Thanks!!! Unfortunately, it won't work for me. I read the fine print. I'm not eligible because I'm an existing customer. This would be an upgrade of service, not a new customer referral. Plus, Comcast is misleading in their promotion. In the fine print it says $25 per service per person, up to $500 in total referrals per year. So, even if I was a new customer, it would have been only $25. Still, thanks for thinking about it and bringing it up. Better luck next time.

Well.... I just received a 2nd email from xfinity saying that my order has been cancelled. "If you have any questions, please call us back at..." I'd really prefer to sign up online, so I guess I'll try again.

The only thing I forgot to ask was whether there are add-on costs. I'm sure that there is. I hope it's not much.

Wow. Here is my experience so far. I bought the Arris Residential Gateway and Router from Best Buy for $199 in preparation to connecting to Comcast Double Play. I already have Comcast internet. The Arris would not connect to the internet. It wanted some authorization from Comcast, so I decided to reinstall my old modem. I'll wait and let the professional installer connect the new modem. I signed up using the chat for the $110 double play plus a second TV X1 Platform... cost of $119. By going online, I figured they couldn't mess up the order and I'd have a record of the chat. It didn't work out that way. I got all the way to the Order screen, clicked on order, and it just started processing. After five minutes, the Chat person suggested I refresh the screen. I did. It knocked me completely out of chat and completely out of the order process and took me back to the initial home screen where I started! Now I don't know if I have an order or not! I guess I'll wait to see if I get a notice by email. This does not bode well so far. By the way, I signed up for the 2 year contract. Is that a good idea? I'd rather not switch often and I don't like getting surprise increases. UPDATE: I just received a confirmation email.

My 2000 Subaru is making a sound when going through the gears (manual transmission). I'm pretty sure it is something in the right transaxle because the guy I took it to in Clarkville a year ago for something else said it might eventually become a problem. I trust the guy in Clarksville, but he's too far away. I need a recommendation in the Nashville/Brentwood area. The car is worth less than $2,500 so I can't see putting a lot of money into repair. Any suggestions?

I've read that their product is good if you can avoid the customer service part. I tried to switch before, but they messed up the order, installed an out-of-date DVR box, and made it really hard to get the problem fixed. They said they'd send me a new DVR. I said I paid for install and I wanted them to install it. For some reason, they couldn't get anyone out to install the correct box. I finally cancelled and returned everything. Anyway, should I sign up online or call a sales rep?

I've had the Galaxy S4, S5, S6 and the Note 5. The S4 is ancient now. The S5 has a funky cap over the mini-USB charging port to make it more water proof that is a hassle to remove. You can't rip it off because a warning comes on to tell you it's not in place. I'd never get the S5 again. The Note 5 did not have good reception in my rural area so I returned it. It was also slower than the S6, but maybe I just got a lemon. The S6 is fine. I have small hands and it's easy to handle with one hand. I would never get an S6 or S7 Edge for the reasons others have posted, plus I always put my phone in a silicon case to protect it so the edge isn't visible anyway. Cost is maybe $4-$6 on eBay. By the way, everyone I know who has moved up to a bigger phone says that they would never go back. For me, a 5" screen is the minimum I'll consider going forward.

I live in Nashville. My DirecTV system is maybe four years old. I already have Comcast internet, so switching to Comcast DoublePlay with internet plus tv would save me about $100/month. Should I call Comcast and talk to a sales rep to sign up or should I sign up online? Any benefits to talking to a real person? I tried switching two years ago by telephone and the order got totally messed up.

For 40 years, I've stressed to my wife: If she's driving and she has to stop for any unanticipated reason... flat tire, engine problem... Immediately, her priority should become her own safety. It's no longer about getting the flat fixed or getting to wherever she was going. Too many bad things can happen when people sit in cars on the side of the road. If I understand the original post, this woman was sitting in a car for over 10 minutes ...at night ...in a darkened neighborhood ...with no drive by traffic or people around ...with the interior light on so anyone outside could see that it was a woman by herself talking on a phone? If this was my wife in this situation, I'd suggest she tell the caller, "I'm driving right now. I'll call you back in 10 minutes." Do not stop your car in a strange, unlighted location.

I have no opinion on the Charter Arms Pitbull, but I have a strong opinion on ankle carry. If possible in a threatening situation, I am going run away. That's hard to do wearing an ankle holster. The one time I have needed a firearm in my life, I could have extracted myself from the situation had I not been wearing heavy boots because I could have easily outrun the two fat guys threatening me. As a result of that incident, I seldom wear flip flops or boots in public. I wear old running shoes. Granted, many of my peers don't have this option because they can't run. Running isn't my first option, but I'd like to have it as an option before having to shoot someone.

I spoke my brother-in-law. The letters claim back taxes are due for retirement income of $12,000 paid to Shirley and Allen (dec) [last name] in 2012 of some city in Washington state. It also had my mother-in-law's correct SSAN. Of course, her husband wasn't named Allen nor would her husband have received any retirement income from Illinois in 2012 because HE DIED IN 2007. Also, there's the fact that they lived in Florida for the past 30 years and never lived in Washington. It sounds like identity theft to me. Any suggestions on who to contact? Contacting the IRS by phone doesn't seem to be getting it done, since they've been going back and forth on this for nearly a year, according to my brother in law.

Nothing fishy here... her son lives with her. He has been handling this for the past few months. I don't really know what he has done. My wife is relaying what has been done, so I'm getting information second hand. I've only known about this for the past three days. I try to stay out of in-law affairs because my brother-in-law is financially irresponsible and an extreme liberal. I'm okay with liberals if they can just keep their mouths shut around me, but he can't. I've asked him to text me a picture of the letters from the IRS, but he can't handle that. I said take a pic with mom's iPad and email them to me. He says the wifi is down at home. After a couple of similarly frustrating suggestions, I just said photocopy it and send it to me ASAP so I can see what is going on. That's where it stands right now. It sounds to me like the IRS has the wrong person, but there are too many bureaucrats involved (or my brother-in-law hasn't really tried) to get to the bottom of this. The initial letter (I'm told) said that (mother-in-law's name) received a disbursement from the estate of Dean ____ for the pension. My father-in-law's first name was not Dean, nor did they ever live in Oregon, as the letter stated. My brother-in-law claims to have told the IRS this, but the letters continued. Again, I'm getting all this second hand. Hopefully, I'll have the letters from the IRS by Monday and can dig into this a bit more.

I think I'll gather the paperwork, look it over myself, and then contact what's called an Enrolled Agent (EA). I didn't know such a designation existed, but they represent clients in front of the IRS. I've found 5 in/near Winter Haven, FL. Once I get a better feel of what's going on, I'll interview a couple by phone, see what their fee structure is and how they would propose to proceed with this case. I'd be willing to pay a couple of grand to make this go away before it kills my mother-in-law. She's 88 and doesn't need the stress. It shouldn't take that many hours, especially if it's not really her the IRS is looking for or if we can quickly settle this for a grand or so. I'm still not convinced that she didn't pay taxes on the disbursement. I think she did, but I wasn't filing her taxes so I don't really know.

My mother-in-law (in Florida) has been getting letters from the IRS saying she owed $12,000 in back taxes and penalties for not declaring income. It was allegedly a disbursement from her late husband's Illinois teacher's pension. She's 88 and living off social security, so paying $12,000 in back taxes is out of the question. In fact, she hasn't had enough income to need to file a tax return for 3-4 years. This was just brought to my attention today. Her son has been talking to the IRS about it for months apparently, but he's really worthless when it comes to finances. Here's what I remember. Her husband did retire as an Illinois teacher. He died in 2007 and my mother in law did get a disbursement from some Illinois pension plan in 2008-2009. I can't recall the amount... maybe $20,000 to $60,000... I remember only thinking that it was a pretty small amount when it finally came in. I'm asking my mother in law to send me the correspondence with the IRS so I can see what's going on. I guess my question here is... what is a good tax advocate service to help her with this? She is in Florida. I'm in Tennessee.

This is the one I'm looking at... Weston #12. I don't know if it's worth $300 more than the others recommended here or my old one.

I'm guessing we grind 150 pounds of turkey a year.
-
Our meat grinder started making a horrible gear whining screech. I think it's a goner. I need a recommendation for a new grinder. We use it to grind up turkey for our dog food. It needs to be strong enough to grind up small bones. We give the larger bones to the dogs as snacks. Our old one came from Northern Tools and lasted about 8 years, I think. It looks like this one on their website. Unless anyone has a better suggestion, I'll just buy another one like this one. We don't use it for any other purpose. EDITED: We grind about 1 large turkey every three weeks. EDITED AGAIN: It doesn't have to be cheap. The Northern Tool model (~$100) I have was okay until it broke, but I'd be willing to pay more if it were better, faster, etc. We buy really expensive dog food, so over time the cost will be amortized in dog (and cat) food savings.

I would not want to go to a gun show that allowed everyone to carry in the show. It's one thing to be around people discreetly carrying. It's another when people are trying out holsters, showing their guns, and letting others (strangers) handle their loaded weapons when trying to sell them. Some of those strangers have no firearms discipline. I'm not putting my life in their hands. It's a small concession to empty your firearm when entering and reload when exiting. Funny story, sort of: Someone asked me about my money clip folding knife... a SOG Access Card 2.0. I handed it to him and said, "Be careful. It's sharp." He promptly cut his thumb... I mean, in less than 5 seconds. I don't give my knife to anyone anymore. Imagine the same thing at a gun show... only with a gun instead of a money clip knife.

What makes this gun so special? It doesn't interest me in the least.

I'm in Nashville and currently paying $170/month for DirecTV and $70/month for Comcast internet. (Landline is with Verizon.) It's been about 7 years since I last changed providers. I'm thinking of going to the Xfinity Double Play with internet and cable TV with the 140 channel package, shown online for $110/month. I tried switching to Comcast a couple years ago, but they screwed up the installation so badly I cancelled the service. Any tips or advice on how to go about this smoothly? Or how to get a better rate? Working with these cable/satellite providers is worse than dealing with a car salesman! In fact, I rather enjoy the banter when buying a car, but with these companies, I always get someone who can't speak English who is reading from a script. Oh well, rant over. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I've been riding for 40 years. Drivers today are out to kill you. Not really, but they might as well be. I'm selling my bike. It's just too dangerous with distracted drivers everywhere.

I still believe he admitted an intent to commit a felony. He planned to buy a gun and then give it to the police. Then, he was convinced to sell it back to the dealer. Either would be a felony because buying a firearm with the express intent to transfer to another or to sell to another is considered a straw man purchase... as I understand the law.

Adult population (age 18 and up) in Tennessee is approximately 4,9 million. As of June 1, 2016, there are 560,933 HCP holders in Tennessee. https://www.tn.gov/assets/entities/safety/attachments/Current_HG_PermitHolders.pdf One in nine adults in Tennessee have HCP, yet amazingly we aren't shooting each other right and left. Tell your liberal friends.

TN_Nash_CC, this is for pocket carry, right? If so, the final limiting factor is thickness of the gun in its pocket holster, in my opinion. I'd recommend you look into making your own pocket holster out of gallon milk jug plastic and gaffer's tape (non-gluey duct tape that leaves no residue). I posted how to do this in a previous thread along with pics. I'll see if I can find it. EDITED: Here you go... I make my own pocket holsters using a one gallon water jug and gaffers tape. Here is a link to the process. http://www.thektog.org/forum/f87/milk-jug-pocket-holsters-256713/ The advantages of this for a pocket holster are... 1. They are super thin. If you want to hide something in your front pocket, the holster needs to be as thin as possible. 2. You can contour the holster to fit against your leg and to fit how you want it to fit in your pocket. I have some holsters that are longer so the gun presents higher in a really deep pocket. That is, the bottom inch or two is just pocket filler to raise the tiny gun higher in the pocket. 3. You can shape the "hook" so it becomes almost impossible for the holster to come out when you draw. I see this as a huge plus. I have to unholster the gun to remove the holster, but it can be pocketed with the weapon with no problem. 4. It's cheap... a roll of gaffers tape is $12 and the water jug is free or only a dollar if you don't have one available. You can use duct tape, but it looks awful, as you can see in the pictures in the above link. Gaffers tape doesn't leave a visible tape residue. Here's a pic from the above link showing a tiny KelTec P3-AT in a DeSantis and a Glock 26 in a milk jug holster. They are almost the same width! The P3-AT in the DeSantis holster is 1 3/16" wide... actually it's even wider until the sides are compressed in your pocket. The gun in the milk jug holster on the right is 1 5/16" wide, a barely noticeable difference in the pocket, but it's a Glock 26!
