
  2. I am amazed at how many cars pass me on a double-yellow line.  When I am already speed-limit or over.
  3. So, where is the gear that was taken?
  4. Try for the interview at OR.   You can't turn down what is not offered.......
  5. sage advice from the son of a master machinist (44 years at the crank & CNCs at Y12 - when he retired, he was #1 slot in seniority for over 10 years):   You won't read about a lot of details in the news (most of it is classified there), but I will also point out that Y12 *is* the most advanced tool machining facility in the world.   You might want to consider an apartment for an opportunity up here.   5 years in that place, especially volunteering for time in all the major shops, and you could write your ticket almost anywhere.   BTW, before now, I have not seen them ever advertise a machinist post through a recruiter.
  6. Y12 has an opening posted for machinist right now.
  7. People in the modern church are paradoxically - more connected, but more isolated. Not because of the church, but because of post-modern lifestyles - transportation, Internet, Facebook, Cell Phones, etc.     Earlier churches were a closer knit community, due to necessity (barn raising, neighborhood schools, crop planting & harvesting, etc).    The function of the elders/deacon was originally focused on elderly widows.  The community took care of the rest of the needs.   What is missing from the equation is the "community" aspect.  Sunday Schools took that role for ages, but now is diminishing.    If you run the number on our church (6000 attendance per week), expecting the staff to attend to all the needs is futile.    Running the numbers from a practical standpoint -   40 staffers * 3600 seconds * 8 hours = 192 seconds a day, per member.  That is 3.2 minutes for *everything* involved in operating our church.   In fact, it is so overwhelming, that we say "Hope you get a small grouper, because if you see a pastor, you probably are on your death-bed"   Some churches, like ours -  rely on "small groups", and it comes back down to communications & participation (otherwise out of sight, out of mind).   It's not that they don't care, it's logistics and being aware.   I hope that it gets better for you and your wife.  Reach out and let the laypersons know of your trials.  You may be pleasantly surprised at their response.
  8. I note that they announced their event in past-tense, not to mention made claims of victory that never happened.   Getting off to a good start in E TN. Lie a  bit, hide a bit, BS a lot.
  9. Demanding Axshun in Blount County -     http://m.thedailytimes.com/news/gun-sense-group-holds-cookout-in-blount/article_944a6c3d-7db2-5d1c-9b7e-72f8f0c96c78.html?mode=jqm
  10.       That's "rentapig".  ("paypig" & "pigpal" come to mind also!)   Heh. I think I'll  have better ROI on shooting a frozen ham in the Kroger's meat department.  Although I may not be allowed back in the grocery store for a while.
  11. TN has pig hunting???
  12. Hi Brandon,   Good to hear of a local starting up. We need more good ones around here.   I am just a forum member, but - Posthaste, take the advice given above on becoming a TGO Vendor. It is the only way you will be allowed to even remotely promote your business.   Start here, I think - http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/forms/1-advertising-inquiry/ (Someone will correct/edit on Vendor procedures)   Otherwise, you will trip up over this stuff - http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=boardrules   Good luck.
  13. they happened to make TTAG - http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/08/robert-farago/anonymous-guide-huey-p-newton-gun-club/
  14.   Well, I think the reports said 9mm, so  lets assume (for a number) that the officer was using a Glock 17 with magazine extension allowing 19 rounds, and since I don't own  a G17, let's give him one for the chamber ...so assume he has 20 rounds (and that he fired them all).   6/20 = 30%. If he had a 33 rnd mag, then is over 18%, and still put the perp down.   Any fewer actual rounds, and the percentages only get better.   All in all,  excellent considering a broken face.   Better than I would have done, and probably better than most cops too.
  15. In Oak Ridge, 6 shots were recently fired at a perp abt 15 feet away, by two different marksmen. All six missed. I think I they were trained in LA or NYC, but no SUV was available. To *her* credit, perp then had enough sense to drop her weapon and sit down.
  16. Which, considering other reported "stats" is pretty good shooting for a cop.
  17. ^^^^this.   It is a $359 gun.  It is cool, but it is worth every penny of $359 (pre-panic price).
  18. A question - Tennessee Promise scholarships are available to graduating seniors. Provides two years of community college. Anyone aware of educational help available for washed-up, broken old farts needing a totally new start?
  19.   talking about paybacks - I once had a new ham radio friend who dropped by and proudly showed me his just-received PhD in EE (He was ~55 years old and had spent years in night school).   He literally and suddenly dropped dead within 30 days.
  20.   that's a mighty purty chair on wheels you got there....just saying....
  21. Call Dominos, and check the generator.
  22. He is aware. He drives Shannon Watts batcrazy with it (MDA watches TTAG, and apparently they know /hate each other). Dirk has an ongoing hobby of trying to score a date with Watts.
  23. I had no idea Luanne Platter from KOTH was dead. Now I'm depressed.
  24. The .20 Vartarg looks attractive also.
