  1. Steelharp, can't really answer your question, but would guess a military pilot would have a crack shot if there is an opening. The pilots in "Nam saved our bacon, and especially mine, many times. They are my heroes. Those boys could & would fly into anything. Lifeflight would be a piece of cake compared to that enviornment. Have him keep his feet wet & wait for an opportunity. Thank him for his service & I wish him the best.
  2. Used to do this years ago, mid to late '60s. Had a long bow. Very good with that thing. 55# pull, spool, 110# text braided line. After I got my legs shot up in 'Nam, couldn't handle stringing the thing up very well & traded for a compound bow. Never could get back to the degree of accuracy I had with the other one. Lot of fun tho, with carp, etc. Go for it, you'l enjoy it. Good practice for deer season as well..
  3. Wife had a Taurus 24/7 in 40 S&W. Good gun, just turned out to be too much for her. I currently have a PT709, also a good gun. Carry it in my front pocket. Haven't had any taurus issues. Most run down Taurus for the same reasons they do anything else. Lincoln costs more than a Ford. Both arrive at the same time.
  4. It's a good start. Just wonder what "strict scruinty" means, exactly.
  5. Interesting story. I've never had a home alarm system, for some of the reasons you encountered. The alarm ads bug me in that they do exactly as yours did, call the homeowner first, then the police may be notified. A lot can happen in that length of time. The alarms that are connected to our Sheriffs Dept. go straight to dispatch. A Dep. is notified & he must respond, even if it may be a false alarm. Policy. Regardless, it still takes time for an officer to respond, which could be too late. Better than nothing, especialy if no one is home. That piercing alarm makes it mighty difficult to hear an intruder in the house as well. They serve a limited purpose, but as another poster said, it may be false security. Make sure you cover your own butt as much as possible. You'll be the first on the scene. Glad yours turned out ok.
  6. Thankfully, not everyone is a LIberal idiot.
  7. As Jonnin said, as long as you feel selfconscious & need to ask the question you asked, you'll never feel comfortable OCing. If you can handle the public scrutiny & hassle that goes with it, you're ok. It's legal. You can field opinions & advice, but the end result is in your court. JMHO
  8. Paul folks, you can moan til the cows come home, but he has as much chance as a one-legged man at a butt kicking. We now have one option only, and not a good one at that, but it is what it is. Romney. Other alternative is the new gay candidate, Obama. Take your pick........
  9. Man. AR, you ain't never been wrong, LOL. I long for the day when the state of Cal .sinks into the Pacific.
  10. Well, that's funny. Just not ha, ha funny.
  11. Probably not a bad deal overall, but looking at the individual items, $95 for the belt, is obscene.
  12. On the high School sports forum I belong to & a mod, there was this one guy that was literally begging for points. He evidently was obsessed. Think he finally gave up & left the board. Woods are full of 'em.
  13. It may be about time to play Cowboys & Panthers with this bunch.
  14. Dan Wesson Walther Springfield Glock Ruger Colt S&W Taurus All were good for me, just some better than others.
  15. I bought a PT709 several months ago. Good little gun. I carry it in my front pocket with a Blackhawk pocket holster I got at Wallyworld for $10. I wear TruSpec 24/7 tac pants, 65/35. Lots of room in all pockets. NIce little pocket on each side for the extra mag. It is a bit too big for my jeans tho. Grip sticks out a bit. Good gun for the money, also they come in 40 S&W now as well ( PT740 ).
  16. Well, it doesn't end with drones. There was an article in the Nashville paper a day or so ago, that Sumner Co. has installed cameras on top of patrol cars to read license plates from all 4 directions, and store them for future reference, supposedly to catch BGs. Big Brother is expanding at a rapid rate.
  17. I went Sat AM. Waste of money.
  18. Quite true. That does tend to leave a bad taste in your mouth. I've been down that road with various products myself, as everyone else, I suppose. Doesn't really make you want to take a second bite of the apple. I would go out on a limb, tho, & suggest if you get the opportunity, take a bite out of the PPQ. Think you'll find your appetite will increase.
  19. One of the rare complaints I've heard or read on the P99 series. Most say just the opposite. Possibly you did get your hands on a bad one. The PPQ is very accurate.
  20. Sounds like a personnel change. New guy at the wheel?
  21. Agree. I'd love to see the IRS abolished & the fools in the unemployed roles. Flat tax, no reams of tax forms. Just need one about the size of a post-it note. Too many yrs behind me to ever see that.
  22. David, you're right about the attention span. The general public has short memories. I'm 68 yrs of age, and I've seen this happen time & again. Memories get short, hot topic comes along to overshadow the subject, intentionally or otherwise. It happens. I'm like an old elephant, I don't forget. The 2nd Amend. is near & dear to me. Problem is, who voted for & who against? Secrecy, closed doors BS. Some of the butt holes have little or no opposition. My rant has started, I'm done.......
  23. I was in NM once for about 3 days. Wifes daughter & son-in-law were on an Airforce base there. Only problem I had was I had to leave my gun in the hotel room to go on base, or jump thru 43 hoops to register it & leave it with Provost office. Gritted my teeth & toughed it out. Don't expect to ever go there again.
  24. The PPS is a nice smaller gun. Wish I had gone that route now instead of the Taurus PT709. Wife liked it & was going to use it when she got her HCP. Don't think that's going to happen. Been carrying the 709 in my front pocket. Good gun as well, just not up to the PPS.
