Based on what I read on another forum, the primary purpose of the decocker is to allow the gun to be safely reholstered after it has been drawn. It probably wouldn't matter on a side of hip OWB holster, but a back of hip reholstering a single action handgun with a 5lb trigger would be a little too risky for me. But as zybysco said, for self defense, I'd look elsewhere anyway. As for the trigger itself, it felt a LOT better than most guns I handled at the NRA convention and about as good as guns costing several times more.

For what it's worth, here's a way to deactivate the decocker. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_5_36/157293_.html&page=1 However, I'd have to say that the risk of the decocker being accidentally depressed would be nearly zero, at least how I would carry it. It took maybe 10 pounds of pressure and the decocker is not in a place that is likely to get pressed once it's holstered.

Beauty is obviously in the eye of the beholder. I thought this was a nice looking gun when I actually held it in my hand. It comes in black, if the tan color is the problem.

They said a compact version would be coming out late this year, but it would only be a little smaller. I think he said 3/4 inch shorter and a shorter grip. It would be 12+1.

Has anyone shot this gun? I saw it at the NRA SHOW and loved it. It has a unique decocker/safety that I really liked. (My first attempt to send a photo with tapatalk :)

NRA 2015 Annual Meetings and Exhibits, Nashville TN
jgradyc replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
Only at Taurus, I think. It's through a gun store in Bardsville, KY, not directly from Taurus. It'll be shipped to a LGS in near me. The guns aren't in stock, so shipment was estimated at 60-90 days. I'm positive you can't buy at a few other places because I asked. You can buy accessories... safes, cases, belts, etc. -

I stopped by the Taurus booth and bought a Taurus G2 Millenium PT111 for $199. The LCP, PT22, and 709 were all $199. My buddy bought a PT92SS for less than $400... $380, I think. They won't be shipped until June, but still... it's worth the wait. -
Has there ever been a case of a Tennessee HCP holder being prosecuted or having the HCP revoked due to carrying in a banned location in Tennessee? I'm talking about legal, HCP handgun carry in all other respects except for the location itself... gun buster sign, school, parks, etc. From what I've heard, the worst that has happened is that the individual has been asked to leave. (Excluding airports and courthouses) Can anyone offer any insight on this question?

That's a beautiful bike.

It took a lot not to whip someone's ass today

I was in a retirement community meeting a couple years ago and one of the audience got super angry with the speaker. I spoke up to defuse the situation and got a dirty look, but that stopped it. Afterwards, I talked with the speaker and he said he sees this all the time. A lot of these older folks are on pain meds and other drugs. Between the pain of their illness and the lack of inhibitions caused by the meds, they sometimes go ballistic. As others said, the guy was crazy for some reason or other because no sane, sober person would do that. -
I have Linux Mint 17 on one laptop and Windows 10 Technical Preview on the other. The Windows Laptop has... Windows 10 Chrome Freeplane LibreOffice DropBox Pro No virus software. If I get a virus, I'll just do a clean install of Windows 10. The install was pretty fast, as I recall. Windows 10 is a big improvement over 8.1. You can completely ignore the Metro apps if you like.

I have used Turbotax Home and Business for years. It's $99. If you don't need to file Schedule C, there are cheaper versions.

My neighbor bought a Lorex system. I think the Q See is made by the same company. My neighbor LOVES his system, especially the ability to access the live feeds on his smart phone. My impression is less favorable. The system had 8 cameras, but it was limited to how many could be recorded at high res at a time. I think he could get two set for high res and the rest had to be set at low res in order to record them all. The wide angle cameras made everything more than 20 feet away pretty blurry. You could tell if it was a car or a pickup at his driveway, but that was about all. As far as identifying a person, forget about it unless he walked up to the camera and mugged for it from less than 20 feet away. In short, it seemed like a waste of money to me. Perhaps there is some value to being able to see all those locations when he's home. Of course, he could just look out the window...

Has anyone heard of this? The article claims there are three terrorist training camps in Tennessee. https://bradleycountynews.wordpress.com/2015/02/15/tennessee-terror-camps-well-positioned-to-strike-key-cities/

My wife heard one this morning while I was out hiking Beaman Park. She said it sounded like a tree branch hitting the house.

I stand corrected on the starvation diet comment. I searched PubMed and couldn't find anything definitive about VLCD (very low calorie diets) other than it was extremely effective in reversing Type 2 diabetes. The only negative comments I found on the internet were not sourced, so I couldn't confirm them. Best of luck with your diet. Now go exercise some!

I didn't anticipate my car being completely coated in ice this morning. Tomorrow, I'll de-ice it and put an old sleeping bag over the windshield and drivers side door to keep it from icing over again. I don't need to go anywhere, so I don't plan on driving, but I want the car ready to go in case I need to get out for some reason. The power hasn't gone out yet, but I anticipate that will happen once the temps drop into the single digits.

How to mount a handgun under a dash or desk
jgradyc posted a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Here's an easy way to mount a handgun (or even a shotgun) under a table or desk. Get a neodymium magnet with a countersunk hole in it, like these. http://www.kjmagnetics.com/products.asp?cat=173 I use the ones that are rectangular 1"x1/2"x1/8" rated to hold 9 lbs. Cover the magnet with shrink wrap, shrink it, cut a hole in the shrinkwrap over the countersink hole, put the rubber back, and use a screw to mount the magnet under the table. Then, pull the rubber shrinkwrap back over the head of the screw. (This keeps the metal of the magnet or the screw from scratching your firearm.) Attach the handgun gangster style by the slide so you won't hit it with your knees. Alternately, you can mount it hanging down if that works better for your location. One of these magnets will hold a handgun, but it you want it to be secure enough that your knee won't inadvertently knock it loose, you'll want to use a second magnet to make it a double thickness. The magnet does lose a little of its power when covered with shrinkwrap. Whatever you do, don't run the screw completely through your dining room table! You might want to hang it without a round in the chamber until you're certain that it's not going to get dislodged by the dog or some other movement. -
It's forecast to be -8 degrees in Nashville Wednesday night. I've checked the antifreeze in my vehicles. I plan to leave the faucets on a drip in the bathrooms. I've topped off the gas tank in my car. I anticipate a power outage, but we have propane heat. What else do I need to think about?

I asked my wife about this before posting. She is a nurse with a specialty in wellness. A 700 calorie a day diet is not good for your health. It's probably okay for a week or so, but after that, there are potential problems. You are burning muscle, not just fat and the body needs muscle to burn fat. Over time, your metabolism can slow down drastically because it thinks you are in a survival mode. When your metabolism slows down, you burn less calories than a normal person and the slow down can be permanent AND cause health issues. Look at what has happened to some of the contestants in the biggest loser. You can do damage to your organs because they aren't getting enough nutrients. You're putting yourself into ketosis, which is basically poisoning the body. That's what happens to diabetics when their insulin is out of control. Fasting for a few days in a row is okay, but it's not a healthy way to lose weight over the long term. As far as exercise is concerned, if your doctor tells you that you can't exercise, you need to find another doctor. If you have a medical problem, hospitals have rehab centers that can teach you what you can and cannot do. Basically, if you can walk, you can exercise. If you can walk up stairs, you can exercise. If you can lift a gallon of milk, you can exercise. Yesterday, I worked out on the stairclimber at the rec center. I climbed the height of the Empire State Building. I'm 67. If I can do it, you can do it. Sorry to be so blunt, but if I saw someone carrying a weapon in a dangerous holster, I'd be just as quick to point it out. It's in everyone's best interests. Good luck on losing weight.

I know we have a thread on good post-apocalypse fiction books, but I'd like to read more books on what might happen if our power grid was disrupted. I'm more interested in realistic possible scenarios of what might happen if the power grid went down and stayed down. I'm thinking of getting the nonfiction book A Nation Forsaken. Has anyone read any good nonfiction on the power grid collapse scenarios?

Have you considered running a dehumidifier?

Gotta love PhotoShop. Can anyone recommend an IWB holster for this?

The next time someone brags about a 45 ACP, just show them this.

Any word on what she was carrying? All I've seen is that it was a small caliber handgun. I'd take a wild guess that it was an LCP or similar. Also, we agree that she shouldn't be carrying in her purse, but recognizing some women would disregard this advice and carry in the purse anyway, what would be the best approach for purse carry? I'd think it would be a handgun in a level three retention holster velcroed in place so it would always present at the same position, but I'd like to see what others think.
