TrickyNicky, I've never actually measured how off the first shots are, but this will give you an idea. I often shoot at pizza boxes 50-70 yards away and I aim dead center. There's been times where the first shot is at the edge of the box. Subsequent shots walk towards point of aim. I'm out of pizza, but I think the boxes are 18 x 18, so I might be off by as much as 9 inches for the first shot at times. However, this is a rough guess. Dolomite, I will look into the ear plug method you discribed. Thanks for the advice. Is this a common problem?

I thought that at first but the scope is on tight. I wonder if the barrel needs to warm up because I don't start hitting where I'm aiming until about the 4th or 5th shot.

I've got this 10/22 with a VQ barrel and trigger assembly. For some reason, the first shot and sometimes the 2nd and 3rd are just way off. After a couple of shots though, everything is fine and subsequent shots are right on the money. I'm shooting bulk CCI .22LR ammo and have a Sightron 3-9 mounted to the receiver. What's up with this?

I think it's supposed to be "good and easy". The T key is next to the Y key.

It definitely sounds like the shooter had a personal breakdown because he had a great future ahead of him and just gave up on it for this stupid stunt. Luckily, more people weren't killed or injured, but ABC (I think) reported that this is the worst mass shooting in US history. It makes sense that more people weren't killed or injured because this guy sounds like he was new to shooting, having bought all his weapons within 6 months. A movie theater is a small space and to me seems like a certain death trap when it's sold-out.

That sounds like something I'd like because I don't care for this safety much. Were you able to disassemble the bolt for cleaning any easier?

This is not a normal Mauser bolt assembly. The safety does not turn straight up. It turns only to 45 degrees up from the FIRE position. There are only two positions for this safety. It was not fully cocked in the pictures. What gregintenn stated seems to be the only way I've found to disassemble this bolt. I've asked on another forum and was told the same thing, but different method. Thanks guys. Rep points for you both.

I was wondering if manually cocking it was the route I'd have to take. So first I'd have to take out the screw and manually cock it before I unscrew it?

The rifle has a side mounted scope and it does not have the winter safety. I don't know if you can tell, but the bolt is three different colors which tells me it has had work done on it. There is also a tiny screw 180 degrees from where the safety knob is pointing in the second picture. I got this beauty at an estate sale so no one knows anything about it.

I know how to disassemble the Mauser bolt. What I'm having trouble with is disassembling the bolt on a Mauser sniper rifle. The safety does not turn 90 degrees or 180 compared to any other bolt. There is a scope above this bolt safety and it's been designed so that at 45 degrees or so, the safety is engaged. My problem is that when I try to remove the bolt from the action with the safety on, the safety cannot stay in that position. Does this makes sense? I hope I explained it well enough. Edit: I'm not sure this is a "mauser sniper" bolt. I didn't know what else to call it. After further looking on the internet I think what I have is some kind of custom aftermarket bolt (or something). The original owner is dead and cannot help me with my questions.

Let us know how it performs. Never heard of a 29" barrel on a .22. I'd like to know how standard velocity .22LR rounds fair through it.

I've never been there, but I've been to the one off Lovell in Knoxville, and it was not bad for as busy as they were. I've read some not-so-good things about them in the past and it's good to hear that maybe things have improved. We need more friendly and serviceable gun shops in TN.

I tried the alcohol and Qtip approach and it removed some dirt I couldn't even see before, but the glass is still a bit hazy. I guess it's just old glass or maybe something leaked inside the scope over time. Both scopes will do their job. I was just hoping for a clearer sight picture looking through them.

Thanks for the suggestion but it doesn't look any different than wiping them with a lens cloth. Is there a cleaning chemical on that lenspen? The scopes are both Glenfield 4x15. They belonged to my father and grandfather back in the day hunting soda cans.

I have two scopes from the 60s. When I look through them, it is a hazy picture. I have wiped them with a lens cloth but to no avail. How do I clean scope lenses? Should I take the scope apart? Use windex on the outside glass?

The gunsmith I talked to said it would run about $150. If my neighbor gets it fixed, I'll buy it from him for what he's asking.

The revolver's trigger and hammer are no longer connected, so no one will be shooting it until it can be fixed. Anyone know of a gunsmith off hand that works with something this old? I called an H&R warranty gunsmith and he said it'll cost 150, he doesn't like doing those kind of jobs, and that I should look for a local gunsmith.

Neighbor has a six-shot Harrington & Richardson .32 cal revolver, second model premier, 3rd variation. Apparently it was made in 1893 and shoots black powder ammo. Is that stuff still manufactured? Anyone know anything about these revolvers?
