  1. There are so damned many ignorant voters who believe that a vote for a 3rd party candidate with NO chance of being elected is an effective protest policy that I despair of retaining my freedom. You damned fools get what you deserve, and the rest of us get what YOU deserve also. Obama is smarter than all of you put together.
  2. I understand that there's a 'conservative' dem running for the dem slot against Corker. I'd vote for him ilo Corker. I voted to throw out the judges also. Throw the bastards out!
  3. I voted for Zach, and if he doesn't win I may vote for the dem in the general election. I've never voted for a dem in a general election before, but Corker (D) has to go.
  4. He just wants to take a bite out of freedom, not swallow the whole thing.
  5. Howdy Hoosier!
  6. Alabama's a good place - I spent some time at Redstone in the last century. Best of luck!
  7. It's a lot more difficult to shut down all shortwave radio communications. I was on a 75 meter net this morning that involved, among others, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina and West Virginia amateur radio stations, both fixed and mobile. Probably a 400 mile radius and it was a 'local' net.
  8. You don't have to permanently attach an HF antenna to your truck, just the mount. The common, cheap Hamstick is one of the best (if not the best) mobile antennas for 40-10 meters. You can put a quick-disconnect on the antenna and base and mount it only when you need it. I have a custom tiltable mount that mounts to my receiver hitch in place of the drawbar. My truck is all black, gray and chrome and I'm picky about the appearance also. Hamsticks come in black.
  9. Most security is mere eyewash. Agree with all that I'm not going to agree to be frisked. I don't need to go anywhere that bad.
  10. I'm using 18v Porter Cable tools and like them fine.
  11. If you want to be able to transmit on the ham bands AND cb using the same radio, there's no such animal. Many ham hf rigs suitable for mobile use will receive the cb frequencies, but not transmit on them. I don't know of any VHF/uhf radios that will receive cb. The Icom 7000 deserves a serious look in my opinion. I've used the previous version, the IC-706, mobile for many years. Vhf/uhf can be combined into one antenna. Hf requires it's own, separate antenna. Effective hf mobile antennas are usually roughly 6-10 ft tall.
  12. Where in east TN? If you can find a ham radio club in your area they may do testing. My club in McMinn Cty tests on alternate months. I'm a VE too.
  13. The General written test I took in 1976 was harder than the Extra written I took in 2000.
  14. If carpenter bees left my deck and fence alone, I'd leave them alone. I don't kill for sport. Lots of other insects pollinate, and they leave me alone.

  16. You'll know before you leave the room whether you've passed or not. If you pass, you should have a call sign issued and be able to be on the air within a week. The paper license will follow in the mail.
  17. Yep, we're here!
  18. What if the BG has a gun and shoots you in return? Shooting to wound is never a good idea -- if you only wound the BG, be prepared to shoot him again really soon. Shoot to STOP the threat.

    Ticks

Walmart has permethrin in sporting goods. Farm co-ops and old-timey hardware stores carry permethrin in dog spray/dip formulations. The veterinary permethrin is a lot cheaper than the people type. If you'll look it up on the web, you'll find that ticks drink DEET, but permethrin will knock 'em for a loop. I'm taking antibiotics now for an infected tick bite -- little bastard latched onto my shoulder blade near my armpit. It helps to have someone else help check you for ticks, as there are areas on your back that you can't reach and don't normally see. Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever is a nasty disease - people die of it.
  20. My wife carries. My daughters bear their own responsibility. If you were to come upon one of my relatives being stabbed in a car, I'd expect you to exercise sound judgement, considering both your circumstances and theirs. I don't expect other people to protect me and mine. That's why we carry.
  21. You can't hold someone at gunpoint unless you're willing to pull the trigger. Also, while holding someone at gunpoint, some other well-meaning citizen/vigilante may come up and shoot YOU.
  22. I was there Monday, didn't enter thru ER, didn't see any signs.
  23. Reductio ad Hitlerum.
  24. Having a Marlin 1894 in .44 Magnum, I'm impressed by the Marlin's quality.
  25. Totally different situation!
