1. If I can get the money up I would love to harvest an Oscellated turkey. By far the prettiest of all the turkey species.
2. Thanks. It wont be until next year though.
3. My next turkey im gonna hunt is the Rio Grande.
4. Sounds like you had a great time.........lol Hey you got a good hunting memory.
5. I look forward to turkey season every year. Love the challenge of calling in a bird. Gets my blood pumping and it never gets old. Hopefully next year I can start my Grand Slam that I have always wanted to do.
6. I wouldnt choke it down to much cause of the closer shots you may get. Thats why I went with the #6 shot, more pellets in them. From 10 yards to 20 the pattern was really tight with my choke. Like I said I shot out to 60 and it ate that target up. With the right load and choke these new longbeards can be very deadly at greater distances. They patterned better than the Hevi shot blend with my setup but each persons setup will be different.
7. Ive shot 2 coyotes this year while out calling turkeys. Both times I found hair and blood but no coyote. Granted both times the coyote was out past 50 or more yards.
8. Congrats nice birds. I too made a really long shot on my first bird.
9. Winchester longbeard xr #6 3inch. My Mossberg 835 and Indian Creek choke and the longbeard xr make for a deadly combination. I patterned it out to 60 yards with awesome results.
10. Got off work today and decided to hit the woods. I setup along a fence row that separated 2 fields.and started calling. I called for 45 minutes to an hour before he came strutting in. He never once gobbled but seems I'm used to that this year. I actually heard him spittin and drummin before I seen him. I made a 10 yard shot and he went down. Had to shoot through a grown up fence but I knew it wouldn't be a big issue. he weighed 21 pounds had a 9.25 inch beard and 1 1/8th inch spurs. Not the longest beard this season but had nice spurs. 11. Gonna do some calling in the morning for a buddy of mine. He has only been once. He hunts with his bow and I told him if he misses I will back him up with some #6 shot lol.
12. Ha ha ha I forgot about the croc jokes. Hey they were comfy lol.
13. Im gonna be out this weekend. Got 2 tags left so hoping I can fill another tag.
14. Thank you. Went to 3 properties to get one to gobble. I bet I walked 5 miles today.
15. #2 flopped today. 10 inch beard and 1 inch spurs. He didn't gobble until I was 50 or so yards from him. I was walking slowly through the woods calling on and off. He was on top of me before I knew it. Sat down by a tree and didn't even have time to put my face mask on. I just lowered my hat to cover my face. Once he started gobbling he came over the hill and I shot him around 25 yards.
