  1. They almost look like factory crimps. I have no clue why they are there but I have seen them on various new, factory ammo. I just went and pulled a handful of polished cases out of my bin and found a Winchester case that has it. After you reload them a few times the marks will work themselves out and you wont see them any more.
  2. Here is something I was told recently by a gunsmith (he had been GunTroil on here but is no longer on TGO). He said that reblueing an entire gun takes about 4 or 5 days! The nicer the finish you want the longer it takes and that much more work involved in it. That said I would think it would be reasonable for someone to charge MUCH more (I think he told me that he charges $200 - $250) than the going rate is.
  3. A coworker recently got a Remington 1911 - he had a problem with the finish on the frame and was going to send it to Remington. I asked if he had trouble reassembling it and he did. I offered to make sure it was ok. It was the tightest bushing I have ever seen (ok, tried to turn)... but I was able to do it while he was trying to get the wench out of the box! I thought I was going to need to use it, so some are very, VERY tight... but his gun had never been fired.
  4. I am sure there are many good places but since you asked what I would do: I would buy the gun at D&T Arms (they are a TGO sponsor) or at the very least have it shipped to them. Retired Navy GMC (on here) is the owner. A guy I work with recently told me that he had found a particular 1911 at Academy, I asked D&T and he saved quite a bit on it!
  5. I DID get the 9L (5" barrel) and the .45 (4.5" barrel)... what I WOULD get would be a compact. I wont bother discussing caliber choice - its like an opinion (and we all know what opinion are like)!
  6. Warning: topic shift! Does 231 leave much resdue on the muzzle or on the fired brass? If so is it black or light gray in color?
  7. Apparently you need to delete some old PMs.
  8. Try this guy: Home He is a good guy, and very fair. He enjoys riffle work better but does mean that he would be able to fix yours AND he is fairly close to you.
  9. On this past Wednesday evening I compared my Colt Combat Commander to a Kimber of about the same size (sorry I dont know the model). They were practly identicial in size but the Kimber's grip was a bit thicker - more round. The Kimber fit my cousin better and my Colt him... try quite a few different brands to see which is best for you. All the way home all I could think of was why didn't I ask him if he wanted to trade.... I got the Colt for a very, VERY good deal. I love it and think it is a thing of beauty. It almost makes me ill thinking that I really should trade him.
  10. 20 years ago when I bought my first revolver I was told to sit in front of the TV and just pull the trigger, time after time. It does 2 things, 1) helps the action to smooth out and 2) builds the muscles in your forearm. As I was in the Navy at the time I could not just sit around pulling the trigger. A few years latter when I bought my second revolver (a S&W 686, to wear when I was being a reserve deputy sheriff) I took that advice - I could tell a huge difference in the triggers!
  11. Excellent! I would say kiss the gun and hug the wife - or, heck its Christmas - XOXO both of um!
  12. And to think - all I asked for was a Chrony chronograph (WalMart sells them and I read a few very good reviews on them)!
  13. I heard a friend of mine (who owns a gun store) tell someone who was looking for a part for a Taurus that it wasn't available aftermarket because of Taurus's lifetime warranty. I dont know if he was right or not but it makes sense to me.
  14. Sweet man, I do love a Sig! Haven't ever shot a 1911 style Sig, I would love to!
  15. I agree with Bassman, there is not a good range area, that I've been able to find. There are a couple of ranges, like the Montgomery County one, that you can shoot skeet or trap but that is NOT the same thing as shooing practice at a silhouette target, at a nearer distance, and not using bird shot.
  16. Congrats! I'm sure you will LOVE it!
  17. I would be happy too BUT you need to keep the camera thief away!
  18. Yeah, they really do look excellent!
  19. I was in the Wal Mart on Thompson Lane\Old Fort 2 weeks ago and they actually had rounds other than the 115 grn, FMJs. I said something about it and another customer standing there said that WM was going to start carrying a lot of different self-defense loads (and he said that hopefully they will be selling handguns by next year). I dont know anything about it but there WERE things rather than the FMJs.
  20. Sweet shooter, congrats!
  21. That grip sure does look nice compared to the one I have! I bet that thing feels really good in your hand!
  22. I can tell you what I did do! I had used M&P9L, XDM, and a FN something (all in 9 mm) at a local gun store. I fired all 3, side by side. I took the M&P home, the other 2 went back into the case. Everyone is different, all I did was to select the 1 that worked the best for me. I think all of them are comrable weapons (all polymer frames). I just took the one I did the best with; you pick the one that does the best for you.
  23. Just a thought as I dont have any personal experience on this but have you tried flushing the extractor? My Commander started having this problem and\or a FTE but after a copious amout of Break Free's Powder Blaster no more problem!
  24. I own a 686-2 4", bought it new in southern Mississippi. I was in the Navy at the time and a reserve deputy (the sheriff was an old state trouper so we had to carry a wheel gun). Its a wonderful firearm, due to the weight it is easily controlled even shooting the most potent loads! Newer models are 7 shots but the older ones are 6. Daddy O - if you have any specific questions, fire away (so to speak). If your interested in playing with one let me know.
  25. This was my experience with buying a used handgun ftf. Long story short: The dude told me out right "he was a fellon and a drug dealer and sells a hell of a lot of pot". With this information I was still not sure of buying the glock from him but a G19 for $225 I made the deal. As it turns out, I have a friend in the Blount County Sherrifs Dept and I asked him to run the numbers. He told me that if they came back as stolen or used in a crime he would have to confiscate it from me. I waited about a month and had the numbers run and as luck was on my side it came up clean. So you just never know. He still has a Sig Im wanting but he has not decided to come off it just yet. By the way I did get a bill of sale from him and did verify his ID. Did he let you get a copy of his drivers license, too? lol Seriously, I might have run the serial number first. And better him confiscate the gun than you get jammed up with it some how!!!
