  1. FWIW, the Colt was worth it and it is a legit 6720. :) Brandon
  2. Ha-ha! I'll grab one this evening. Brandon
  3. Thanks, everyone!!! Picked it up today and DMark helped me put it through its paces. It shoots great. Very straight... Just have to work on the shooter now. Ha-ha! DMark, cannot thank you enough for your help today. Colt, can't thank you enough for a great rifle!!! I'll post a pic or three tomorrow. Brandon
  4. Thanks, Dolomite.  This should be a straight-up 6720, but I'll double check before pulling the trigger tomorrow.   Brandon
  5. Thanks, John.  I'm really looking forward to putting this thing through it's paces tomorrow.  I even took a half-day off work.  :D Brandon
  6. Bbl?  Barrel?   The Colt is 1:7 with chromed barrel and chamber and I believe bolt.  The S&W is not.  They have some type of proprietary lining they're doing now.  They dropped melonite a few years ago and won't say much about what they're using now.   Brandon
  7. Thanks.  I hope to have pics tomorrow of my 6720.  It won't be nice and shiny, though... I'll be putting at least 150 rounds through it.  Heading straight to the range after I pick it up!  :D   Brandon
  8. Yeah... I feel confident with just $125 difference, I'll regret it if I don't go with the Colt.     It's great, though, that I have two excellent guns to choose from.  I will probably own it for many, many years, anyway.  For some reason, I just don't like to sell guns (or guitars) once I have them.  In fact, I don't think I've ever sold one of either in the 19 years I've been playing guitar and just as many owning guns.  Anyway...   Can't wait for Tuesday!  I'm even taking a half-day from work.  Haha! Brandon
  9. Hi all,   Would you grab a lightweight Colt over a S&W M&P 15 for $125 difference?  Doesn't seem too bad to me and potentially worth it.   The Colt is lighter by almost half a pound, I think (which is good for my wife, too), has a chromed BCG, chamber, barrel, and is magnetic particle tested.  The S&W is cheaper, but still a great gun.  It only has a chromed firing pin.   Either would probably serve my purposes well, of which is essentially punching paper and maybe home defense.  $125 for the Colt for the extra features, plus the possibility of a better resale if it comes down to it seems like not a ton of cash.   What do you guys think? Brandon
  10. Thanks for all of the replies, everyone!  I'm now searching for triggers and reloading tips.  :D  Hoping to make case prep as quick and easy as possible.  That will take some investment, but well worth it, I think.     BigK, I had the same thought!  You seemed very familiar to me, too.  We'll have to figure that out sometime.   I wish I could go with you, musicman!  I have family coming in for the state tournaments.  :)   Brandon
  11. Ha!  I don't think I'm tacticool enough.  :)   We need to shoot again soon, BigK.  :)   Brandon
  12. Hi all,   Picking up my first AR15 on Tuesday... grabbed a S&W M&P 15 Sport 2 while Goodlettsville Gun Shop had them on sale for $675 out the door.  Pretty killer deal, IMHO, and a hat-tip to musicman for the heads-up on the deal.   What would you guys tell a noob, such as myself, about ARs just getting started?  This topic isn't meant to get too serious, I'm just looking for tips and pointers dealing with any part of an AR from cleaning to accessory recommendations and holding it.  Anything.   :) Brandon
  13.   Thanks!  So far, so good with the drum.  I've found it to be consistent and reliable with Titegroup for .45 ACP so far.  Haven't loaded too many rounds, maybe 30, but they were test rounds so I was checking every other load or so.  Same reading on the frankford arsenal digital scale every time.     Awesome!  Thank you.  I'll check it out.   Brandon
  14. Hi all,   I know the auto drum is fairly new, but I wanted to see if any of you guys had started to experiment with loads for .380 and powders that meter well in the auto drum.  I've started loading .45 as my first load, but .380 is a different beast and makes me a little nervous... definitely less room for error with these little guys.   I've got some Titgroup that I'm using in .45 (my gun seems to like 4.2gr behind a Bayou Bullets 230gr LRN), but not sure I want to use Titegroup in .380... thinking about going with a slower powder.  I'm going to test the auto drum tonight to see how well it will meter the smaller loads, and will load on the light side, anyway, but I thought I'd ask here.  I wouldn't mind using a different powder if it will mean more consistent loads, even with paper punching ammo.   Thanks! Brandon
  15. Have you guys ever shot at Bubbling Springs?   I do most of my camping over that way and have thought about making a trip to Bubbling Springs on my way to camp with friends. Brandon
  16. Well, I feel as though I should update this thread... I was apparently very wrong about my interpretation of this guy in my last experience.  I was at the same range yesterday and the same range officer saw me picking up my brass, and asked me if I was reloading.  When I told him yes, he offered for me to use the range's equipment to pick it up!  I thought that was very nice of him and definitely felt like I should update this thread.  Not sure what the deal was the first time, I'm assuming either he had a headache or someone next to me was concerning him... haha!     Brandon
  17. Absolutely.  I ended up buying a few pieces of reloading equipment.  I'm going to slowly build up my setup over a little bit of time, and start buying in bulk.  :) Brandon
  18. I thought so, but wanted to confirm.  :) Brandon
  19. Are you casting your own bullets, Caster?  That almost feels goofy to ask.  Haha!   Brandon
  20. Thank you, Caster!  I was already planning on using the Lee deluxe dies.  I'll grab a bulge buster kit, too.   Brandon
  21.   Any tips or hints on reloading .380? Brandon
  22. I just have to say real quick that I read this as "I have been loading for 40 years."  And I thought "Dang, he's a LOT older than he looks!  Did he start when he was 5 or something?"     Thanks for all of your feedback, musicman.  I'll see you soon.  :)   Brandon
  23. I'd be curious to know how they turn out, too.   :)   They don't seem to have any more in stock... do you mind if I ask how much they cost? Brandon
  24. Thanks for the reply. That makes sense. I may grab both sets of dies (planning on getting Lee deluxe kits that include the crimping die) and learn on .45, switch to the .380 after some guided loading on the .45. Thanks for the reply! Brandon
  25. I believe I'll save a little bit of money, but I really just want to know how to do it and understand firearms a bit better in the end.  I don't shoot much at all compared to most (I go to the range on average probably once a month... for now... that may go up soon as my price per round goes down :) ), so the minor investment into a Lee Classic Turret Press and the associated reloading gear seems to me to be a good investment into knowledge at the least.  :)   I just mounted it to a 2x10 today.  :D  Will have to get a set of dies soon.  HUGE car repair bill has set me back a bit for now, but I'll eventually get what I need.  I will probably start with .380 dies and then get my .45 dies.  We'll see.  :) Thanks, again, for all of the replies!   Brandon
