  1. strange our old modem had a battery but when the power goes out we loose everything
  2. we have it on a battery for when the power does go out but it does not matter cause none of it works anyway, the phone signal comes through the cable line and gets converter from analog to digital or might be digital to analog i cant remember, anyway because of this when the power goes out we loose internet and tv and when we loose those we loose phone too
  3. we have comcast tv/internet/phone bundle and when the power goes out we loose all of it
  4. my bad i didnt mean to confuse you, sorry about that, i will try better next time :)
  5. i answered that, i said no you HAVE do it from comcast.com its not on the router what so ever, i have gone through all the settings and unless they hid it on there some where, i dont think its there
  6. no it is not there, you have to go to comcast.com and do it from there   edit here is where it is at when you login to comcast.com and choose users and preferences   http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c294/luke9511/comcastwifi.png
  7. makes me want little caesars 5 buck pizza or deepdish pizza
  8. i used a cheap convict oven once and it was meh was to crispy for me
  9. we just got a new comcast modem/router the thing is bigger than the one we had and i checked it and i do see a public wifi from comcast but its not coming from us and i do not see an option to turn it off so we must have been lucky   EDIT found it, its real small text and not real easy to find, i will disable it now   EDIT2 looks like there is nothing to diable, just text telling me how good it is and a place to download a app to find other networks for me to use strange   also this could lead to legal issues for the owner of said modem/router, if someone accessed the public network and accessed something illegal, they could trace it back to the owner and think it was him/her/it and make their life a living hell
  10. does this work well on plastic? i am wanting to paint the plastic parts on my track as they are badly faded but dont know how well it works on plastic
  11. right now i just do it as a hobby cause i like taking things apart and trying to fix things, my main career is in computers but i wish i could use my skills to make a little extra cash on the side while i look for full time work, but with the economy the way it is everyone in their mother is posting online doing the same thing, which basiclly floods the market, making that type of work harder, but thats a topic for a different post
  12. was digging through junk looking for my nes and sega genesis and found a radio shack soldering iron with a near perfect tip going to switch the tip with the one with the stand
  13. it works but if you look at the tip on mine you can tell it needs to be replaced and some people have modified these with a pedal activated pump to suck the solder dont know how well it works though
  14. i like learning new things!
  15. ok i want one!
  16. that sounds like the type of tool i need, though i do sometimes just tape the part on the board, solder it and cut the legs off or cut the legs first just depends on how i feel like doing it :P
  17. this is what i have currently http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062750 http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062731 th desoldering iron is ok but you have to replace the tip cause they are junk, now if there was a better tip from another desoldering iron that would work with this one i would buy it in a heart beat
  18. just placed my orders cant wait for them to get here!   http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c294/luke9511/order1.png   http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c294/luke9511/order2.png
  19. i dont do a whole lot of soldering but when i do i use my cheapy ratshack soldering iron and desoldering iron though i plan to invest in something MUCH better in the future, i know about digikey, im getting ready to order a mosfet from there for the tv im fixing,   i am also order 0.5mm 60/40 rosin core solder, i have the thick stuff and after using it a couple of times and watching some youtube videos on soldering i have learned i was doing it wrong the whole time and it makes me feel bad, im hoping i might be able to fix a laptop motherboard i tried to repair a while back with this new solder but time will tell   also imo soldering and electronics repair is starting to become atleast in my eyes a lost art but thats just me
  20. since radio shack does not carry electronic repair stuff any more anyone know of a place in nashville that sells stuff like solder, resistors, transistors, capcictors etc?
  21. only issues are light guns dont work on lcd's and there is noticeable input lag with older consoles
  22. trust me for some people (like myself!) CRTs ar great, they are also very useful if you collect old arcade games
  23.   i went to itt tech and i like to fix things myself helps me learn more about how to take things apart and fix them   nice i love linux, i plan to get the Linux+ cert sometime in the near future
  24. Anyone else here do soldering or fix electronics? I'm doing as more a hobby right now myself and am currently trying to fix the tv in the picture, it's a CRT HDTV goes up to 1080i I think which is fine as I plan to use it with my older video game consoles
