Hopefully, this case has garnered enough national attention for some guns rights organizations to make sure she has a decent attorney. That set up.... buying cigarettes with no lighter sounds like BS... an alibi so he could defend his statement to a cop if things went south in his con or whatever he was doing. I'd like to know what priors this guy has. His retreating to a woman with a small child saying, "she pulled a gun on me" also sounds like a pre-planned action. This just doesn't smell right. I read somewhere that the surveillance camera showed him walking by her and then coming back. Is that what happened or am I confusing this? I couldn't find any reference to it in the story or the TV news video. If that happened, it would be even more suspicious. EDITED: Yes... I found it. EDITED AGAIN: Yeah, I agree she didn't handle this right, but she never fired the gun and there's no way a 67-year-old can draw a weapon with a threat 10 feet away.

Thanks for the pictures, especially the one showing how low the gun sits. That looks really uncomfortable to sit down. Oh, one question. Does it interfere with the use of your pocket?

Review of the Ulticlip replacement for IWB holsters
jgradyc replied to jgradyc's topic in Show and Tell
I found the Ulticlip to be easier to snap on than the original clips. It was a LOT easier to get the Alien Gear holster on with Ulticlips than using the same Ulticlips on my homemade holster. I think it's because the leather on my homemade holster flops around when I try to ge it in position to snap, whereas the Alien Gear is firm, thick leather and stays put. I just put it in position, snap the forward clip. Then, position the back clip towards the small of back and snap it shut. Taking the holster off was easy peasy. Loosen belt enough to unclip the Ulticlip and lift the holster up and out. I think you'll like it on the Alien Gear holster. Note that the Ulticlips are about 3/4 inch longer, so your firearm will sit 3/4 inch lower. Of course, you've got three holes on the Alien Gear holster for positioning the clip, so that shouldn't be an issue. -
Review of the Ulticlip replacement for IWB holsters
jgradyc replied to jgradyc's topic in Show and Tell
I've worn this holster for four days now. Removing it is a lot easier than conventional clips. Just unfasten the clips and lift up. Putting it on is easier than conventional clips, but it's still a bit of a hassle to reach behind my back to clip on the clip closest to the small of back. Once I found the exact location to clip it on the pants, it eliminated the gouging in the back when sitting in a car seat. I'm going to switch the clips to my Alien Gear holster and see how they work on it. -
I dislike finger grooves on anything. If you really want them, you can add them with a Hogue grip, but you can't get rid of them without a very costly frame mod.

Which flashlight is the best?
jgradyc replied to gomer pyle's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Just a follow up to let everyone know that neither of these lights were worth buying. The x2000 is junk and the Sipik clone, while a decent light, is a whiter white than my other Sipik clones. -
I handled the Canik TP9sa at the NRA show back in March and loved it. Reviews of the TP9sa are very positive. The Glock-type trigger is 4.5 lbs and short. It was the best trigger pull I felt at the entire show and I spent two days there handling guns. Now I'm trying to decide whether to get it or the new TP9v2. They are almost identical except... TP9sa is single action. The decocker completely inactivates the trigger. It can be recocked by moving the slide only 1/4 inch. The decocker requires 10lbs of pressure to activate so the risk of inadvertent activation is low. There is a risk of forgetting to recock it but it has a red striker indicator to let you visually see if it is cocked. The downside is that once it is cocked, it has only the Glock-type trigger safety and a short pull 4.5lb trigger. The risk of AD while reholstering is greater than with the TP9v2. TP9v2 is SA/DA. The decocker switches it to DA. It can be recocked by moving the slide 1/4 inch and requires 10lbs to activate. It's also 1/2 inch shorter, but that's not a factor for me because it is still a full-sized gun. Either gun would not be my EDC, but I would carry it OWB in the winter under a jacket or around the farm. Finding a holster is not an issue since I make my own. Here's a review of the TP9sa http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/06/jeremy-s/gun-review-canik-tp9sa/

Review of the Ulticlip replacement for IWB holsters
jgradyc replied to jgradyc's topic in Show and Tell
Here ya go. The leather is from a pack of scrap leather from Hobby Lobby... less than $1 for this piece. It's thin and floppy, which is just what I prefer. The Kydex is from KnifeKits.com. It's 1/4 of a $3.99 sheet. The Chicago screws are about $3 from eBay. The Ulticlips were $23 or so including shipping. After putting it back on, I had another observation. Once you clip it on, it's not going to move. If you're off by a half inch of the perfect location, you can't just tug your belt left or right to re-position the holster. You have to partially take off the belt, unsnap the clip, slide the holster over, snap the clip, and then refasten the belt. It's not a big deal, just something you should know. Also, when you drop your pants, the holster stays in place in the pant rather than trying to pull out with the belt when it's fastened with regular clips. That's another plus, in my opinion. Oh, I guess another plus is that you don't even need a belt. Since I always wear a belt, that's not important to me, but it could be to others reading this. I really, really like the fact that I don't have to get the belt tightened just right for this holster. The belt can be loose if you prefer. With some of my belts, I had to punch a new hole to get the fit I wanted with my regular IWB holster. Weight is 5 ounces. Weight as shown is 31 ounces. EDITED. Okay, I was wrong. You don't have to partially take off the belt. You just need to unfasten it to attach and remove the holster. Sorry... It's a learning process. -

Yeah. I was going out for breakfast. I'll post pics shortly. -
On the "Hybrid Holster" thread, I posted this. The Ulticlip came in and I just installed it today. Here's my first take. It's made well and the clips are sturdy. They fasten really hard so no chance of them becoming unclipped. They fasten to the pant and not the belt so they are easier to clip to the pant. The belt fits over the clip so nothing is visible except the grip of the gun, which can be covered by a tucked shirt if desired. They are a little longer than my existing clip so the gun sits lower. Just an observation. I can always punch another hole if needed. It's a little hard to fasten the clip that's closest to the center of the back, but it's easier than a regular clip. The belt adjustment isn't as critical to a good fit as it is with a regular clip. I'll wear it for a few days and give another update. So far, I'd recommend it highly. Oh, you do have to partially remove the belt in order to unclip the holster. I don't see that as a disadvantage or advantage... just an observation. Oh... IMPORTANT... they don't come in pairs. You need to buy two, so a pair is $23 or so.

Here's the story. Guy gets up to pay his bill and his legally registered (assume this means he has a permit) handgun falls out of its holster and accidentally discharges. http://www.guns.com/2015/11/02/man-drops-gun-at-cracker-barrel-shoots-patron-video/?utm_campaign=trueAnthem:+Trending+Content&utm_content=56388f0704d30172dedd42ba&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=facebook 1. If you gun can fall out of your holster, you need a new holster (or you need to fix it so it can't). If I can't turn my holster upside down, shake it, and it still retain my handgun, I modify it until it will. All it typically takes is a Chicago screw in the right place. 2. What gun was this that goes off when dropped? I want to know so I can avoid ever buying one. News stories are so frustrating because they leave out details like this.

This is one of my pet peeves. You have your pick of vehicles, yet they drive around in these old beaters. In Zombieland, Woodie Harrelson drove an Escalade followed by a Hummer. That's practical. Hummers are a bit hard to find, but Escalades are everywhere. And don't get me started on that stupid motorcycle Daryl rides. The apocalypse comes and you just stumble over a stunt bike used in the original Mad Max?

We're not implying that the green light isn't well intentioned. I'll make a point to find a green light for our house, but what does it do DIRECTLY to assist veterans? What we're saying is that... Intentions ≠ Actions I'll give you an example. Decades ago, people where I grew up wore IPTAY lapel pins. They were pretty common even though my home was 90 miles from Clemson University. IPTAY means "I Pay Ten (dollars) A Year" to support Clemson. Today it's more, but an IPTAY decal means the person displaying the decal/pin/bumper sticker had actually done something to support Clemson. The green light doesn't send a penny veterans' way. We should hijack the movement and make it meaningful. Ideas?

I have mixed feelings on this. On one hand, this is the type of meaningless symbolic gesture that liberals do to make themselves feel good... First, I'm a USAF Academy grad and obviously a vet. My wife is a retired US Air Force Lieutenant Colonel. I agree. While I'm on board with helping needy vets, this seems like one of those symbolic gestures that liberals do to feel good about themselves while not really helping anyone. Worse, it gives a false sense of accomplishment that prevents real action. I'm not against this movement, but I'd like to see it accomplish something. The green light needs to be tied to some meaningful actions the individual/family has taken.

I've made several holsters from scrap leather I bought at Hobby Lobby. These are leather on the side that touches the body and a Kydex mold on the outside. I've done nothing to treat leather. Should I? If so, should I treat both sides of the leather? Should I treat the leather inside the Kydex mold where the weapon touches the leather or not treat that part? Let me be clear on my objectives. I mostly want to stop sweat from reaching the weapon and make sure the leather doesn't stain my shirts or pants. The leather is very flexible now and I prefer it that way. If I need more retention, I'll just remove the spacers on the Chicago screws holding the Kydex to the leather. All I have on hand is Kiwi Mink Oil. It's pasty like a wax. If I need something else, let me know. Do I even need to bother with treating the leather? It's not like I expect these holsters to last forever.

Great job! I noticed you did the same thing I did... moving the belt clips closer together than on the Alien Gear holster. To me, that made a noticeable improvement in the fit. You could consider cutting the leather in the lower right of your picture along the bottom ink line to eliminate it. After that, I'd just leave the other lines. By the way, I've ordered a pair of these belt clips to replace my existing clips like yours. https://ulticlip.com/ My pet peeve with my dual belt clip holster is that it is hard to get the holster on. Hopefully, these clips will speed up the process. I'll start a thread to let everyone know how they worked.

Recommend a good place for BBQ and a place for burgers in Nashville
jgradyc replied to jgradyc's topic in General Chat
Thanks for all the recommendations! -
I took a visiting friend out for barbeque a while back and was really disappointed. What are your favorite BBQ and hamburger places in and around Nashville/Franklin? EDITED: The place we were disappointed with was Edley's Barbecue on 12th Ave South. The pulled pork was way too dry and the ribs were overcooked.

So I am thinking about starting a TGO Hall of Shame
jgradyc replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
I don't like the wall of shame because of potential liability issues. The person doesn't have to be in the legal "right" to file a court action. People can (and do) file for frivolous or other reasons. Imagine some anti-gun poster with the legal support of some anti-gun group doing this specifically to get posted on the wall so they could file a slander lawsuit, for example. It's not worth the hassle, in my opinion. I'd suggest that posting an ad requires 1) At least 30 days of membership to include at least 20 real posts. (No "Me too" or multiple posts to that in your opinion, are made just to pad the post count. 2) An upgrade to benefactor. There may be some better policies at other gun groups. I'd suggest checking them out. -
You're in a theater and then this happens. What would you do?
jgradyc replied to jgradyc's topic in General Chat
I would tell my wife. "Someone just propped that door open. Let's get out of here NOW! You go to the lobby as quick as you can and tell management. On the way, call 911 and tell them what you saw. I'm going to close that door and I'll be right behind you." I'd follow her to the aisle and once I saw she was on her way out, l'd go forward and attempt to close the door. Regardless of whether I could close the door, I would then go after my wife as fast as possible. My wife moves pretty slow and I'm a runner so I'd probably catch up to her before she could even get out of the room. If the guy who propped the door open stayed inside, then I would just leave immediately with my wife and call 911 as soon as I was out the door. -
Saw people getting wanded at the theater today..

I was planning on going to the Green Hills theater. Oh well... -
I make my own pocket holsters using a one gallon water jug and gaffers tape. Here is a link to the process. http://www.thektog.org/forum/f87/milk-jug-pocket-holsters-256713/ The advantages of this for a pocket holster are... 1. They are super thin. If you want to hide something in your front pocket, the holster needs to be as thin as possible. 2. You can contour the holster to fit against your leg and to fit how you want it to fit in your pocket. I have some holsters that are longer so the gun presents higher in a really deep pocket. That is, the bottom inch or two is just pocket filler to raise the tiny gun higher in the pocket. 3. You can shape the "hook" so it becomes almost impossible for the holster to come out when you draw. I see this as a huge plus. I have to unholster the gun to remove the holster, but it can be pocketed with the weapon with no problem. 4. It's cheap... a roll of gaffers tape is $12 and the water jug is free or only a dollar if you don't have one available. You can use duct tape, but it looks awful, as you can see in the pictures in the above link. Gaffers tape doesn't leave a visible tape residue. Here's a pic from the above link showing a tiny KelTec P3-AT in a DeSantis and a Glock 26 in a milk jug holster. They are almost the same width! The P3-AT in the DeSantis holster is 1 3/16" wide... actually it's even wider until the sides are compressed in your pocket. The gun in the milk jug holster on the right is 1 5/16" wide, a barely noticeable difference in the pocket, but it's a Glock 26!

You're in a theater and then this happens. What would you do?
jgradyc posted a topic in General Chat
My wife and I went to movie last week and one of the theater personnel walked through in the middle of the movie. I'm always thinking about scenarios and seeing someone walking around during the movie triggered me to think, "What would I do if the following scenario happened?" You're watching a movie with your wife/girlfriend in a theater after dark. There are a lot of people in the theater. About halfway through, someone goes to the emergency exit and goes out. From your seat, you can see that the door has been propped open just a little with a stick or something small so he can come back in. What do you do? Oh, and of course, you are armed, regardless of what the signage says. I'll have to admit that it took me a whole day and several scenarios before I decided what I would do. I changed my mind three times. So, what would you do? -
It seems to be that the best tactic would have been to get a large earth mover or cat with a secure cabin and just mow them down. Drive back and forth until the pit floor is mush... an easy days work and problem solved. Maybe no one knows how to drive a bulldozer?

So far, it's 20-12 in favor of flu shots... a bit higher than the national average of 46%.
