  1. I just upgraded my wife's flip phone to a smart phone (Samsung Galaxy S5) and it scares me. She won't practice with it so the only time she uses it is when she's out. I think now I have to upgrade the car so she can have bluetooth for hands free answering.
  2. Voting is already messed up enough with long waiting lines. It's amazing to me that anyone waits until voting day to vote. If you haven't made up your mind a month before the election, you're probably too dumb to vote.
  3. Cops have a really tough job. Just show him the permit. Then, if you're curious, politely ask why you were asked to show your permit. Perhaps a scared customer freaked out. Maybe you did something unusual that caught the cop's eye.    FYI, I was in Subway twice this week. I ordered a sandwich, paid, and left. No one asked about my gun because they didn't see it. It's kinda a no-brainer to me. I don't want to stand out or get delayed because someone freaked out over me carrying a gun.    When I'm shopping or eating lunch, I don't want to make a political statement, I don't want to be the first guy shot because the wacko bad guy sees that I'm armed, I don't want to get in a hassle with cops.  When I'm shopping, I shop. When I'm eating, I eat. When I want to make a political statement, I vote.
  4. Okay, I think we have found the problem here.  :biglol:
  5. I handled this gun at the March NRA show in Nashville. It's a nice looking gun and it felt better than guns costing 2-3 times as much. The trigger was short and relatively light. I've been thinking of getting it in the desert tan color.  A lot of reviewers are put off by the decocker, but based on its position and need for 10 lb of pressure to actuate it, I can't imagine a situation where you could accidentally engage it. Checking to make sure the gun is cocked ought to become second nature before holstering it anyway.
  6. I would recommend against the Blackhawk Serpa holster. I found that when attempting to draw a full size Glock, the angle of the grip combined with the location of the retention finger press device caused my finger to fall directly on the trigger when the gun came out of the holster. I told the owner immediately who began to instruct me on keeping my finger straight. Sure...   It's one thing to keep the finger straight when it doesn't have to do anything, but with the Serpa retention, the trigger finger has to press the lever inwards to release the device. Of course, the finger continues to go in after the gun is unholstered, stopping when it hits the trigger guard or the frame. In my case, my finger would sometimes go INSIDE the trigger guard. Making it worse, the retention lever was hard to actuate, so I wound up pushing it with the pad of my finger, which meant the finger had to be slightly bent, which meant it was even more likely to continue to bend after the gun was released from the holster.   There have been a number of NDs with this holster for this reason. There are holsters with thumb retention devices. I'd consider those first.   EDITED: Here's a link to an article that describes the problems with the Serpa type retention. http://weaponsman.com/?p=16642
  7. Ahh! I've been thinking about buying one. How much was it?

    Tv Shows

If you into scifi, a good series is Stargate SG-1. Richard Dean Anderson (MacGyver) is outstanding.
  9. I started this in August. Here's my advice. Find some place with a trainer who can monitor your form. Even at low weight, I was doing things that would have gotten me injured. Ask around. I go to Franklin Strength in Cool Springs just south of Nashville. I have to drive 40 minutes to get there, but the low cost ($599/year) and quality of training make it worth the drive for me. Once someone (who is knowledgeable) observes you and corrects what you're doing wrong, then you can progress to working out on your own. I'd avoid Crossfit. There's too much emphasis on speed. Speed sacrifices form. There are lots of fitness clubs springing up now so you should be able to find one.     Oh, for example, the things that can hurt you aren't just the lift. You can just as easily hurt yourself setting the bars down!
  10. You're a good man for trying to find a home for her. Hopefully you can find a rescue or maybe someone on TGO will find room in their hearts for another fur person in their family.   My avatar is a stray that we rescued, as is my border collie and cat.

    Tv Shows

Castle NCIS - The Original show The Walking Dead - Uneven. When it hits, it's great.   A notch down, but good. The Flash Blacklist House   Not kid safe Boston Legal   Most of the other shows mentioned, I either haven't watched or don't like. Breaking Bad is well written and extremely well acted, but I couldn't bring myself to pull for a drug dealing murderer... call me old-fashioned.  :ugh:
  12. First, I don't think purse carry is a good idea. On the body carry would be better.   That said, it seems to me the best approach would be to find a non-gun purse she likes with a zippered pocket big enough for a gun. Then, put the gun in a holster. Then, use Velcro on the holster and inside of purse to position the holster so it will present properly when unzipped. Get the type of Velcro where it has a tape-like backing and just tape it in place.    The advantages are several, but one is that the gun can be removed from the purse without removing it from the holster, eliminating the risk of AD when removing the gun from purse to put in the glove box, bedside drawer, etc.
  13. I really hope your dog shows up soon.   Here's a tip for everyone.    We traveled a lot in an RV with our dogs and cats. They were all microchipped, but I also printed up one of those dog tags at WalMart with my name, dog's name, city, state, and my cell phone number on it. I put it on the collar instead of the rabies tag. People who don't want to get involved won't go through the hassle of tracking down someone by a rabies tag, but they'll be a lot more likely to call a number on the dog tag. I think the next time I make one, I'll add the word REWARD! on the tag. It couldn't hurt.   It really paid dividends when I let the dogs out and inside of waiting to put on their leases, they took off like a shot after a deer. The little one got lost and wound up about a mile away at stranger's house, who called me right away. Her picture is my avatar.   I hope your dog shows up soon!!!
  14. Then how do you wear a coat?  I can't tuck my coat inside an OWB holster. The jacket is too long and too stiff. This is just stupid.
  15. This is getting more and more alarming.   Fox News reports tonight that 43 large propane tanks were stolen in PA.  Dozens of propane tanks stolen over the past month in Missouri. Dozens of burner phones purchased in bulk in WalMarts in Missouri Stolen remote controlled cars Bulk purchase of Xbox 360 Kinect sensors in Arkansas   What is going on?
  16. I appreciate your comments and you taking the time to post replies here. A different perspective is always enlightening.
  17. I do NOT like cold weather... with cold being defined as below 60 degrees. I'd move to Florida except I've already lived there twice and the non-winter months are oppressively humid and hot. Plus, you have to go to South Florida to get weather above 60 degrees almost every day.
  18. At the VERY first sign of cold/flu, I start taking vitamin C and Echinacea. I take a gram of C every four hours or so and a couple of Echinacea capsules. I also switch from coffee to Echinacea tea.  Usually, this stops the cold/flu before it takes hold. (You might want to make sure that Echinacea doesn't conflict with any prescription meds you're taking.)   If you wait until you're really sick, then you pretty much have to treat the symptoms until you're better. That's what most of the recommendations in this thread are doing.
  19. Most car break-ins are smash and grab. I doubt if they spend more than 30 seconds in the car. I wonder if some type of bicycle cable lock might allow you to keep a gun in the back seat area, but still allow you access without leaving the car? I'll have to think about that.
  20. I was in Academy Sports yesterday and bought a 200 round Winchester white box in 9mm for $47.  I didn't see what I thought was a great deal on anything else.
  21. Would linseed oil make it darker? Or would it just make the lines stand out more?    I went by Home Depot and in the flooring department, they had samples of different wood. I discovered that I liked maple and the light oak best, but my favorite was "Alpine Elm."  That doesn't seem to be a wood choice for grips, so still looking.   Looking at pictures of wooden grips, I like the pattern where the lines aren't straight, but come out like a series of larger and larger concentric ovals. Any idea what that's called? I assume woodworkers have a name for it.
  22. I prefer a lighter color wood with noticeable grain. I don't know enough about woodwork to realize that a stain is different from a clear varnish! ?
  23. I just got a new P938 with the rubber grip with finger grooves. It's the one with the factory laser. I don't like the grip and so I started looking for a replacement. On eBay, I found a guy that sells unfinished P938 grips in walnut, maple, oak, mahogany, cherry and maybe a couple more woods.    I've never finished a piece of wood... or at least not in 50 years since high school shop class. Is it hard? What wood would you recommend? What stain? It's a two-tone Sig P938. If I mess up, can I just sand it down and start over? Sorry to post such a novice question, but nice grips really add a lot to the look of these little 1911-type guns.
  24. The colander approach looks good. You don't even have to build it. Just get the parts and hold the wifi adapter in the approximate position to see if the signal improves. If it improves enough, then build it.   Same approach with the cantina.  Just throw something together with aluminum foil and a Pringles can and duct tape it together. If it works, you can build a more permanent model.
  25. Thanks. Tapatalk should not show in this reply if I did it right.
