  1. Agree that we are not looking good if these are the best we have. Mitt is a "closet liberal". Newt has a lot of baggage that the Dems will use against him (marriage infidelity, multiple divorses, lobbyist, House record with their banking system, etc) . Ron Paul may be what is needed but too libertarian for too many voters. Rick S is too unknown by too many voters. Besides too many of the voters have a vested interest in keeping Obama and the give-aways and too many others don't have a clue about what is going on/won't learn and vote with their emotions, not brains.
  2. My mistake. No article just comments by OP. All are correct--we need the newsstory and facts.
  3. IMO, best advice is to use an attorney to draw up your Will, Power of Attorney (legal), and Durable Power of Attorney (medical). Check the yellow pages for a firm that states they do wills. The charge is worth the piece of mind that it is correct for your state. Mine, the wife's, and her mother's don't required an attorney and my attorney would not have written it with one of us as the executrix if it violated the law.
  4. Reinforces the point that has been made here numerous times: In TN it is against the law to be armed. Having a HCP is a defense against the crime of going armed. Maybe the police decided to act according to their interpretation of what they were told happened. They don't decide the outcome, the DA and possibly a judge/jury will do that. As for taking her HCP, they may be holding it along with her DL, etc, pending a decision by the DA on the case. Holding was used by the press, not confiscated even though it appears only the DOS can do either. Shows you that the police don't always know all the finer points of the law, but I will be at their mercy if I pull my weapon.
  5. Just proves once again that there is no "common sense" in the quirky state laws all over the US. Like TN allowing local governments to opt out of park carry but not requiroing the same type of posting that is required everywhere else.
  6. IMO, advertising like that just let them know what to expect and get ready ahead of time. The brother probably sent his sister thinking there would be a better chance he would open the door. Sad situation. I feel for his family and friends.
  7. I'm with mikegideon, but then I'm even older-Hire it out. Good alternative from gregintenn--Invite your buddies over for free beer and the Superbowl, then surprize 'em.
  8. Wrangler makes a belt (WallyWorld or Tractor Supply) for less--around $18-$23. It's 1 1/4" h by 3/16" thick and reversible so you get a dark brown and a black in one belt with a pewter looking buckle. Not slamming other makers but it is a sturdy work belt and I can buy a lot of them for what they charge.
  9. Hey Brian please read my post today on your original thread.
  10. I think your paper used the study that painted the picture they (you?) desired. A 1997 US Justice Dept survey of 14,285 state prison inmates found that amoung those who used a firearm during thier crime, .07% got it from a gun show, 1% from a flea market, 3.8% from a pawn shop, and 8.3% from a retail store. That's 13%. Are ypou trying to tell me that in one year the total went to 28%--a 115% increase. The other percentages are close enough to be credible but I doubt your 28%. Check out www.justfacts.com/guncontrol You'll also see some pretty interesting data on crime rates before and after right to carry laws are passed and low accident rates for firearms. Don't suppose your paper would like to publish any positives?
  11. One of my favorites, too. Have used it with some somewhat "anti" friends to lighten the conversation.
  12. Why not add cigarettes and tatoos. I don't care if someone spends their pay on either as they are free to choose how to spend their money, but I don't think my taxes should subsidize it. Test for tobacco and photograph their tatoos for comparison later.
  13. Can I get it in 12 ga ?
  14. I am a Precinct Officer in Coffee County (5 yrs) and was an Officer in Maury County (7 yrs). Although I have not had the formal training on the new law it is my understanding that nursing home residents are exempt from the photo ID requirement. Sworn Officers travel to the facility during the Early Voting period and allow residents the opportunity to vote. If their address changed due to moving into the nursing home they are helped with the paperwork to get a new registration for their current precinct. Believe me, I am not looking forward to the first election under this law! The voter ID law does not prohibit you from voting, per se. The person will fill out a Provisional Ballot (paper) instead of using the machine. The ballot is placed in a locked box that is delivered to the county election office when the polls close. It will be held for two days and if the person comes to the office with a valid ID their ballot will be added to the county"s count . You would be amazed at the number of people who show up at any precinct expecting to vote and are dumbfounded that they have to go to the precinct assigned based on their address. Or haven't voted since the last Presidential Elecrtion, have moved, and never changed their address with the election commission. Often they are now in a different precinct and can't believe they can't vote where they did four years ago. Rant over and I don't feel a bit better!
  15. Sign on door at Hero Gear in Winchester welcomes permit holders but asked that your weapon remain in your holster. Seems fair enough to me.
  16. 2.12 and -.31. I had a problem with questions that used the term "government" because I feel very differently about the Federal Gov't versus State or local government. My score would probably be different if I took two tests--both spelling out a different level of government.
  17. And all God's people said, "Amen"
  18. Check the family history on both sides. Might find what you looking for and it will have some family history, too. Also, don't overlook using a relative's last name as a first or middle name. For instance, Harrison is a last name way back in my family and one of my sisters named a kid that as a first name.
  19. My understanding is photo id for voting purposes is free to avoid the outlawed poll tax. Also, I think if you have a non-photo ID (over 65) you can swap it for free. The DMV has opened about 18 or so offices on Saturday JUST for voter id only. I doubt many folks who REALLY want to vote can't get the proper ID by March 6th. The ones who gain by fraud are the ones hollering the loudest.
  20. I think the difference might be that the shop was private property and the other locations are public property. Not that I agree with the Occupy Movement but property owners have the right to ask you to leave (and have you arrested for trespassing if you don't) versus the right to gather on public property. I can't have it both ways--either there is a right to assemble or there are no private property rights. Either I, or you or anyone else, can assemble in public to air my greviances or the Constitution and Bill of Rights are meaningless.
  21. Seems like early retirement of the beginnings of a "career criminal"in the making. Obviously his times in jail had not made the right impression on him.
  22. Wow, our legal system at a snail's pace! Sued in 2003, ruling in 2008, and attorney fees awarded in 2011. I'm not saying that the system should "rush to judgement" but 8 years to get to the attorney fees seems a tad lo.....ng. What's next, appeal in 2012, ruling in 2014, etc?
  23. Please, please, tel lme she doesn't have a HCP.
