  1. My first experience with interchangeable back straps was with a Walther P99. Worked really great for me with the small strap. Currently have a XDm 40, full size, with the small strap. My hand isn't all that small, but the fingers are short by comparison. It is no gimmick, and does make quite a difference for some folks. Some don't need it. Big thing is, you have a choice. It does expand the market for a particular gun to a larger group of people.
  2. Locally, Reloaders Bench in Mt. Juliet. They have a heck of a selection in that small building. Friendly folks too. Otherwise, MidSouth, Midway. Haven't had much luck with reloading supplies at gun shows. Prices are sometimes cheaper online, but after you add in shipping, etc., the Reloaders Bench is usually about the same price, and you don't have to wait several days for the stuff to show up.
  3. Greg, I went Sat. am. Show was ok, if you don't have to drive far, & nothing else going on. Not really worth the $7...maybe $5. Largest table(s) I noticed was the guy with all the Army surplus clothes, etc. As Hipower said, the Armory & Lock & Load had good displays. Not in the class with Goodman or the 'Boro.
  4. Couldn't argue with that. Shows around Nashville have been going downhill the past several years. Haven't been able to get a reason for that. Possible just too many shows, too close together. Interest from the general public is good. Just not enough dealers show up to have a good selection/deals. JMHO The Lebanon show is small, & likely not worth the admission. Just something to do. But you never know when you'll stumble upon what you're looking for. I'm still looking for an answer as to why Goodmans' show can't find enough dealers to fill two buildings as in the past. Since Bob Pope left the Expo off I-24, and moved to the old Walmart bldg. in Smyrna, which was sold, then taken over by R.K Shows, this has went downhill fast. Right now the situation in general...sucks!
  5. Gun show at Wilson Co. Ag Center / fairgrounds this weekend. Not huge, but about the only show close by. Off hwy. 70, just North of Watertown exit, on right.
  6. Same here.
  7. Good show today. Found a couple of single shot 16ga. shotguns I've been looking for forever. Overpriced tho. Left 'em where they were. Place was packed as stated.
  8. Thanks, folks, for all the input. My situation is about the same as SafeAndSecure. LOL Wife really likes it, so I may just give it a shot(pun). Should have been out long enough now to have the bugs worked out, as someone else suggested. Now if I can just find a way to get her to pay for it & the ammo, etc.......
  9. You're right about the stories you hear, not always reliable, sometimes the problem is the fault of the owner as well. The 24/7 she had worked really well, no problems. I really like shooting it, but just not for her. If the gun has been on the market for a while, the problems may have been addressed. Hadn't seen a date on when they arrived on the market. I'll check out the Taurus forum & see what's being said there. Thanks, Larry
  10. Anyone have any hands on experience with this gun? Been trying to find a small gun for my wife. She had a Taurus PT24/7 40 S&W. Too much gun for her, size wise..weight, recoil, etc. She picked up the Slim at the gun show @ fairgrounds yesterday, great fit for her. Issue is, reports vary widely on the reliability of this gun on various forums, plus Taurus gets mixed reviews on customer service when there is a problem. Personally, I really like the way the gun is made, feels good striker fired, good safety issues, low cost, etc. Just don't want any FTF, FTE, FTC issues that I've read about. This gun was a 9MM, which would be easier on recoil. Just don't need the aggravation of dealing with an unreliable gun.
  11. Caster, I'll have to agree up to a point. Haven't said, or thought, that I'd never go back, exception being the Franklin show. I don't always buy anything, but I enjoy looking over the merchandise, seeing what's new on the market & being able to get it in my hand to see how it feels, rather than seeing a pic in a magazine & having only the writers opinion of what it feels like. Not unusual for me to use the show as one large dealer shelf to feel & find what I want & then shop wherever for the best deal, at the show or not. Agreed, some aspects of a show are a pain in the butt.
  12. I agree, as will most everyone else, about the flea market junk. There was a time when this was not allowed. Then came the time when another table sold didn't matter what was on it. Can't really believe a gun dealer can't be found to fill that slot. I've talked to several dealers that don't like the junk either. A turn-off for all concerned. On the other hand, I'm not into knives either. LOL. The last show I attended in Franklin had one table that looked like the aftermath of an elk hunt, complete with antlers, hides, etc. Perhaps a complaint box at the exit would help.....
  13. The Franklin show isn't worth the trip or admittance. When they first started this show, it was great..both levels full. Now, ( the last 3 times I've been there), no top level at all, bottom level not near full. Dealers not happy either. I'm going to the Nashville show. More to choose from. Bad idea to have two the same weekend anyway.
  14. I plan on attending the show at the fairgrounds on Sat. AM. Glad to hear it's staying for a while longer. As another poster said on another thread, I miss the shows with the two adjoining buildings. Can you advise the issues involved in bringing that back? Attendance seems to be there to support that. Dealers may be another matter. FWIW, the Franklin show isn't worth the trip or price for me. ( not affiliated with either show, JMHO)
  15. I went there for the last show. Never attended that one before, so went out of curiosity. Not worth the drive or money for me either. Decided to stay home this time. FWIW, hard to find much of a selection of reloading supplies, etc. at a gun show. The Reloading Bench in Mt. Juliet will have most anything you need. FWIW #2..the show in Franklin next weekend is a bust as well. This show started out great, and has gone downhill since.
  16. I'll agree. Show was pretty good, parking was scarce muddy. Needs a better location for space & parking tho.
  17. I'll be there Sat. AM. Denim jacket/Ret. Army cap. Holler at me if you see me. The Murf. RK show is one of the better ones they have left. The one in Gallatin last weekend was pretty good...exception..parking...scarce & muddy. The Franklin show isn't worth the trip or money. Been there the past 3 shows, hoping the crowd would improve. Not happening. First shows they had there were packed on both levels, now the bottom isn't full, nothing up top. Larry
  18. I have an old Ohaus scale I've had since the late 60's. My next scale will be a RCBS 5-0-5. Get a set of scale weights to keep check on accuracy...piece of mind.
  19. Agree. Haven't tried Bullseye, but HS6 works great for me. I have loaded 7.8 grs. on up to 8.0 with no problems. 7.7 was a bit too light to cycle the slide. Start low and work up as always. XDm full size. Edit: 155gr. Hornady XTP for above load.
  20. Welcome to TGO from a neighbor to the East.
  21. I have a XDm 40 , full size. Currently using Hornady XTP 155 gr. for target shooting. Using Hogdon HS-6, 7.8 grs. Works fine in this particular gun. Different gun, different recoil spring, different matter. Have also worked up to 8.0 grs. without a gun problem. Just wanted to keep it on the low side for targets. Follow the reloading manual for the bullet you use, start low, work up to where it functions best for you. Good luck, be safe.
  22. We have Truglo on our duty Glock 22s. Work great. I have Trijicon on my XDm. Works great also. Can't really see much difference.
  23. Soapy, welcome to TGO. Medically retired here as well in '68, Army. Thank you for your service to your country. Go ahead & get your permit & for your wife as well. Much better to have it & not be able to carry in some places than to need it & not have it. I fully understand the difficult financial time, I'm not riding around in a Mercedes either. Wish you the best, brother.........
  24. Thanks, guys/gals. Great website for us TN folks. Hope all have a great Christmas & New Year, and certainly last, but not least, a great year in the State Legislature. Hope we can get some more vital work passed, in spite of Harwell.
  25. I agree with this post. Been to both, no problems whatsoever. I have been in the Amory often. Most all merchandise is laid out as you stated so you can help yourself. They let you browse to your hearts content. Help is available if needed. Personally, I don't need someone hovering me.. just let me look, If I need something, I'll ask. Another great store for reloading supplies is the Reloaders Bench in Mt. Juliet, just off I-40, to the right. Small building, but packed with goodies.
