I was advised to fill the old holes with a ball of aluminum foil.  Keeps them from boring out the plug, I'm told.   I've had a fence rail nearly destroyed by a woodpecker going after the grub inside the rail!   PS - got 1 today (so far).  Cool weather seems to slow down their activity.

I used crushed walnut hull, left over from when I changed the grit in my tumbler.  2 grains of Bullseye, over-powder (5/16") and over-shot (3/8") wads cut from card stock with gasket punches.  Not a recommendation for you or anyone, just what I use.

I got 4 suicide-bomber terrorist carpenter bees today, with 5 rounds.  Missed the first one.  :D   Get some!

Unless you're hunting squirrels, my first choice would be a 20.  Heck, I'll buy the .410 slugs from you.   .410 ammo is darned expensive unless you load your own, and getting set up to load .410 is darned expensive unless you shoot a lot of them.  Been there, done that.
