  1. You DID notice that WVU held #14 Clemson to 20 points before they started playing everyone on the bench? One team was playing effrective defense, one wasn't. Hence the score.
  2. Howdy! How did you find TGO?
  3. I have some of each, also a pager and a Palm Pilot. Some day, someone will want one of these marvels, and only us old guys will have them. Bowl games (and most college athletics) are about money -- not sports, not athletes, not the quest for excellence. Money. That said, did you see what my WVU did to Clemson?
  4. How do ya like them apples ORANGES?
  5. Gee - I wonder what that proves? Bill Maher doesn't know anybody who didn't vote for Obama.

    Gun Explodes

"Alcohol was present". The initial report I saw said that a man was "shot at a party". I can see an agenda if you can't.
  8. He got a nice, warm cell and 3 squares for the winter, didn't he?
  9. I, like many others, have stopped drinking in public since I started carrying. It simplifies things.
  10. To not make resolutions -- that way I won't disappoint people any more than usual.
  11. Bacon grease.
  12. Welcome!
  13. I suggest you read MBC's document on cast bullet hardness. At low target velocities, soft (12 BHN) cast lead is recommended to avoid leading.
  14. Personally, if the overclocked barrel bothered me, I'd sell the gun and buy another. I've never heard of shimming a barrel to correct overclocking. I have heard of removing and rethreading the barrel, recut the length, rechamber the barrel and reassemble. Sounds like this gun isn't worth the expense.
  15. I used an off-the-shelf (or out of the bucket) barrel and GI slide and no fitting was required. I did have to hand polish one side of the hammer to relieve a slight binding condition, but that was the only hand-fitting required on my pistol. It was not a nightmare to assemble, far from it, and the only thing I needed a gunsmith for was to stake the plunger tube to the frame. I was too cheap to buy the tool for one use. You don't have to be a gunsmith to build one, and it's possible to build one out of a bag of miscellaneous parts, assuming you can still find all of the parts. If RIA can make a functional 1911 for $400 (or whatever they sell for), what are you getting in a $2000 Ed Brown? A name, a pretty finish, and probably a little more accuracy. I'd rather put my $2000 to other uses.
  16. I got a few trinkets, and a visit from my 17 month old granddaughter. She makes me happy!
  17. I've done it, 30 years ago. It's possible to build a perfectly functional 1911 from gun show parts. I don't know that it's economical compared to buying a basic RIA 1911 (when I did it, there were no inexpensive 1911's - Colt or Detonics, that was it), but you still get the learning experience. You don't need Brown or Baer parts to build a functional pistol. There is no relationship between cost and quality. There IS a relationship between cost and brand.
  18. I OD'd on Johnny Walker Red at at wedding reception once and did the polka with the bride's mother. I think the band was playing a waltz. Couldn't stand the smell of scotch for years afterwards.
  19. It's just David messin' with ya.
  20. Welcome! You're not alone -- I fired my first rifle, an M14, at age 22. Made the mistake of graduating during the draft.

    Looking Good!

Merry Christmas to you on this board too, Pete!
  22. Neither can I, but I can put a lot of holes into center mass. That's good enough for defensive shooting - I ain't aiming for the upper lip.
  23. Ezra Brooks whiskey is much better than the price would indicate. I believe it's made in Missouri. Old Overholt rye is harder to find than Jim Beam Rye, but it's better. Gordon's gin is as good as any gin I've ever tried. Vodka is vodka Cruzano rum is fine. and, of course, if you're mixing, you can't beat Everclear or Golden Grain. p.s. - sippin' Tequila starts at about $30/fifth. I'm partial to Herradura Reposado. All of the cheaper stuff should be poured back into the horse.
  24. It'd be a good use for back issues of The Tennessean and a few other papers. Those slick pages out of the Sears catalog were dangerous anyhow -- sprained my elbow once.
  25. Consider this: Blackhawk Serpa Holster |
