1. Could be poaching but someone could have just cut the back straps and head off then dumped the carcass. I see it all the time and makes me sick. I always take as much meat as I can from the harvest. Might sound weird but I feel like I owe it to the animal not to waste it.
2. Thanks everyone. He's not my biggest 8 ever but he was a good one. Here's a pic of my friend Kevin's first deer. He was shooting a Weatherby Vanguard 7mm Rem Mag. A pic of were we where and the deer. As you can see it was a close shot. We were actually standing in the trail whispering our next game plan when he came down the ridge. I would say maybe around a 30 yard shot. He never had a clue we were even standing there. Oh and don't get jealous on my artistic skills lol.
3. If he hadn't grunted than it would be a pic of a big doe lol.
4. Got a chance to go out on my families land in Perry County this weekend. Got to hunt for 3 whole days. A buddy of mine killed his first deer a 3 pointer. He was a happy camper! I had been seeing some does and decided to pass on them. This morning I went out (last day) and decided I would take a doe if it came through. I sat watching a big hillside and seen three does going across it. I was about to shoot the biggest one, when I heard a buck grunting. I waited for a minute or 2 and here he came. I seen he had antlers and that was good enough for me. I let the Browning BAR 30-06 ring out in the holler and down he went. I thought he was a really nice 6 but after ground checking it, he turned out to be a nice 8 pointer. 5. I got to have me one of those GoPro's. Love the video!
6. Congrats on your first deer and a buck at that. Good luck on the rest of the season.
7. My cousin killed a spike many years ago that had the antlers growing up and behind the ears (they were growing straight down behind the ears) . It was a weird looking buck. He thought it was a doe. I remember he shot it with an SKS.
8. I would say a 20 gauge would be perfect.
9.
Yeah its funny how you see a bunch of nice deer on game cameras and then when you go hunt them they are non existent. Guess thats why they call it hunting!
I figure if I keep at it then they will slip up......I hope lol.
10. What are you feeding them Dave?
11. I'm seeing deer both does and little bucks. Seen a spike this morning. His right tine was about 8 or 9 inches long and the left tine was only 3 or 4. He was chasing a doe around. I still haven't seen any of my big deer. I'm kinda getting frustrated so I'm hitting some other properties this week. Maybe that will help out. I seen 1 little doe this evening.
12. TN has no mag restriction except on migratory birds i.e dove, ducks, geese......
13.
Moved here from Hawaii. Havent had deer meat yet. Ive heard it tastes "gamey" and that jerky is the best. Thinkin about takin up huntin myself. Sent from my HTC Inspire using Tapatalk 2
If you cook it right it isn't "gamey". I grew up on it and I absolutely love it. I love soaking mine in buttermilk for a little while then toss it in flour, salt, pepper then off to the fry daddy until golden brown. My Paw made it this way and would cook it for breakfast. I sure do miss his cookin. I cook it other ways but hard to beat it fried like that in my opinion.
14.
What are you doing shooting a plastic muzzleloader?!
Ha ha.
15. Nice deer and best of all meat in the freezer.
16. Could try fishing for some catfish or crappie. I don't think WIlliamsport lakes are that far away.
17. Not sure whats up, I thought for sure I would have seen one of those bigger bucks. Guess I need to be a little more patient. Going back out in the morning if I'm able.
18. Call your local Law Enforcement Office and let them know. If you go out there and find them on your property call the Police. If people are purposely trespassing then yes they need to go to jail. I take that as if you were breaking into my house.
