I can't see that it would hurt a thing to put some silicone grease or even vaseline on both sides of the gasket before assembly. Should reduce seepage. IANAP.

powder availablility? Unique and Bullseye
enfield replied to seez52's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I just received 3 lbs of Bullseye that I ordered from Cabela's about 6 weeks ago. -
Wasp/Hornet spray works. Trouble is, by the time you find them, they've usually bored a hole and sometimes have laid eggs. I sprayed the wasp spray into one hole and killed the little bugger. Other holes I tried filling with caulk and that caused the grub to dig it's way out thru the caulk and kack in the yard. I've had the deck, fence and shed professionally sprayed twice this year and still have some damage -- from woodpeckers, not the bees. Woodpeckers absolutely destroy your wood trying to get to the bees and/or grubs. Where the bee puts a single hole in the bottom of the board, the woodpecker puts a dozen in the top or side.

Now, do we get to see the Schofield, assuming JHat wasn't just trolling for a date?

RCBS Rockchucker, but I'm partial to Hornady dies (better value).

I sold it 39 years ago.

23 as I recall, but that was a long time ago! A Winchester semi-auto .22 that I still have.

Best materials for home when disaster strikes?

That cell phone will make a dandy paperweight during a natural disaster. I can barely get a Verizon signal now and I ain't that far from civilization and I don't live in a hole. -
I love it! This is the kind of issue that will lead to a state-wide law allowing concealed carry on public property with no silly opt-out provision. ****************************************************8 Guns in parks law creates confusion among lawmakers Alison Morrow Updated: 9/1/2009 7:19:07 PM Posted: 9/1/2009 5:57:52 PM Although Tennessee state legislators voted earlier this year to allow guns in all public parks, the law, which took effect Tuesday, has met some obstacles. Mainly because 70 local governments have banned it. That leaves questions about where park visitors can, or cannot, bring their guns. Some park regulations, like Knoxville's Edgewood Park, are clear-cut. "For at least the last 47 years, no guns have been allowed in any city park or recreation facility and that's still the case today," said Knoxville Vice Mayor Bob Becker. Knoxville has had a public park gun ban since at least 1962. The new state law only affects local governments that did not have an ordinance prior to 1986. However, figuring out where the gun ban applies in Knoxville can get trickier, because Knox County allows guns in parks, as it did not have an ordinance prior to 1986. "There are alot of parks throughout our community and most people don't know the difference between a city and county park," said Knox County Parks and Recreation Senior Director Doug Bataille. The Turkey Creek Greenway is a prime example. The path begins as Knoxville property -- no guns allowed -- but it runs through Knox County property, which allows guns. To make matters more confusing, the grenway eventually becomes Farragut land, which has a gun ban. There are numerous other cases like it. "I don't think we could sign that in a way that would be effective to let people know when you're on and off property. It would take hundreds of signs to do that," Bataille said. Other issues include how to enforce the law when city or county property backs up to privately owned land, or when parks host public school athletic events. "So, if you're allowed to bring guns into a park but not into a school event, how do we address that?" Bataille said. Still, some lawmakers believe the policy works. "I don't think this is that complicated an issue," Becker said. Still, just like the laws themselves, opinions aren't uniform either. "One of the concerns we have is having a policy that's the same across the community so park users know what to expect," Bataille said. Knoxville City Council members and Knox County Commissioners are expected to again discuss the issue this month.

I'm about 4 years into a 30 year study of the use of Mobil 1 0W50 as a general purpose gun lubricant. So far, so good. I think I'll make it on 1 quart or less. That's pretty cheap for good oil. RemOil must be about $50-$60 per quart and it claims to be 100% petroleum distillate and nothing more, i.e. mineral oil. Mobil 1 is much more than that.

I don't understand this preoccupation with springs. There must be a lot of bad information circulating outside of internet gun forums. There's also some bad info circulating on the internet. You gain nothing from routinely changing springs on a gun. You actually run a higher risk of replacing a known good spring with a bad spring or messing something else up. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Use lead shot. If the box doesn't specify that the shot is steel, bismuth or unobtainium, you can be sure it's lead. The non-lead shot is used for hunting migratory waterfowl and is usually more expensive than lead.

Your chamber length is no more than 3 inches and is possibly as short as 2-1/2". I don't know if 2-1/2" ammo is commercially available. It's not safe to shoot modern 2-3/4" or 3" shells in a short-chambered gun. see http://www.billhanusbirdguns.com/archive01.html

I'm not a 1911 expert, but I don't believe that the trigger overtravel screw is the root cause of your problem. I think the manufacturer or a gunsmith still needs to take a close look at that pistol.

Yep. You have to be a contributor to the board (Benefactor) to use the For Sale section.

ammo for a destructive device
enfield replied to nightrunner's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
No, the "Street Sweeper" shotgun is classified as a destructive device and it shoots ordinary 12 gauge rounds, IIRC. -
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Close but no cigar. The .38 S&W Special is based on the .38 Colt cartridge, not the 38 S&W. .38 S&W won't chamber in a .38/.357 handgun but .38 Colt will. And now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Your neighbors make a rattle noise when they're fully loaded? I usually sing or tell really bad jokes.

I always sit mine, a Lyman, on the floor. I built a timer for it so I can toss in the brass, set the timer for 1-8 hours and go do something else. That's handy since my tumbler is in a storage shed.

EVERYBODY makes a 1911. Nobody makes M66's. Get the Smith while you can -- the supply is limited.
