  1. Tennessee law does not protect you from prosecution or lawsuits resulting from your interpretation of a lawful response. I carry to protect me and mine -- I'm not the Lone Ranger.
  2. In the last two weeks I've bought a 155 AH AGM battery and a 2kw Champion sine wave generator. Both Cabela's and Champion have free shipping deals on the generators. Speaking of gardening, I planted leaf lettuce and spinach in my raised bed last September. It came up and 'idled' all winter. Come spring, it took off and I had lettuce and spinach before any of my neighbors. I thought that was neat. '
  3. That's a beautiful dog, with the heart of a lion.
  4. That's not what Obama meant. You don't have to search for the deeper meaning of his words - just take them in their common meaning and context. If you have a business you were a winner in life's lottery. You should share with those who didn't win.
  5. Who is the leading opponent of Corker? I intend to vote against him, but I'd like to cast my vote for the candidate with the best chance of beating him in the primary. My goal is to get him out of office, not necessarily to replace him with the ideal candidate. Just out of office will work for me. Who do we need to rally around to get that ass out of Washington?
  6. Welcome!
  7. #1 "But she was unarmed!!" She should have armed herself.
  8. I need one of those for my driveway!
  9. Local store has a greeter at the entrance I use. I think Wal-Mart has learned how far they can push customers and have backed off a bit.
  10. Wow, and they've narrowed down the race choices to only 5, when there are only 3 races. What do it mean?
  11. They're ignoring the Constitution now - what good would another amendment do? There's nothing wrong with the Constitution, but there's something BIG wrong with the people we elect!
  12. I'm always amazed by the number of people who've never played the game, but know how to run an auto company.
  13. The words don't mean anything to him and shouldn't to us either. He's windy enough to blow up an onion bag.
  14. Thoreau was a parasite. As a kid, with no accomplishments, he built a shack on someone else's land with free materials and felt qualified to lecture the rest of us - sort of an "Occupy Walden Pond". Just my opinion of that hippie - feel free to make it yours. Returning to the topic - you're wrong. Happiness is possible, at least for some people.
  15. All they have to do is put walls around sections of Grand River or Michigan Avenue. No construction required.
  16. Give me your phone # and I'll call at some random time and yell "BUGOUT, BUGOUT, BUGOUT", and you 'bugout'. That's the difference.
  17. Yes, pretty much so from personal experience. It's a state of mind that seemed to come easier with age. That striving for more achievement, recognition and toys is the Rat Race that almost everyone gets tired of. "Blessed are the easily pleased, for they shall enjoy heaven on earth."
  18. Welcome! Come on down! Bring pasties!
  19. If you're lucky, you'll reach contentment. It's not the same as wealth or fame, but it's much more satisfying.
  20. Well, you might find yourself hated (and threatened) by people you've never met. Worked for me!
  21. 3 of them, all grown, married, college graduates & productive members of our dysfunctional society. Plus 3 of the cutest granddaughters you ever saw.
  22. Don't try to put words in my mouth. I differentiate between minor children and adult children. We all try to raise our children with wisdom and good advice, and a little punishment when it's deserved. When they reach adulthood, we hope they've also reached maturity and learned something along the way. I don't believe in coercing adults into behavior they don't want. I don't like to see homeless people sleeping in the streets, druggies wasting away from their habits, and criminals in striped suits picking up trash along the highway, but it's all a result of the sum of choices they've made in their lives -- make good choices and good things happen -- make bad choices and bad things happen. I'm willing to leave them to their results. It's called Liberty.
  23. Damyankee is one word. Welcome!
  24. How will they develop character if they never learn to face temptation or peer pressure and say 'NO'? If we withhold everything harmful from children, aren't they just birds in cages? Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement (to coin a phrase ).
