  1. The last one was small and crowded.
  2. Yeah, I know -- moved here from Michigan.
  3. Now there's a good ideal. Why didn't I think of that first?
  4. Ain't that beautiful -- just enough snow!
  5. They seem to like the FNFAL (compared to the AK, AR, etc) and were almost ecstatic about the Mauser, which was only mentioned in passing (and held to be superior, or more expensive, than an SMLE) and therefore must be nearly perfect! I guess the M1 carbine must be a perfect firearm.
  6. Come on down and stay awhile, Pilgrim. Leave the snow shovels and heavy coats at home - makes you look like a furrinner in these parts.
  7. So Vick gets out and Burress takes his place. Burress may never play again you know -- for all sorts of reasons. Saw a picture of him leaving the courtroom flanked by his lawyers - he's a freakin' Giant! (no pun intended)
  8. Almost forgot -- after sanding the stock to bare wood, wet it, let it dry and sand again. Wetting it will raise the little 'feathers' at the ends of the grains and allow you to remove them. Then fill and finish.
  9. Looks good! On the stock, if you use a wood filler before oiling, it will fill the grain and sanding marks and give you a finish like a baby's bottom. I believe Birchwood Casey markets a filler for gun stocks.
  10. Nope, I spelled it as I intended to. Semper Fi!
  11. Handgun combat grips are frequently asymmetrical. There's a cutout on the left grip to allow speedloaders to be used. Putting thumbrests on grips automatically doubles a manufacturer's inventory complexity, and complexity costs money.
  12. If you don't trust your mag springs, leave your spare mags loaded and in the safe. Take them out once in a while and try them for function. If they're going to fail, it's better that they fail in the safe or at the range than in a self-defense situation, no? There's no reason to leave your spare mags unloaded unless you can't find or afford enough ammo to load all of them. Unloaded mags are as useless as fuel left in the truck is to a pilot. I have no doubt that mag springs can fail. Sometimes the designers cut corners to package too many rounds in too little space, or the manufacturer gets a bad batch of material or just makes a batch of bad springs. Well-designed mag springs made of good material by a good manufacturer will not wear out in normal usage. You can expect them to last millions of cycles - that's loading and unloading the mags millions of times. If you're carrying a compact 1911 with 10 rd mags, I'd expect the mag springs and the recoil springs to fail on a regular basis. In that case, I'd replace the springs on a regular basis before they fail, AKA 'preventive maintenance'. But, then, I wouldn't carry a pistol on which I expected the springs to fail.
  13. I've changed my feelings about Afghanistan since BHO got elected. I know what our soldiers, marines and their families have been through in Iraq. I had a son-in-law wounded in Iraq and have another one there now. Obama stated recently that his objective in Afghanistan isn't necessarily 'victory'. In that case, I'm in favor of pulling out immediately and bringing our troops home. There'll be another battle somewhere, sometime, and maybe our President will try to win the next one.
  14. Wouldn't do it or advise anyone else to do it. I'd feel bad if I sent a couple of rubber bullets downrange and got a couple of lead ones in return. "When it's time to shoot, shoot!" -- Tuco
  15. Nope!
  16. Bear in mind that the .38 was a .38 Colt, not a .38 Special and that both rounds were ball ammo, not hollow points like the .44. However - the .44 was awesome!!
  17. He lost half his grip on the .44 and almost buried the front sight in his forehead! That Smith & Wesson .500 looked darned painful to shoot.
  18. Today, just like most days, I'm carrying a Smith 638 in a Kramer pocket holster. It's still too warm for the K-frame OWB with a cover shirt.
  19. I keep my holster collection hidden in a bag in the garage and never mention my wife's shoes.
  20. Welcome! Like the man said, where in Canada? It's a BIG country. My son married a Canadian girl and is in the process of moving to Port McNicoll (near Midland and Barrie) Ontario. Too much snow for me.
  21. Red dots are fun too.
  22. They can't stand the heat.
  23. If you go buy a .38 snubbie you'll always own one. Think about that.
  24. I have a Guardian .380 and a Smith J-frame in .38. I carry the J-frame 98% of the time I carry (in hot weather) and don't carry the Guardian at all any more. It seems that when I can carry the .380 I can also carry the .38 and I always choose the .38. I carried the Guardian daily for 6 months during a tour of duty in campground maintenance because it was the biggest I could carry conveniently. It survived being sweated on (heavily) in my back pocket without ANY issues. The mags tend to blacken a bit when sweated on regularly but they clean up nicely. Those brass cartridge cases however turned green. The Guardian is a fine pistol for its size and caliber. I believe that if people will only try a snubbie in a quality pocket holster they'll stop carrying other pistols in short order. My snubbie was the first carry pistol I ever bought, back around '98. Since then I've carried a Smith .40, a SIG .40, and a Smith K-frame but I keep coming back to the snubbie. I shoot better with the bigger guns, but the snubbie fits in my pocket in hot weather and it has laser grips on it now.
