I can't comment first hand on the bikes you have chosen, but I'd suggest that if you're looking at the KLR, you might want to consider the Kawasaki Versys instead. For a little extra weight, you get a lot more power. I have a 2009 Versys. I'm not a big guy and I no longer like to ride fast, but it has enough power for me. Top speed is probably 110 or so, but it feels under control in the 80s. I seldom ride faster than 70. The VROD would be uncomfortable on gravel, much less dirt roads. On the other hand, the KLR isn't really a twisty road machine. So it looks like you'll have to make some compromises in where you ride. Here's a thought... why not buy both? If I wanted a dirt road/off road bike and a twisty highway bike, that's what I'd do.

I agree as well. What is that pocket gun with the safety he is carrying?

I believe that Obamacare was designed to fail. It was never intended to actually work. Once it failed, the next option would be universal care. The problem is that Obamacare started failing before it even got off the ground.

Actually, if you replace the bullet holes with the three stars, this would be pretty good.

That frame job looks really nice. I've always hated the Glock frame, too. Glock: Put ze fingers here. Me: I don't want to put my fingers like that. It doesn't fit. Glock: Put ze fingers here. Me: Argh! ... (Picks up M&P shield...) Next, you need to Cerakote the slide to match the gray in the grip. That would look really nice.

I need honest opinion related to HCP Class
jgradyc replied to MrsMonkeyMan2500's topic in Women's Perspectives
A good HCP class is great information. My instructor covered things like situational awareness, what the law says about shooting home invaders, etc. That's good stuff to know. Oh, and take the shooting test with a gun that's easy to shoot. You'll pass even with a tiny LCP or P3-AT, but why make it any harder than it has to be? I carry a P3-AT, but I took the test with a full size Walther P99... a super sweet gun to shoot... for me. Shoot with whatever fits your hand and you can fire accurately. The shooting test was so easy that the hardest part was reloading the magazine. You'll be fine. -
I just tried to renew again. This time when I got to the "Oops, something went wrong" screen, I clicked on the renew link. It took me into the screen to purchase either the 6 month or one year membership. I selected one year and it went through. Let's see if that works. I'll check back in tomorrow.

I'm not impressed with home alarm monitoring services. It takes too long for a response in my area. My suggestions are: A home security alarm mounted inside/outside with monitors on the doors and windows. Those things are outrageously loud indoors and one mounted in the attic will alert neighbors. You can get one that send an alert to your mobile phone. Signs mounted front and back of home saying you have a security system Signs that you have video surveillance. Depending on your lot, a locking gate to prevent vehicles from approaching your house.

The information below is from a post I made here a year or two ago. It explains how to make super thin pocket holsters that won't shift in your pocket. I use it for a Kahr PM9 or a Kel-Tec P3-AT, but you could make them for any gun. To the OP, if you currently carry a Glock G-26, you'll probably end up with a G43, because.... well... it's a Glock. Please note that these holsters don't look great because, frankly, I don't care what they look like. I just want it to be functional. Gaffers tape will improve the looks a lot. My G26 in the jug holster is the same width as my P3-AT in the DeSantis holster!

This is one of those "made for TV" bikes that looks cool, but are impractical. The knobbies make road handling too squirrelly. It's too low and has no rock guard for the pipes for off road. As far as bicycles are concerned, I'd go with my existing road bike after swapping out the pedals so I could wear normal shoes. I have a mountain bike, but riding it any distance... say, over 10 miles... is a major haul.

Note To Self, Roadrage, Motorcycles, and Following someone Home, is a No No
jgradyc replied to runco's topic in General Chat
Once you accept this, it dramatically changes how you react to other drivers. I no longer let other people elicit a reaction from me that I wouldn't want my own mother to hear or see. If they have a problem with my driving, that's their problem. Of course, it took maybe 50 years to figure this out.... -
I'd suggest that the OP... and everyone that owns a Kel-Tec... visit www.thektog.org forum on the PF9. It's an outstanding website about all Kel-Tecs. If there's a common problem, they probably have a fix for it. I don't own a PF9 and no plans to own one, but I've used their fluff and buff suggestions on my P32, P3AT, and P11. You can even buy aftermarket triggers to make these little guns even nicer. By the way, when I had problems with my Taurus and Glock, I got better feedback on solutions from TheKTOG than from the Taurus and Glock forums.

Okay, no rush on my part. I have to pick up a gun today or tomorrow at Guns and Leather and I thought there was a discount for TGO members. Not sure of that... but that's why I was checking my membership status. I checked a couple of weeks ago and might have set it to renew. I know it shows that my renewal is "pending approval." I'm assuming it means that it will renew when the old membership expires on 10May2015.

When I log in, it shows me as a standard member without benefactor posting privileges. When I attempt to upgrade, it says something went wrong. Then, my membership status shows me as a benefactor level member until 10May2015 with a renewal pending. But I can't post in classifieds. What's the problem?

Saw a Bumper Sticker the Other Day That Really Made Me Laugh
jgradyc replied to Ted S.'s topic in General Chat
Why would this bumper sticker make you laugh? :surrender: Anyone?... -
I think Mariota was a reach ^This. I think they were asking too much to trade. Mariota hasn't huddled or called a play since high school. There's no guarantee he can even transition to the NFL game. He would have been perfect for the Philadelphia Eagles and their offense. Maybe they can trade him to Chip Kelly.

I'm trying a straw bale garden this year. I started composting seven straw bales the first week of April and planted my tomatoes about 10 days later. I hoped that the straw bales would give me a faster start because where I live, I never get tomatoes until the first week of July. This morning, it's overcast and 52°. Soil temperature is 60° in my planters and in my yard, but in the bales by my tomato plants, it's 68 to 69°. Hopefully, I'll get tomatoes by mid-June. It's a pretty limited garden. I have 14 tomato plants, 8 bell pepper plants, and 4 cucumber vines. I don't have enough room for anything else, other than some herbs planted on the edges.

scope or red dot with magnifier?
jgradyc replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I understand the need for a scope/red dot for hunting, but I'm missing the point of using either on a home defense SBR or any other home defense gun. Why would you need/want a red dot for home defense? The greatest distance I'd ever need to engage a target in my home is 25 feet. Realistically, it would probably be closer. You should be able to hit a plate-sized target at 25' with a rifle just by pointing. Also, I find using a red dot sight gives me tunnel vision. I'd rather have full peripheral vision in my home. For what it's worth, I have a red laser on my home defense shotgun with a quick and easily accessible on-off switch. It doesn't look bad or good. It's so small, it's not noticeable unless it's turned on. It's not great outdoors in bright sunlight, but my house is indoors. -
By the way, if you watch Groupon for deals, you can pick up a new 11.6" Chromebook for under $140 and install Linux on it to dual boot or swap by hotkey from one OS to the other in less two seconds. I have a 13.3" ASUS Chromebook with Ubuntu and a 11.6" Acer with Mint. The bigger ASUS was $149, I think.

I've used several different versions: Mint, Ubuntu, Zorin, Slacker Puppy, XFCE, etc. Linux Mint is pretty close Windows 7 in look and feel. So is Zorin, but I prefer Mint. I suggest you download the ISO of Linux Mint and try it. You can run any Linux OS from the DVD until you're sure it works with everything. It will be slower and you won't be able to save anything on your laptop so each new start, you'll have to reload your wireless ID, etc. Once you decide which one to use, then install it. I have Linux Mint on a very old Dell Optiplex(?) desktop with XP. It works fine. EDITED: Linux Mint is more like Windows 7. Ubuntu looks a bit more like the Mac OS.

Home Defense Shotgun - What is your take
jgradyc replied to Pete123's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I'll definitely check into the electronic ear muffs. Can anyone recommend a good model? As for shotgun, we keep a Rossi Circuit Judge in a scabbard by the bedside with a thumb actuated laser. It's a 410 with the Winchester PDX load of three discs and 12 BBs. My wife with arthritis doesn't have to worry about a safety or racking the slide for a second shot. I tell her: 1) put dot on target 2) pull trigger 3) repeat as needed. -
If it's the operating system and not the hardware, install Ubuntu or Linux Mint. Ubuntu looks a bit more like the Mac. I used those two OS (along with Chrome OS) for the past two years. They are way superior to Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8 in my opinion. Things that are almost impossible on Windows becomes easy peasy on Linux. LibreOffice is an acceptable clone of Microsoft Office.
