If I were carrying a gun in the woods for protection against big 4-legged hairy critters I'd want FMJ or hard-cast lead, preferably in a caliber that starts with a 4 or 5. If I were carrying for hunting or defense against big 2-legged hairy critters then I'd opt for HP's or SP's.

Interesting question - I have a similar situation with an old friend.

I've had Blazer .380 come apart in my pocket. The top round in a mag disassembled itself and all I had was a primed case as the top round in a mag. I never bought any more of it. Even though .380 ammo is a bit scarce, and premium carry ammo even more so, I would carry a different gun rather than carry target ammo in my .380's.
