  1. That is irritating. Turning it off Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk   EDITED: I see a problem here. How do you turn it off? Is there a default to turn it off or do I have to turn it off with each post?
  2. Just downloaded tapatalk Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  3. What would I carry?  The Ruger would be my first choice. The Hi Power and Sig are too large for me. I don't like revolvers or Glocks. To each his own.
  4. I checked the Madison Kroger today. One turkey at $.99/lb. The others were $1.79/lb.  Any luck anywhere around Nashville at finding super low prices?
  5. Any good recipes for cooking in an oven. We don't have a smoker or frier.
  6. We feed our dogs raw turkey. We use a venison meat grinder and add a green vegetable. It's a lot of work, but it's really great for dogs.
  7. This study is junk. As of Nov 2014, there were 482,073 HCP holders in Tennessee. Source is here.  Today, the number is probably over 500,000.   How many handguns does each HCP holder own? Two? Three?   How many people own handguns, but don't have an HCP? Probably another half million or so.    The story says 73,000 registered handguns in Tennessee. If you buy a gun at a gun store, isn't it registered? The government has a form with the serial number and your name on it.    I'd bet the actual number of registered handguns is closer to one million... probably 2 million if you include unregistered handguns.
  8. Didn't this company have a booth at the NRA Expo in Nashville back in March?  I tried it and liked it, but never made it back to the booth. Maybe I should order one.
  9. Here's what I've tried so far. The holsters are old Blackhawk and Uncle Mike made of some sort of textured vinyl... you know what I mean. They're sold everywhere.   1. Liquid electrical tape. Noticeable improvement over the stock holster. Still not as sticky as I would like. Looks pretty awful. 2. Tacky ace wrap that sticks to itself. Marginal improvement. Looks awful. 3. Non slip shelf and drawer liner. Works very good. I just held it in place temporarily with paper clips. It did make the holster thicker. Looks awful. 4. Rubber bands. Works best of any options so far. I just took a dozen or so 1/8 wide rubber bands and wrapped them around the pocket holster. It's not perfect because the holster moves around a bit. Not good enough yet for EDC, but good enough for the desired purpose... a grab and go gun when going out to check mail or other use around the farm. Looks like rubber bands wrapped around a holster... i.e., awful.
  10. I've been thinking of buying a Remora holster that would "stick" in place for appendix or 5 o'clock IWB carry. I couldn't find the exact model for my handgun and the price (about $30 including shipping) turned me off.  That got me to thinking...   I have several Uncle Mike and similar holsters that are like Remora holsters except they don't stick in place.  Why not just coat them with a non slip fabric spray or a non slip fabric like that kitchen shelf liner stuff?   So far, I've found.... An abrasive spray paint with little plastic pellets in it for floor applications. I don't think I'd like that. A product called Sock Stop that paints a non slip liquid on the bottom of socks to make them into slippers. Liquid rubber Non stick shelf liner   Has anyone done this? What did you use?
  11. I was looking at Ammo to Go. I don't usually buy bulk ammo, but I was surprised to see the difference in price. I noticed that the cheapest hollow points started around 36 to 38 cents per round, whereas the cheapest FMJ and TMJ ammo was only 18-24 cents per round.    Why?
  12. Is this statement true or false? That would be about...  let's see... 20 grams of lead moving at 850 fps.    I'm not saying the comparison to 357 is valid. I'd just like to find out more about the above statement.
  13. Well, that's the problem right there. Why would anyone look for a gun in a glovebox? She should have put it in a gun box.
  14. The push-pull works better with the Weaver Stance. I can't use it accurately with the isosceles stance either.
  15. There is a technique to avoid limp wristing.  You can probably find a youtube video on how to do it. It's necessary with almost all the LCP-sized handguns.   It starts with a basic two hand grip. Then, you pull towards your body with the weak hand and push back with the trigger hand to prevent the gun from moving. The isometric movement "locks" the wrists and prevents limp wristing.  It looks like a normal grip, but the push-pull interaction is what prevents the gun from moving when fired and thus prevents limp wristing.   EDITED:  I didn't find a good video on avoiding limp wristing on youtube.  I did look at a half dozen or so.    Edited again:  It's not just the grip. You can grip the gun really tight and still have a limp wrist malfunction.
  16. I agree that the general public is oblivious to printing. I do think that criminals are more observant, so I am careful not to print. Once the temperature drops below 70, I wear long sleeves and a lightweight vest. Vests do an outstanding job of concealing because they're thick enough to never print, yet you can wear them indoors without getting too hot. I have a wide selection of vests... puffy vests ski vests, yuppie running vests, and even a couple of hey-I'm-carrying-a-gun vests. :pleased:  I usually wear the latter when I'm in the country and the former when I'm around town. However, I carry at 5 o'clock. If you carry at 3 o'clock, you're probably going to have the occasional wardrobe malfunction where it would be visible for a couple of seconds, but again, the general public won't notice.
  17. Castor, I'd suggest that when the time is right, you look into a rescue dog.  You can go to Petfinder.com and see pictures and descriptions of thousands of dogs near you. The advantage is that most of these dogs are in foster homes, so the foster parents can tell you whether the dog is good with kids, other dogs, cats, etc.  My avatar is a rescue dog... a wirehaired pointing griffon.  My wife and I have fostered seven dogs and cats. It's so rewarding to find a great home for a homeless dog or cat.   Instead of using petfinder, you can also go directly to the rescue website. There are rescue organizations for almost all breeds of dogs. Just do a search for the breed name and rescue... like border collie rescue, for example. Most likely, you can find a rescue near you for most breeds, or at least in a neighboring state.
  18. The back seat in my Subaru wagon lifts up like that, but I doubt that there is enough clearance to mount a long gun under there.
  19. This is a very good summary of my thinking as well, although I'm not a former LEO.
  20. I've seen several comments on this and other gun forums about carrying a long gun in the truck or car. I've thought about it, but I can't envision a scenario where I might need it.    If I can get to my car, I'm leaving whatever is the threat. For example, if I were in that party at San Bernardino and got to my car, I'm not getting a weapon and going back in.  If I am in my car, I can't get to the long gun without getting out of the car. (Not quite true for some cars, but definitely not easy to get to.)   So what are scenarios where I might need to carry a long gun?
  21. I just had a thought... does anyone in Tennessee custom build ARs for others? That might be his best approach.
  22. A buddy of mine wants an AR. He won't shoot it a lot nor clean it religiously. He's not going to hunt or shoot it anything other than relatively close range paper targets. He wants it to "look good." Upon questioning a bit, I gather this means quad rail, FDE or similar color, optics, bipod front grip, and so on.   What should he get as the AR and where should he look to order the accessories?
  23. I went to Brown's Diner yesterday for lunch and the only empty table was in the middle of the room. It felt odd to sit in the middle of the room.
