  1. Mac. I never tried to roast 'em, I ate them right out of the hull. Suppose roasting would be good tho. Growing up in the country, my Mom & I would pick them up in the fall, and I'd fix me a small pan of nuts, & eat them in the winter. She also made pies with them, No pecans around then. Good stuff tho.
  2. I've often wondered why hickory nuts are plentiful some years, some not. Got curious after Greg's thread & Googled it. "Experts" say they run in 3 yr. cycles. In my experience hunting over the years, "in some areas", this seems to be true. Squirrels follow the food. YMMV........
  3. I had one when I was in 'Nam. It was stolen along with all my other valuables, after I was wounded, and in the aid station. The SOB's stole $175 I had saved up for R&R, my wallet, watch. Left my wedding ring. Didn't realize this until I was in the Army hospital in Tokyo. That said, Zippos' are tough, hard to wear one out. Would be interesting to know the story behind this one.
  4. For a beginner, I'd vote for the Lebanon Gun Shop, as well. Class held by a NRA certified instructor. 2 consecutive 2 hour classes. Get some hands on, plus instructor to answer your questions. Located on 102 Hartman Dr., near Burger King. 615-547-9600. Good folks to do business with, have bought a few guns there. Good luck with your new hobby. I've been at it since 1968.
  5. Appears to be a canine of some sort, not a cat. Front leg seems to be stepping over a limb or something. Of course, my expert badge is in the cleaners, LOL
  6. Polls are aimed at a friendly audience. 95% of the people in this country will not agree on anything. And, I've never been invited either, unless you consider the crap on FB.
  7. Nice hand cannon, LOL. Mine had quite a bit of bite to it. Manageable tho.
  8. Years ago, back around '86 or so, I had a Dan Wesson 44 mag with a 8" heavy vent rib BBL. Got a mount for it from B Square in Ft. Worth. Clamped on, worked fine. Good luck with your venture, I'm sure you'll get it worked out. Killed a few deer with it, BTW.
  9. There was some, didn't really pay much attention to it. I was looking at other "stuff", LOL
  10. Got my first bi-focals at 45. Now on tri-focals/progressive lens. 45 seems to be the magic #.
  11. True, Dave. It's a shame that we have to get our collective asses kicked to bring the country together. WW1, WW11, 9-11. What's next?
  12. Went to the gun show at Lebanon this AM. Decent show, now put on by C&E Shows. Good crowd. Carried a pistol to sell, lots of look, no buyers. Not sure if any "panic buying" has set in yet, but seems that "panic pricing" has. Saw lots of AR/AK type rifles, priced at $1300 to $1600. These were run of the mill guns, not high end stuff.
  13. Lebanon Gun shop has a gunsmith. I know nothing about his work, haven't had the need for one. Might drop by or give 'em a call.
  14. I had the same problem. Read the ad, looked like the best thing since self rising flour. Carried my AR to do some target shooting sometime later after lubing. Ran very sluggish, barely function. Had one heck of a time cleaning the gun(s). Lesson learned. Stay the heck away from it.
  15. Can't wait to see how much it's going to cost to get rid of Pruitt. Some real talent in the AD's office the past few yrs, LOL.
  16. Hugh, I haven't tried either, but what I have works quite well for me, so no need to switch. Not all is for everyone tho. Go with what works for you. Glock makes a good gun, very reliable. Just not my cup of tea, LOL.
  17. I've only had do deal with one lately. Caught it in a live trap, shot it in the top of the head ( in the trap ), with a .22 short. No spray, end of skunk. Carried the trap away from the area, just in case, opened the end of the trap & dumped it out.
  18. If it fits well & shoots well, that's about as good as it gets. They just never fit me well.
  19. Nice discount, but NOT a Glock fan.
  20. I'm more interested in what the Senate does. Nothing that I really need, gun or ammo wise.
  21. When I was in Infantry training, at Ft. Jackson,SC, we were trained to "point shoot" with Daisy BB guns, no sights. Targets hanging in trees, bushes, in the woods. Long story short, it works reasonably close. 400 yds., not so much, LOL.
  22. PJ holsters in Bradenton,Fla. I've used them on my Walther PPS M2 & Walther PPQ. They are simple, light weight, fit close to the body, snap on the belt, made of kydex, inexpensive, $55, free shipping. Seems to fit your needs. Check 'em out. I have no connection to the co. Just good stuff.

    Quilts

Very nice quilts, RED. My Mom & Grandmothers, used to do the same when I was a little yonker. When Mom dies, there were 22 quilts in a storage box upstairs. I kept them for years, but finally decided to sell them, had to make room. Kept one that my Great Grandmother stitched my name on. These old handmade quilts are worth quite a good sum from collectors.
  24. The Shield red dot on Walther, doesn't have to be turned on & off, stays on. Normal batt. life 2 to 3 yrs.
