Welcome aboard!!!

Ok I'm new around here and obviously new to carrying and such...but what the heck does that entail?
-
I stopped in Gun City in Nashville and took a look at what they have to offer. They certainly didn't have a huge selection by no means but one of the guys in there named Larry was very helpful. He basically said the same thing as you Strickj...he said just bring in my pistol and I could try some on to see how they fit me and my pistol.

My apologies...I just realized this thread should have been posted in the "Accessories" forum. Sorry folks for not paying attention!!!

Yeah I've read a lot of negative stuff too. I'm working it every chance I get. For now though a new pistol is not in the budget. Of course come May I may do my part to stimulate the economy. "Honey it's my duty to support my country."

Curious on the recommendation and price range of a good holster? I've read that an IWB is usually best for concealment but can be uncomfortable if you have a few extra pounds. I'd like to get an IWB & an OWB so I can switch depending on my dress. I was just curious what a good holster runs and which are better...ie leather, kydex, etc. I have a Llama micro-max pistol. Basically a .380 in a compact 1911 style. I've heard plenty of bad stuff about these pistols but it was given to me and it's all I've got for now. It's been fine so far w/ a couple hundred rounds that I've put through it myself. I figured I'd mention what I'll be carrying since a holster for one of these may be harder to find than for a more main stream pistol.

Welcome!!! S.A.T.S. (Small Arms Training School) 615.794.3333. Jim Mauth is the point of contact. I believe March 22nd is their next class date and from what I heard it was filling up pretty quick. $80 for the class and they have loaner guns if you don't have one.

I'm only a week into my wait....ok it's only been 4 days since I did my finger printing but who's counting.

Info on a school in Williamson County
BigDaddyx4 replied to BigDaddyx4's topic in Training Discussions
Just a quick update...I finally had my class last Saturday and my finger printing was done on Thursday. I was pleased with my experience w/ S.A.T.S. The instructors were very experienced and sounded like they had a lot of street experience from LE and military work and/or training. There were a bunch of us students crammed into a small room but the instructors kept it light and enjoyable. On the range there was an instructor for every 2-3 students. I would definately recommend these guys for their carry class and I'm trying to convince my wife to take it to get her permit. There were approximately 5 women in the class that I was in and I believe only 2 of them were there w/ their husbands. As of right now they do not offer any advanced training courses as far as I'm aware of. -

Thanks guys I appreciate all the input!!! I definately want to figure out what works best for me with both eyes open. I've shot plenty of long guns and I just closed my left eye. Then I tried shooting skeet and couldn't hit anything. Did some asking and realized what my problem was. I definately feel that I need both my eyes in any kind of combat situation.

What's the best way to handle it pertaining to handgun self defense? I'm new to handguns so is it just a matter of "training" my eyes (if that's possible) or training myself to shoot left handed (since in my case I'm right handed)?

I second (third) that....I've just become a Jags fan.

Sunday, 01/06/08 <!--ARTICLE HEADLINE-->Gun ordinance pits subdivisions against Nolensville's rural areas Officials hope to please both sides, delay their vote until after workshop By CHARLES BOOTH Staff Writer <!--ARTICLE BODY TEXT--> NOLENSVILLE — Neighbors in the Ballenger Farms subdivision heard gunfire. Then a cat was found dead. The calls came into Town Hall, and before long, an ordinance restricting the use of guns went before Nolensville's Board of Mayor and Aldermen. <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=305 align=left border=0><TBODY><TR><TD></TD><TD width=10 rowSpan=3></TD></TR><TR><TD><CENTER><SCRIPT language=JavaScript> OAS_AD('300x250_1'); </SCRIPT> </CENTER></TD></TR><TR><TD></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> But for many of the community's rural residents, some who've lived for years on several acres of remote land, shooting guns is a way of life. They, too, placed calls to Town Hall, and now, in effort to please both sides, Nolensville's board decided Thursday night to do more research and revisions before passing the ordinance. "I don't see any reason why I can't still target practice (on my land) or shoot a coyote," resident Harold Shafer said. He's lived for decades on a rural, 200-foot-wide piece of land that has a wooded area behind his house. Under the originally proposed ordinance, which would have restricted shooting in areas less than 100 feet from a road or another property, Shafer wouldn't have much space left to target practice. "That means I have a very narrow little strip down the center where I can stand and fire a gun," he said. Town officials decided to postpone voting on the ordinance until February. In the meantime, board members plan to look at what other communities are doing in regard to firearms. The board looked briefly Thursday night at the firearms ordinances of towns in California and Washington, discussing ideas to limit shooting to certain areas, such as subdivisions, instead of instituting a town ban. "It looks like it's possible to pass an ordinance where you have no-discharge areas and discharge areas," town attorney Bob Notestine said. Alderman Jimmy Alexander said a similar policy is in place in Davidson County. "They have a geographic area, the (urban services district) boundary, where it's unlawful to fire a weapon," Alexander said. "Outside the USD, you can do it except at night." Alderman Ken Thomas said it's important the revised ordinance lets people know what exactly a firearm is. Do pellet guns and slingshots count? "It might be helpful for us to have some definitions in our ordinance," he said. "What constitutes a firearm?" The board plans to schedule a workshop later this month for members to revise the ordinance. The updated document will have its second reading in February, when it could become a law if it gets enough votes.

These are two questions that are on their membership application. DO YOU OWN ANY RECREATIONAL VEHICLES ? (IE BOAT, RV, GOCART) IF SO WOULD YOU BE OPPOSED TO UTILIZING SUCH VEHICLES FOR TRAINING AND OPERATIONS ? Gocart?!?!?! Maybe they'll armour them up and be like little warrior clown cars when their fireteams roll out of them.

Awesome!!! First I get a sweet badge...now I get some camo face paint. It just keeps getting better and better. How many posts does it take before I'm shown the secret hand-shake and issued my ninja suit?

Howdy from a fellow newbie.

That's awesome!! The time you spend w/ her on the range will teach her so much more than just how to shoot.
