  1. Can't say about the new stuff, but I owned a couple of their revolvers, in .357 & 44 mag years ago. Great guns then.
  2. Likely that was the case. The door has gotten crowded at times. I just posted what this guy said. Didn't ask why. Regardless, you can just walk a few feet away.
  3. MY best guess is there is likely more to the story than reported in this article. I'll wait until the full story come to light. I will say this much, if the off duty cop ID'ed himself as the article says, why did the guy run into his house. Something stinks here. JMHO
  4. FWIW. This "is" a true story, BTW, my squad leader, for a while in 'Nam, in '67, was a Seminole Indian from the Everglades in Fla. I saw in Time Magazine years later, where he had killed & ate a panther ( black ?). Got into all kinds of trouble with the Fla. Fish & Game + National Fish & Wildlife folks, as this was on the "endangered species" list. So, panthers do exist in the Eastern U.S. Can't say what color it was, but, not impossible, I suppose. On the other hand, a good photo always helps!
  5. "The Truth Is Out There"
  6. If he's going hunting, as said before, the Hunters' Safety Course is mandatory. After that he can take it further if desired or needed, elsewhere. You can start with gun safety at home.
  7. Can't name one off the top of my head, but likely most would work with you. Just check around. Any that won't, would be a good idea to move on anyway. Visit the gun shows. Better selection there. Find one you like, then check for prices at a store or online. Good luck to you. You'll get there.
  8. Tried full name & address, no results. Used last name only, finally showed up. LOL Guess you have to work at it & be dedicated to use this database.
  9. From a LEO point of view, this whole incident was a royal screw up form beginning to end. Fortunately, it came out fairly well. Could have been a disaster. Very similar incident happened in Lebanon a few years ago, with bad results. Wrong house, dead innocent occupant. An apology would have been in order in the OP here, at least. Judge should have complied as well. Sort it out afterward.
  10. Erik is probably right, at least in the near future. With fuel prices rising like a Saturn rocket, ammo & reloading prices will follow suit soon. I did notice, on the other hand, while browsing the 'net', that "some" ammo prices have gone down somewhat. Midway had some UMC on sale. How long will it last? Who knows. My ammo stock is in pretty good shape, as are reloading supplies. If a bargain comes along I can't refuse, then I'll buy some, other wise , not. Besides, Obama will have gas prices down to $2 gal. soon, right?

    Wilson

Personally, never drank the 1911 koolaid. For those who have, that's great. To each his own. Only one I ever shot was when I was in Uncle Sam's Army in Basic in '66. Can't really justify spending big bucks with Wilson, etc. for a weapon that has an edge in paper punching at 50 yds. I want something that works at defensive range when it's on the line. Wilson is a good weapon, but so is Glock, XDm, S&W, etc. Blood trail is similar.
  12. Your thought may have some merit. As I was walking into the last Goodman show, I overheard two gents talking. One asked the other about his gun ( for sale, trade, etc). One replied he couldn't talk to him there, Goodman wouldn't allow it, or some words to that effect. Guess things are tightening up in that regard. The guys were standing just outside the entrance door. Likely each show has it's own rules. Sales among law abiding individuals, are still legal, as far as I know. Have seen some post signs requiring sales outside to be (?) ft. away from the door. Bottom line, their show, their rules. take it or leave it. Bowing to pressure?
  13. +1 for this. Hope that battle works out like you said. Love to sit somewhere on a hilltop & watch.
  14. Glad to learn the Fed. law finally came on board with me. Been doing it all along at the high school football games in Trousdale Co. Never been arrested yet. Of course, there's not a lot of Feds hanging around Hartsville. LOL U.S. Army Retired
  15. Low & left is normal for the 709, according to reports I have read. Been wanting one myself, and as soon as finances permit, I intend to make that happen. Been fondling this little gun at gun shows, wife likes it as well. Enjoy your new toy, LOL.
  16. Haven't been on S&Ws site, but Springfields site isn't all that great either.
  17. My wife started off with a 40 S&W Taurus 24/7. Worked good for a while until she developed a wrist problem ( not gun related ) & couldn't handle the weight of the gun or the recoil. Good idea to start small & work up.
  18. The ideal situation would be if you can find a store that will let you try out several & see what works. At best you may find what works for you, at worst, you'll eliminate a few. Good luck, & welcome to the club.
  19. What Mike said. No HCP, no carry, "unless" it is a legal hunting weapon "during" hunting season. Without a permit, no loaded guns in the campground, even if legal for hunting.
  20. True. If you are allowed by a law enf. agency, & follow Dept. policy, they will cover you. Other than that, you're on your own. At least that's my Dept. policy, and others that I know of. Laws sometimes change...policy sometimes change. Be "certain" you know what they are as it relates to you. Ignorance can be a killer in court.
  21. Not to make light of the situation, but this would be understandable at a gas station, but the produce dept? Walmart does play funny little games with prices. Have caught 'em at it. I don't care for tomatoes anyway, but wouldn't draw down on someone over one, or the price. Likely, underlying issues at work here, as well. As someone else said, this doesn't make us look good in the gen. public eye.
  22. I keep primers & powder stored in separate locations as well. Both are inside the house tho. Don't have an outside facility where I can control temp. & moisture. It's a safe setup. Edit to add.... in addition to the reloading bench, also have DirecTV, Computer, Verizon internet. A real "man cave". Never have to move....unless the wife says so, of course, LOL. Pretty neat, actually.
  23. OS, the 709 was 1st. then the 740.
  24. >1 this. Gonna need more support to prevent tipping forward, even with angle brackets to the wall. Good start, but like another poster stated, you're gonna want to expand. Regardless, enjoy. I built my latest bench from scratch, with 2x4s for legs & table top support & 1 1/2 " table top, angle bracketed to the wall studs. This works fine for me, so far, but your setup may be different. My top is 2'x4' BTW. Added shelves above and below top. Still could use more space. Just no more available here. No such thing as too much space. LOL
  25. Well, in this particular issue of AR, Taurus has 1 ad, while Kimber has 5. Springfield as 2, etc. While I'll agree, as I said in an earlier post, that I don't see the 740 as Handgun of the Year, I can't see bashing it either. To each, his/her own.
