Just to add to the mix - I have bought 2 (different) Browning Auto-5 12 gauge shotguns in the last year, each for under $500 (one was $300 from Gunbroker and the other $200 from Hero Gear in Winchester). Only thing is that some work is required to make them reliable enough to shoot - new springs and the like (not a surprise since one is circa WWII and the other early 50's). Of course finding things like pistol-grip stocks for them is another matter, entirely! I can't help it, I just LOVE these guns!!! One I would like to black-out and turn into a zombie killer. I know, its a sickness, somebody help me!

Shame on you! (it was pretty funny though!) Musicman... I'm not a machinist but if you can actually see ridges on the ramp I can't imagine polishing is going to help this to much. To polish is to smooth that which is already fairly good... if metal actually needs to be removed it might really be best to let S&W handle it. I own 2 M&Ps and both of mine are completely smooth (although they both still have some of the black color of the Melonite coating on the ramp). If you are interested I live very close, let me know and we can hook-up sometime and you can check mine out, if you want to.

Imbel FAL Crooked Front Sight
MarkInNashville replied to timthetoolman's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
2 things. If the gunsmith takes care of this and you would recommend him after all of this works-out I would like his name and number. I too have a knock-off FAL and you never can tell when you might need some help. Mine has an inch receiver also. If you ever figure-out anything with the magazine would you mind posting a pic of it? I have heard of bending the latching tab out some but I've never had any luck with that. -
One good tip for Revolver Cleaning
MarkInNashville replied to a topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I'm sorry but if the little lady can't get on-board with the smell of Hoppes you may need to think seriously about finding someone else! For those of you that, like me, actually enjoy that smell D&T Arms has vehicle air fresheners that look just like their bottle! I wonder if once it looses it's wonderful fragrance you could dip it in a bottle of #9 but I bet it would just disintegrate. -
One good tip for Revolver Cleaning
MarkInNashville replied to a topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
One tip (not about cleaning but revolvers, in general). Don't ever flip the cylinder of a revolver closed (as seen on TV), it will ultimately cause the crane to bend. -
While a firefighter I responded to a shed on fire... seems heat lamps were in use, according to the owner (although most people would call them grow lamps). Anyway there was quite a bit of handgun and riffle ammo involved. The biggest problem we had were the casings which came flying off at a pretty good speed once the powder cooked off. They didn't seem to have any real power but as Farmun said it was quite nerve-wracking!

I saw a couple of them at Guns For America (in Nashville) - http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&ved=0CEEQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FGunsForAmerica&ei=rFriUMC_OZOK9AS6gYGQBw&usg=AFQjCNGm8GRhL4hfe8xJtA72GQVkfoPFfQ&sig2=ROuEV7vUssrFqTfbm0cHgg&bvm=bv.1355534169,d.eWU 6 months ago, or so.

Give Bennie at the Lebanon Gun Shop a call (615-547-9600). He is an excellent shotty guy (and a damn good trap shooter, too)! One bit of advice that my father gave me (about operating the gun), when he passed his model '97 Winchester to me was - make damn sure to keep your hand WAY back... Being 12 years old I either forgot or didn't pay attention, I had to learn the hard way... the bolt is an excellent knuckle-flesh stripper, when pumping it!

I don't think I would put powder in anything but an approved container. The factory ones have conductive properties so static electricity cannot build up. Lots of non-conductive plastic could cause a problem. Just my $0.02 worth.
I heard that they microchip the guns, use RFID, and scan your face when you are purchasing the firearms. They put the data in a special database that is sold for marketing purposes. An extra copy is delivered to Feinstein and the Brady group so that when they come for the guns...they will know exactly where to go. Bloomberg machines serve double duty to track all owners in real time. The gun's receivers are made from grade BB chinese pot metal and the wood made from a 2x4 soaked in dioxin. But other than that they are 100% like any other gun sent via a distributor.
WTF??? Dioxin??? I heard it was hexavalent chromium, or maybe that was DDT. .

Have You Entered, Sig Sauer November Sweepstakes
MarkInNashville replied to runco's topic in Handguns
Its that time again, reminder to enter Sig Sauer's sweepstakes. This month is a 1911 POW-MIA pistol. I actually seen one of these earlier in the week at a Pawn Shop in Maryville. http://www.sigsauer....weepstakes.aspx
Thanks for the heads up! -
I have 2 sets of the same sights (except for S&W M&Ps) they are great, You will love them!

I am just now aware of the "no reloads policy." I am disappointed but that won't stop me of coming in (just because I'm not buying anything doesn't mean I don’t go into other business establishments). The selection, prices and people will decide if I come back.... For what it's worth, the people are already impressing me (even if you don't give me free ammo LOL)! Good luck in your new business!

Excellent! Damn you must shoot a LOT!

Big K makes good sense to me (I do hope that if there is a hole in your theory someone will point it out, though)! I certainly understand dlm37015's stance too - if I were in his shoes I would have the same policy. In fact, I do different things at work with PCs and components than I do personally just because I "don't want to take a chance".

At least the 100 round box is cheaper than 2 x 50 rnd boxes! I have seen a high round count "value" box that costs more than if you bought that many rounds at 50 rnds a box!!!

Sweet setups all! I bought a house and moved recenttly (where I used and old bit of counter top sitting on an old sink). I just bought the lumber to build my new bench today. I am thinking about a bit larger top this time... maybe 3' deep by 8' long! Hey, what's the point of a garage if not for bench space?!? I will post pix once I have something to take a pic of excely a pile of 2" x's
