  1. I grew up watching Fireball Roberts and Ned Jarrett, but today's crop of drivers doesn't excite me. I don't really have anyone to pull for or pull against
  2. Some guns require you to rack the slide to dry fire again after dry firing. Other guns will reset to allow you to keep dry firing by just pulling the trigger without needing to rack the slide. As a rule of thumb, I generally don't dry fire a gun without a dummy round in the chamber. It's called a snap cap.
  3. I think this list has been picked over by every LEO in Putnam County.
  4. Holy cow! I think I'll call the Putnam County Sheriff's Depart to see if they will sell my guns on consignment.
  5. I'm going to try Zenni. I got my prescription done yesterday. Any tips? Any coupons?
  6. Ha! Thanks, everyone. I talked with his wife today and she is planning to replace the tire(s) next week.  I'm relieved to hear it.    It's bad enough driving a safe car.  I was in the right hand lane on I-65 northbound at the Harding exit a couple of days ago when the van in front of me suddenly slowed. I hit the brakes hard, then took my foot off and swerved to the exit ramp. After I passed the van, I could see a Scion had slowed to about 5mph in front of the van. Apparently the driver was unsure of whether to take exit and just slowed to a near stop in the right hand lane! The driver eventually pulled onto the exit ramp. Had it been a semi instead of a van, that Scion would be half its length by now!
  7. Thanks, guys. His wife drives this car a lot so I'm confused by the reluctance to simply replace the tires. It's a tiny Mercedes CLK 320 rear wheel drive.
  8. Sorry I didn't think to get a picture, but here's the problem.   I was walking by a friend's car and noticed a gouge in the sidewall. Looking closer, it appears the car hit a pothole, slightly dinged the rim, and gouged a hole in the sidewall about the size of teaspoon and about a quarter inch deep. The gouge starts about one inch above the rim and is about an inch long. It's maybe a half inch wide. It's not deep enough to show any of the belt... if there is a belt on the sidewall... I don't know.    Looking closer, I saw some cracking between the treads. I checked the date code and found 0708... 7th week in 2008... eight years old. The tire isn't showing any cracking on the sidewall, but where the tread begins, there are lots of narrow cracks where the tire is drying out. It's a front, passenger side tire. Pirelli something 205/55 by 16. The tires still have a lot of tread left. It's not leaking and apparently this is not a relatively new damage. I just happened to see it a couple of days ago and told him that he needed to replace that tire and since they were eight years old, he should at least replace the front two tires.   The problem is my buddy bought these tires online only a couple of years ago... again, at my insistence because the old tires were almost bald. He got them cheap online. Obviously, someone sold him some old stock.   Still, he thinks it's okay to keep driving on it. I told him it's dangerous.   It's not like he's poor. His other car is a 2015 'Vette.   What's the opinion here? Safe to drive on or not?
  9. Update: The Edley's that was disappointing was the one on 12th, not the East Nashville place.
  10. I'd consider Carl's Perfect Pig or Heavenly Hog in White Bluff. The cole slaw is too vinegary for me at one of these places... can't remember which one, but the barbecue is great.
  11. Edley's was rated really high online so I took an out of town friend there. It was really disappointing.  The wife and I went to Jack's up by Trinity Lane. It was okay, but not a place I'd rave over. In short, I'd like to hear from others on TGO on best BBQ places as well.
  12. I have really nice set of New Zealand long sheepskin seat covers. I either keep the firearm under my right hip or under the seat cover on the passenger's seat. It's out of sight and I don't think most crooks would look under a seat cover in a quick smash and grab car theft.
  13. I don't remember. I think it had something to do with LEO. It definitely wasn't an HCP class.  I just posted it so people could see what I was talking about.     I didn't like some of the drills, but it did trigger an idea to ask TGO to suggest some shooting drills.    Although... the drill to "load pistol with 3 rounds total (1 in chamber, 2 in mag). Take one side step to cover... and fire 4 rounds" gave me a chuckle.
  14. Ha! I have no idea what this means!
  15. I'm not into competitive shooting so I normally just get a circular target and shoot from my normal two-handed grip. While reading an article, I came across this Wisconsin qualification course and realized that for self defense purposes, I should be doing something like this. I'd like to come up with a half dozen or so practical shooting drills. What would you recommend?
  16. I have this AA LED flashlight. It's a Trustfire R5-A3.   PRO: Inexpensive ($11). Reasonably bright. Low is much lower than high. 3-mode (hi, low, strobe). Tiny. Lightweight. Reasonably well made. Works on AA or 14500 batteries. (Brighter on the 14500.)  Will tail stand.   CON: No hole to attach lanyard. The clip is about like a bobbie pin. It's not too sturdy and doesn't clip fiercely. Takes about two weeks to ship from China.   I've had good and bad experiences with the Sipik SK68 ($3.85 on the same website).  It has one mode.   PRO: A zoom feature that is surprisingly tight for such a small light (about a 10 foot square at 100 yards.) Tiny. Surprisingly bright for such a small light, especially in the zoom mode. CON: Gets hot. Battery only lasts about 20 minutes. Quality control is spotty. Lots of companies make Sipik knock offs. Some are okay. Others are poor quality.    I've had mostly good experiences with flashlights from FastTech.
  17. While it sounds like you've done a lot in the way of security, have you considered a gate on the driveway?
  18. No. It depends on what you mean by "in" your home. There are no guns in the walls, floors, or ceilings of my home.
  19. My wife and I enjoy great pizza. What places do you like in the Nashville to Franklin area?

    SNOW!!

Interstates are now clear as far as traffic blockages are concerned.  Other roads are problematic going up and down hills. Between traffic and not knowing how to drive in snow, I saw several problems last night driving Donelson Pike and Nolensville Road, mostly going uphill.  The interstates were okay, but had patches of ice.
  21. Canik TP9 both versions. ~$325 Taurus G2 Millenium  ~$199-$209 It's hard to beat the G2 in bang for the buck. Two hundred dollars anywhere else buys... what?... a Hi Point?

    SNOW!!

I'm 8 miles from Downtown Nashville. We got about 8 inches of snow, but that's misleading because it's packing down.
  23. CommsNBombs, you might want to consider tricking out a Kel Tec Sub2000. Here's a picture of one with an AR adjustable stock someone built. The details on how to do it are over at THEKTOG at the thread. http://www.thektog.org/forum/attachments/f85/15416d1399842843-ar-stock-sub-2000-imageuploadedbykel-tec-forum1399842841.360178.jpg PRO: Folds really small. Glock mags or your choice of other mags. Kel Tec is pretty good about customer service. Should be able to get one for $499 plus TICS taxes, etc. Active mod/enthusiast forum at www.theKTOG.org CON: Might need to polish parts to get it smooth shooting. (This is covered in the forum.) Not good looking. Front sight is fragile on the Gen 1 (fixed on the Gen 2). Must side mount optics to retain full folding ability.
  24. Following up on my previous post, I wouldn't recommend a 12 gauge, 357, and so on. If you give these guns to an old, small, non shooter, these guns are going to kick like hell. Grandma is going to refuse to shoot it and will probably be afraid of it. In my first hand experience, my wife isn't going to shoot often enough to handle a pump shotgun or any handgun with a kick.    Our bedside guns are Circuit Judge and the Kel Tec Sub2000 in 40 caliber. The Sub2000 is very manageable and short enough to indoors. I have the Kel Tec on one side of the bed and the Circuit Judge on the other.
  25. If you're going with 410, consider the Circuit Judge. It's tiny... about the size of a child's Crickett. Easy to handle indoors. Single and double action. I have the black model with a laser in a scabbard on the bedpost. My wife, a non shooter, has instructions to 1) Put green dot on target. 2) Pull trigger. 3) Repeat until bad guy is discouraged from moving. FWIW: The PDX ammo pattern is not symmetrical and scatters after about 30 feet. Ammo is expensive, but as non shooters, that doesn't matter. Buckshot is really hard to find. You'd probably need to order online. I keep two PDX and three #4 shot in the cylinder. Oh, and your face is really close to the cylinder when shooting. That's another reason for the laser.
