Look for something with a Hornady XTP projectile for hunting. -
Knoxville gun show Thanksgiving weekend
R_Bert replied to Major Kong's topic in Events and Gatherings
actually, other than the real risk you identified (and justifiably)....it is the perfect place to teach a kid about gun safety....by observation, identification (of unsafe practice), and explanation. (as my pop would say... "see that moron over there?? DON'T DO THAT!"). The kids need to be able to hone their situational awareness. Ranges and hunting/plinking buddies can be much more dangerous. And by then, it is too late. But I stay away from the Jacobs Bldg for many other reasons. -
SO.... Do I understand?????? *as* I possess a license, and am found outside of my house from time to time, I have to carry a harvest log, even if devoid of harvest? 'cuz that's they way they wrote their rules. If I am on my farm, with my daily carry gat (or not), I can get busted for not having in my possession a printout of a log that is otherwise on-line ?? I hate the reg-guide.

predator calls (including electronic) are legal for coyote in TN, during daylight hunting hours (same as without call). Here is the TN reg guide - http://www.tn.gov/twra/pdfs/huntguide.pdf I will note, that any legal way to take deer is also legal for yote (during deer season). Yote may always be taken by same method as game in season (large or small). The rules for private land vs public are not the same. Read them carefully. And yes. It is confusing.

Absolutely NOTHING to do with guns. But, when I was 30...

WOW. Very nice. Just watching made me dizzy. That was a whole lot of air. I have no idea how you managed to walk off that stage in a straight line after that. -

5th edition, p. 218 ("AR-15 data") Even the accuracy & hunting loads are different. (RE7 & H335) They also have "bolt-action" data starting on p. 228, but it is even more conservative, and does not list your powder at all on 55 gr. projectiles. B.

Just my inherent caution - I have always been leery of the mechanical wear on the powder (grinding into additional powder fines). was told it changes the volumetric density and burn rate. Size and shape of powder granules matter. When at the edge to begin with, it seems easy to exceed. That IMR powder is not known for temperature stability above 80F. BTW, *my* Sierra manual says 26.7 for 55gr FMJBT, not 27.2. And, it is only midrange velocity. Better powder choices all the way up the page. Just my thoughts. It's your gun & eyeballs.

A compressed load? yech. just the mechanics alone can bite you, much less other time, temperature & handling factors.

Looking for Geissele triggers this year. Let us know if y'all see them on sale.

and it doesn't take that long. I know a *lot* of kids in their 30s & 40s that own everything - house, cars, toys (with no payments whatsoever), and pull down $150-$200K per year. *every single one has a BS in some type of engineering, and a Masters in the subject of their interest* I know several engineer/lawyers and a few engineer/MDs, tons of Engineer/MBAs. B.

^^^^^^^^^^this. Unless you inherited big $ and a financial investment counselor - do something that produces a product and a reliable wage. Engineering, technical disciplines. high wage areas with high employment probability (do your research). Stay the hell away from liberal arts, humanities, and pop culture degrees. Get something that any idiot HR rep recognizes as a "must-have" employee. Stay away from stupid people, including whoever you date (see first part of sentence again.....focus on getting your **** together * being solid. Then play.)

Obviously, that was the sooper-secret Gibson, so even you were not cleared for knowledge. Now, look at my nice silver pen......

The Tennesseean (Or, Brian Haas et al have left the building)
R_Bert replied to R_Bert's topic in General Chat
yep. And even in troubled times, some papers seem to toss a match into the back-seat trash as they mash the bus accelerator over the cliff. An amazing management scene & story that they have set in place. I seem to recall other Gannett organizations recently self-destructing in a similar manner. I would hate to be a stock holder. -
What a cluster.... They almost qualify to run a banana republic. http://www.nashvillescene.com/nashville/high-profile-exits-leave-the-tennessean-even-thinner-staffed-than-planned/Content?oid=4749595

This is my shout-out to a group that did something quite unexpected and very nice for me. Did you ever have a moment when you knew that you would be a rabid fan of a company? I had one this afternoon with SLR Rifleworks (they were suggested to me by our very own member - Lumberjack) I had ordered one of their adjustable gas blocks for my TGO build - http://slrrifleworks.com/index.php?route=product/product&filter_name=Sentry+7&product_id=128 ......and had a minor hiccup. I first emailed them at ~10:20pm on a Sunday evening, and they replied THREE (3) minutes later (!!), and promptly made an arrangement to my satisfaction. *then* - two weeks later, my order was fulfilled yet again.....uh-oh.... Called them - explained the duplicate. Their response - "no problem. Why don't you just keep it and use it on your next build! Send us pictures!" This blew my mind. 110% all the way (which was plenty enough), and then an awesome gesture to a fellow who really needed the unexpected pick-up in low moments of life. SO, I had read good reviews about the performance of their gas-blocks. I have yet to install mine, and will report back as soon as the TGO 204Ruger is up and running; but I can attest to the solid character of the vendor. I will be an enduring customer and cheerleader for SLR. Cant wait to get started on the next build too. Bert

That's what I was thinking. A herd of Honda Trail 70's, ATVs, Utility Vehicles (ex Polaris Ranger et al), bicycles, etc. A 4x4 truck doesn't split lanes very well, nor cross ditches, washouts, & downed trees, abandoned vehicles & other road-blocks. I lived on a mission compound in the interior of Belize for a year (~40 miles below Dangriga / Monkey Creek). There were days where the only useful vehicle was our D-7 Super Cat. And we had to walk to get to it.

Anyone hunt with a .45 muzzleloader?
R_Bert replied to 10-Ring's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I almost wish mine was .45 Cal. My little Thompson Center 50 cal with the 20" Katahdin bbl is very light and kicks the ever-living heck out of me, even with limb-savers and their decelerator stock (2 pellets of 777. Can't imagine what 3 would feel like).
