  1. Speaking of Yankees One morning 3 South Georgia good old boys and 3 Yankees were in a ticket line at the Albany train station heading to Athens for a big football game. The 3 Northerners each bought a ticket and watched as the 3 Southerners bought just one ticket among them. "How are the 3 of you going to travel on one 1 ticket?" asked one of the Yankees. "Watch and learn" answered one of the boys from the South. When the 6 travelers boarded the train, the 3 Yankees sat down, but the 3 Southerners crammed into a bathroom together and closed the door. Shortly after the train departed, the conductor came around to collect tickets. He knocked on the bathroom door and said, "tickets please." the door opened just a crack and a single arm emerged with a ticket in hand. The Conductor took it and moved on. The Yankees saw this happen and agreed it was quite a clever idea.. Indeed, so clever that they decided to do the same thing on the return trip and save some money. That evening after the game when they got to the Charlotte train station, they bought a single ticket for the return trip while to their astonishment the 3 Southerners didn't buy even 1 ticket. "How are you going to travel without a ticket?" asked one of the perplexed Yankees. "Watch and learn", answered one of the Southern boys. When they boarded the train the 3 Northerners crammed themselves into a bathroom and the 3 Southerners crammed themselves into the other bathroom across from it. Shortly after the train began to move, one of the Southerners left their bathroom and walked quietly over to the Yankee's bathroom. He knocked on the door and said "ticket please". There's just no way on God's green earth to explain how the Yankees won the war...
  2. These folks are in Knoxville, if you're in that area at least you can escape the shipping....taxes, not so much. These folks are also in TN Champion's Choice - Contact Us
  3. OK, but can you find a reliable Harley for $3K? I rest my case.
  4. Oh yeah, that is cool, I'm game! I can see myself hitting those rocks or losing a ski though.
  5. Plant a pig Please donate to your local “Plant A Pig Foundation” today. Not tax deductible, but well worth the effort. In Spain , at Seville some local people found a way to stop the construction of another mosque in their town. They buried a pig on the site, making sure this would be known by the local press. Islamic rules forbid erecting a Mosque on “pig soiled ground”. The Muslins had to cancel the project…this land had been sold to them by government officials… No protests were needed by the local people … and it worked!! Not dummies the Spaniards. They found a solution !!! No protests needed! In Texas they have an over abundance of feral pigs. They could send them all over the country and just plant them everywhere! After all contaminated soil would surely drift and they could create new job programs by having soil testers to determine where contaminated soil existed. Of course, high on the mountain tops of the Rockies or other mountain ranges they might find some uncontaminated soil, but then building a mosque there would pose some problem. Americans put on your thinking caps and let find a solution to this problem of a spreading menace to the American way of life! If pigs are the answer let’s do it! Your Committee for the Betterment of America Let’s keep this going. Send it on!
  6. Ha, I like em. But, choices/options are nice Try putting your cursor on the right side to scroll.
  7. 40-50mpg is about the best you will get from a +500cc bike. The shaft is virtually maintenance free. Might check on valve adj. cost and ease. I had a NX250 that got 70mpg, ran 60 on the interstate and fun to ride but I also have a FJR, 43-48mpg so coming off the FJR onto the NX left me feeling ......unfulfilled. Though I loved the mpg's and I could get out of traffic quick enough, the kick in the butt is what it lacked. I sold it and got a KLX650 and gained 3mpg's over the FJR but got a torque monster instead . Just saying, at $3.00 a gallon for Reg, and you'll be putting Premium in a bike, don't ignore smaller bikes IF you're looking for MPG's and commuting. This VStar 650 would be a great choice either way. Stick with the Jap bikes for ease of maintenance, reliability and parts availability. Be a defensive rider and keep your distance. Good luck.
  8. Another one in the Hendersonville area - nrange - Home nice folks, cool range.
  9. Good info, similar opinions and some shops I will add to my visit list. I like G&L, and Outpost Armory. G&L needs to be the size of the Outpost or the Franklin shop. The Franklin store was where I bought my SR9. I shopped around and they did have and give me the best deal, I even haggled them down. The person I dealt with was very personable and was happy with my purchase. Speciality Arms has a good selection and shop. The East Side Shop was a place I felt welcome at, the Rabbi and I talked like old friends. Small but efficient. Another small but efficient gun shop is nrange - Home very nice people and a cool range Worst, Gun City (seems to be unanimous). What was once an enjoyable experience has left me smelling like cigarette smoke rather than gunpowder smoke. I refer to their range as the "dungeon". I bought a Colt Trooper.357 in 1982 from them, sad to see the deterioration.
  10. Great, be sure to post updates. Hey, build threads are cool to watch hint..hint.
  11. I copied this and saved it in my files for future reference. At the time I was shopping for one but ended up getting a S&W .22A. I think this came off the THR forum. Credit goes to the writer who I failed to save. Pre MARK I/Standard: Drift adjustable sights and tapered barrel. No last shot bolt hold open. Bolt can be manually locked back using the safety. Heel mounted magazine latch. 9 round magazine. MARK I: Heavy tapered or bull barrel and target sights. Trigger has adjustable stops. No last shot bolt hold open. Bolt can be manually locked back using the safety. Heel mounted magazine latch. 9 round magazine. There are also "old and "new" model MKIs (and standards). The A100 frame was introduced in 1971 and the magazine follower button moved to left side. MARKII: Standard has drift adjustable sights and tapered barrel. Target Models have heavy tapered or bull barrel and target sights (also the trigger has adjustable stops). Trigger pin retention method changed. Last shot bolt hold open via added bolt stop. Safety no longer used to lock bolt back. Heel mounted magazine latch. New 10 round magazine. MARK III: Standard has drift adjustable sights and tapered barrel. Target Models have heavy tapered or bull barrel and target sights (also the trigger has adjustable stops). There is also a Hunter version with fluted bull barrel. All Mark III pistols with adjustable sights are drilled and tapped for a Weaver-style scope base. Last shot bolt hold open via bolt stop Loaded chamber indicator added. Magazine disconnector added. Internal lock added. Magazine latch moved to left side of the frame behind trigger guard. Moved latch requires different style 10 round magazine. There are also some differences with the early pre-MK1 pistols (there was no Standard moniker until the MK I was introduced) and latter production ones. Rifling twist rates were changed during the production of the MARK II to the current 1 in 16". There are also some differences in the bolt ears on MK II and III pistols. I also believe there have been some bull barrels made with drift adjustable sights fitted. 22/45: They incorporate a different grip angle, polymer frame with the magazine latch located on the left side behind the trigger guard (both version 22/45s have a magazine base plate different from the steel frame versions). The original 22/45 upper is very similar to the MARK II; having different markings and possibly differences in the lug area. The new 22/45 has a redesigned frame (less bulky than the earlier versions) and incorporates the MARK III magazine disconnect and internal lock. The upper also has the MARK III loaded chamber indicator. Some parts will interchange. Accuracy is about the same for all the MARKs; varying more pistol to pistol rather than MARK series. It would take a lot of shooting to degrade the accuracy of these pistols, so old ones should be fine (abuse aside). I like the last shot hold open, but dislike the loaded chamber indicator and magazine safety; so I prefer the Mark II version. I also like the MARK I and have one made in 1953 that is a great shooter. I have no love for the MARK III.
  12. G&L is $10.00 to shoot, cheapest I've found and they have memberships too. I was hoping that with the past surge in firearms sales, since Hussein got elected, that the Reloading Bench in Mt. Juliet would enlarge with a range, and that shop in LaVergne would be a good site for a range too, (Speciality Arms)?
  13. (I think this is "on-topic" but I didn't see a better topic area where to start this thread, feel free to re-locate if needed.) I like to know where you guys and gals practice at, a local gun shop that has a range, a separate outdoor site or an indoor range or your back yard/private property? Add links if you can. Are the locations different between what you are using, handgun verses a rifle? My closest range is Stones River on Hobson Pike or Gun City on Murfreesboro Rd. but my favorite site is Guns & Leather in Greenbrier. A little drive but I haven't found a better place or price for shooting my handguns. They do have a new store in Hendersonville but have yet used this range. I really don't mind driving to a good site so I was curious of other ranges in TN. What is it that you like about it? What is your average time spent shooting? How often do you go to the range and or you have a membership to a range? BTW, I envy you guys who have your own property out of the way from the complainers. 14. Here for the info and to see what other Tennesseans are up to. I snoop around other forums and was surprised to find TGO. Great! Hand gunning is my usual fall-winter hobby and motorcycling takes my time in sunny warmer weather. I own a SR9, S&W.22A, Ruger SBH .44mag. and a few others and one antique shotgun. Thanks for a TN forum, looks real nice
